Report: Liverpool to swoop for Ivorian “new Drogba” – taller than Peter Crouch

This time of year’s a funny one. You can’t decide whether to wear your coat or not; it’s not hot but it’s not cold. The shops are already urging you to start your Christmas shopping early. And the transfer rumour mill starts to grind, warming up for the bitter cold bite of January.

Today Liverpool are linked with a January transfer window move for Ivorian international striker Lacina Traore from Russian cash-strapped Anzhi Makhachkala.

The 6ft 8inch (yep he’s taller than former Red Peter Crouch) striker has been told he can find a new club in January, if the price is right.

He has previously been described as the “new Drogba” due to his prowess in front of goal and Ivorian roots.

Liverpool may hope defender Kolo Toure, who became the club’s first ever Ivorian player this summer, could persuade 23-year-old Traore to switch to Merseyside.

According to the Metro, Traore’s agent Dmitry Selyuk has said, “If a good offer arrives that suits us then Lacina is free to leave in January.

“The demand for him is huge in Russia and especially in Europe.”

The paper also suggests Anzhi will be looking to let Traore go for a fraction of the £15million they paid for him in July 2012, when he signed from Kuban Krasnodar.

The Daily Mail reports:

Traore has scored 13 goals in his last 27 games for Anzhi – while Rodgers has previously admitted he wants to sign another centre forward as the club continue to push for European football.

Traore has also been linked with a move to Arsenal, who played against Liverpool in the Europa League last season.

It would be a strange signing for Liverpool to make, however, as Traore’s style of football is not something that would currently fit into the Reds’ system.

However, with Fabio Borini out on loan at Sunderland this season, Liverpool may well be looking to bring in a backup striker to Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge come January.

Meanwhile, the Daily Express say Liverpool are amongst a number of Premier League club monitoring the availability of Alexander Milosevic.

Milosevic’s contract at AIK expires next summer, but Fulham, Arsenal and Tottenham are all thought to be interested in the 21-year-old Swedish centre-back.
