Liverpool are locked in talks with Glen Johnson over a new contract, with the two parties “yet to reach an agreement” according to The Guardian.

Johnson has one year left to run on his current deal and earns between £110,000 and £120,000 per week depending on reports.

According to Andy Hunter of The Guardian , Liverpool are offering the England international an extra year to take his deal to 2016, but Johnson is looking for a longer commitment.

The England international turns 30 in August, but Hunter reports that Brendan Rodgers has no plans to sell the full-back this summer:

Rodgers is not planning to offload Johnson this summer in the event of the contract remaining unsigned, with additions in central defence and left-back a greater priority.

In March, Rodgers revealed that getting a new contract sorted for Johnson would be a priority for the club.

He told the Liverpool Echo at the time, “We want to keep Glen here.

“There is no question about that, especially now he’s in this form. He’s 29 and we feel that he has still got good years ahead of him.

“No contracts will be looked at until the summer but his will be a priority for us, especially if he continues in the form that he’s in.”

Johnson has also expressed his desire to stay at Anfield, where he has been a first-team regular since signing from Portsmouth in 2009.

But it seems the club and Johnson differ on their desires for the length of the new deal.

If you were pulling the strings, how long a new contract, if any, would you offer Johnson? Let us know in the comments below.
