Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has insisted there will be no repeat of last summer’s transfer saga involving Luis Suarez.
The balmy summer nights of June, July and August were dampened by a long, drawn out, relentless transfer speculation regarding the Uruguay international.
It culminated last August when Suarez tried to force his way out of Liverpool in search of a club with Champions League football.
However, try as he might, Liverpool’s owner John Henry put his foot down and Suarez remained at Anfield, where he has matured and blossomed further as a footballer ever since.
After a stunning season for the Reds, in which the 27-year-old was recently named PFA Player of the Year, more transfer speculation is no doubt about to ensue.
He has already been linked with a move to Real Madrid, but Rodgers has played down any repeat of last year’s drama, insisting Suarez is happy at Liverpool.
“The last conversation I had with Luis we spoke a lot and I know he is very happy here,” Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo .
“He has had a marvellous season,. He has picked up all the awards – ones that were very important to him from his peers.
“He’s contributed massively to our success this season and he is happy in the Premier League.
“He has turned a corner in terms of how he’s perceived in England.
“Of course in football you can’t promise anything but I am confident Luis will be a big part of the future here.”
Rodgers also added that he now can’t see a reason for any player to walk out on Liverpool, after a phenomenal season for the club and famous European nights returning to Anfield next season.
There has, however, been much transfer gossip involving Liverpool’s potential transfer targets, so check out our Rumour Mill for more.
