Liverpool’s tough run of fixtures to end 2013 starts here with a trip to North London on Sunday and fellow Champions League place chasers, Tottenham.
Tottenham vs Liverpool
Sunday, 15th December 2013; 4pm kick-off
Premier League
White Hart Lane
Liverpool bounced back from defeat in their last away match at Hull City by scoring nine goals in two games at Anfield and sweeping aside Norwich City and West Ham.
The Reds now find themselves just five points behind league leaders Arsenal, but with Tottenham, Cardiff, Manchester City and Chelsea still to play before the turn of the year.
Luis Suarez is in fine form and will be hoping to add to the 15 goals he’s scored in just 10 league starts this season.
With so much at stake for both teams, we’re expecting this to be a nervous encounter. It’s 3.75 for there to be under 1.5 goals.
The opposition
Tottenham’s start to the season has been inconsistent, but Spurs are fresh from back-to-back league victories away at Fulham and Sunderland.
Liverpool will be hoping Andre Villas-Boas’ men are tired from their Europa League game at home to Anzhi Makhachkala on Thursday night.
Tottenham have injury doubts over Vlad Chiriches (knee), Younes Kaboul (quad) and Jan Vertonghen (ankle), but Christian Eriksen and Danny Rose should be fit to start.
Spurs have scored just fifteen goals this season – the same as Suarez alone – whilst Liverpool have netted 34 times.
The home side go into this game sitting sixth in the Premier League, three points behind Liverpool in second.
Team news
Liverpool start their tough run of festive games without captain Steven Gerrard, who will most likely be sidelined until January after picking up a hamstring injury in last Saturday’s 4-1 win over West Ham.
Jordan Henderson should be fit after suffering a late injury against the Hammers, whilst Daniel Agger returns to contention and could replace Mamadou Sakho in defence.
Raheem Sterling will be hoping his better performance against West Ham has allowed him to keep his place in midfield, whilst Joe Allen and Lucas Leiva should be the Reds’ starting midfield pair.
