Liverpool attacker Philippe Coutinho says he has not given up hope of being called up to Brazil’s World Cup squad this summer, but admits it’s a “complicated” situation.

Coutinho has played a major part in Liverpool’s success this season, recovering from an early season slip in form to become a very important part of Brendan Rodgers‘ first-team.

The 21-year-old has scored five goals in 31 Premier League appearances this season, and created 64 goalscoring chances for his teammates, according to Squawka.

Coutinho was asked by Placar as to why he thought he had not been selected for his country since making his debut in 2010.

“It’s a complicated question,” Coutinho said, with quotes translated by ESPN. “Every coach has his favourites and [Luiz Felipe] Scolari is no different.

“I still dream about it [the World Cup] and I’m working hard to prove I deserve my chance, but I know there’s a lot of tough competition.”

Coutinho also spoke of his time at Liverpool so far — a very positive and settled experience so far.

“The atmosphere here is fantastic,” he added. “The players here welcomed me and that was essential in terms of speeding up my adaptation. Also, I think the playing style here suits me.”

Coutinho signed for Liverpool from Inter Milan in January 2013. He has since become a permanent name on the first-team team-sheet, making 48 appearances and scoring eight times.
