Liverpool have, according to a report, registered their interest in Southampton duo Luke Shaw and Jay Rodriguez.

The Telegraph‘s Matt Law writes that Liverpool, along with Tottenham and Man United, have “asked to be kept informed about the situation” regarding highly-rated left-back Shaw, following the departure of Saints chairman Nicola Cortese this week.

Cortese quit the club on Wednesday night and his departure has lead to much speculation surrounding the south coast club and it’s star players.

Liverpool have been linked with forward Rodriguez before, reportedly showing interest in the summer while Luis Suarez‘s situation was uncertain.

While midfielder Adam Lallana was speculatively linked with a move to Anfield in November too.

18-year-old Shaw would be one player most supporters would like to see Liverpool sign to finally provide a solution to the long-term problem area at left-back. He is without his fair share of suitors though with all of the top English sides interested – with only Chelsea and Man City likely to pay the reported £20 million fee.

Liverpool registering their interest in Shaw is, if you care to take the cynical view, like saying they want to win a football match – pretty obvious.

On Rodriguez, the 24-year-old English forward, Law explains that his contractual situation is currently in limbo, explaining that “Rodriguez has two years remaining on his contract, which is worth around £25,000 a week, but his impressive performances have attracted admiring glances from Liverpool and Arsenal.”
