With Liverpool edging nearer to two post-Christmas tricky trips to Manchester City and Chelsea, they will be looking to take maximum points against Cardiff in their final home game of 2013 on Saturday.
Liverpool vs Cardiff City
Saturday, 21st December 2013; 12.45pm kick-off
Premier League
Anfield
After Liverpool’s superb performance to beat Tottenham 5-0 last Sunday, they can go top of the Premier League with a win against the visitors from South Wales.
Brendan Rodgers‘ side will feel confident, too, having scored 14 goals in their last three games. Furthermore, Liverpool have scored 20 goals in their last five home games.
If Luis Suarez is on form again, there could be more goals to come in this lunchtime kick-off. It’s 3.60 for there to be over 4.5 goals.
The opposition
The last time these two sides met at Anfield was on Halloween in 2007 in a League Cup tie in which the Reds ran out 2-1 winners.
Cardiff fan Elliott Cantor, pictured here, found himself with a ticket in the Lower Centenary and decided it would be a good idea to dress up as The Flash. Cue a lot of puzzled looks from the Lower Centenary faithful:
Cardiff City are under all sorts of problems, with chairman Vincent Tan this week telling manager Malky Mackay to resign, or face being sacked.
The Premier League newcomers currently sit 15th in the table, four points above the relegation zone.
They come to Anfield off the back of a 1-0 victory over West Brom at home, but that was after losing at Crystal Palace, drawing with Stoke City and losing heavily, 3-0 at home to Arsenal.
The Bluebirds have few injury worries, except for a late fitness test on former Liverpool forward Craig Bellamy to determine whether he will be fit for the matchday squad.
Team news
Liverpool continue to be without the injured Steven Gerrard, Daniel Sturridge and Jose Enrique.
Rodgers is likely to keep the same starting line-up that swept aside Spurs at White Hart Lane last weekend, with Mamadou Sakho and Martin Skrtel’s central defensive partnership looking more permanent by the game.
Rodgers will also have one eye on Boxing Day’s clash against Manchester City and the final game of 2013 at Chelsea.
