Brendan Rodgers have provided an injury update on the recovery of Steven Gerrard, expecting him to be out for around four weeks.
The Liverpool captain hobbled off during the second half of Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over West Ham last Saturday clutching his hamstring.
Speaking to the club’s official website on Thursday night, Rodgers confirmed, “Steven is, as reported, probably going to be up to about four weeks or so.
“So he’ll go through an extensive treatment programme over the next numbers of weeks and hopefully we can get him back that little bit sooner.
“But certainly at this stage, it was a four to six-week injury and we’ll see how we look with that.”
The news come to a blow for Liverpool, who will be without the England international midfielder for some difficult fixtures over the next week weeks.
The Reds have to face Cardiff City at home and then travel to Manchester City and Chelsea before the end of the year, after this weekend’s Premier League encounter with Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
Ahead of this Sunday’s clash in North London, Rodgers indicated that he expects to have Jordan Henderson available, despite the bad challenge on him during the win over the Hammers from Kevin Nolan.
“Jordan trained so he’s fine,” he added. “It was just precautionary the last few days.
“It was a bad challenge that was made on him, but thankfully he’s okay. But we’ll see how he is tomorrow as well.”
