After demolishing Arsenal 5-1 at Anfield on Saturday, Liverpool are looking to maintain momentum with a mid-week trip to Fulham.
Fulham vs Liverpool
Wednesday, 12th February 2014; 8pm kick-off
Premier League
Craven Cottage
The Reds well and truly sent out a statement by beating the then league leaders so impressively at the weekend and a win in West London on Wednesday night could narrow the gap on third placed Manchester City to just one point.
City, however, are at home to Sunderland, whilst Arsenal play lowly Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium. Everton, who sit five points behind Liverpool in the table are at home to Crystal Palace, whilst Tottenham – three points behind Liverpool – are at Newcastle Utd.
It’s a big night for the Premier League and Brendan Rodgers‘ men will be looking for maximum points ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup fifth round tie at Arsenal.
The opposition
Fulham looked exhausted at the end of their gruelling 2-2 draw with Man Utd on Sunday afternoon. A late Darren Bent header rescued a point for the visitors at Old Trafford.
However, the Cottagers are rooted to the bottom of the league and things aren’t looking easy for new boss RenĂ© Meulensteen and his squad.
On paper, therefore, Liverpool should really with Wednesday night’s game at the Cottage comfortably, but football’s a funny old game.
Fulham are likely to be without new record signing Kostas Mitroglou, who has a knee problem, whilst Fernando Amorebieta also misses out.
Liverpool ran out 3-1 winners in this fixture last season thanks to a Daniel Sturridge hat-trick.
Team news
Liverpool have confidence running through their veins after recent home wins over Everton and Arsenal. But they sandwiched a rather lacklustre 1-1 draw at West Brom and Rodgers will be hoping for better fortunes on the road against Fulham.
Daniel Agger and Glen Johnson are close to returning to the team, but are likely to miss this game, whilst Joe Enrique and Mamadou Sakho remain sidelined, as does Lucas Leiva.
TV coverage
There is no live television coverage of this game in the UK. However, there are highlights on BBC One’s Match of the Day from 10.40pm.
