Basel winger Mohamed Salah will fly in for a medical at Melwood on Thursday to complete a £10 million switch to Liverpool, according to a report.
Salah has been the subject of reports linking him with a move to Merseyside for some time, and with just eight days left of the January transfer window, the Reds may be hoping to push through a deal switftly.
According to English-lanaguge Egyptian football website, King Tut, which been the source of several accurate stories on the Salah to Liverpool speculation before, Salah should be unveiled as a Liverpool player by next week.
The website writes:
Two days ago, Newcastle United were also reportedly considering to hijack the Salah deal from Liverpool. However, according to a KingFut.com source close to the player, the Egyptian winger is expected at Melwood tomorrow as a £10million fee has been agreed between Liverpool and the Swiss champions.
On Wednesday afternoon, odds of Salah joining Liverpool dropped to 1/6 with several bookmakers.
Earlier this week, several major media outlets revealed Liverpool were “ready to make a bid” for the 21-year-old.
Salah would be the first Egyptian to play for Liverpool should he complete a move from the Swiss champions.
This Is Anfield’s Henry Jackson brought us a scouting report on Salah earlier this month, and described how he would fit into Brendan Rodgers‘ team. He wrote:
The African is probably at his most natural in the ‘inverted winger’ position on the right- the term given for playing on the opposite side to your stronger foot, like Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery – drifting inside onto his wand of a left foot.
Liverpool this week learned of the extent of Lucas Leiva’s latest injury setback, which may force their hand into looking for a central defensive midfielder before the transfer window closes on January 31st.
