Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says Steven Gerrard's crucial slip at Anfield on Sunday was unlucky and could have happened to any player.
The Liverpool skipper fell over in the first-half of the crucial Premier League encounter against Chelsea, giving Demba Ba the opportunity to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
Chelsea went on to win 2-0 after Willian doubled their lead late on, dealing a significant blow to Liverpool's title chances.
The bookmakers now make Manchester City favourites as their superior goal difference means victories in their last three games should be enough to clinch the title on goal difference, even if Liverpool finish with a pair of wins.
However, Rodgers says there is no question of attaching any blame to Gerrard for the damaging loss to Chelsea, pointing out that Liverpool might not even be in the hunt for top spot without the England captain.
"He has picked up this club so many times and we are in this position because of him," said Rodgers.
"There's certainly no blame.
"It's really unfortunate that he slipped at a crucial time, it could have happened to anyone."
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho had sympathy for Gerrard and said: "Nobody enjoys it when someone makes a big mistake."
