Liverpool on the verge of completing a £4 million move for Southampton striker Ricky Lambert after the England international passed his medical on Merseyside on Saturday.
Lambert was an unused substitute in England’s 3-0 win over Peru at Wembley last night and made the journey to Liverpool at full-time.
He underwent a medical at the Spire Liverpool hospital on Saturday morning, overseen by the club’s doctor Zaf Iqbal.
Several media outlets are reporting on Saturday afternoon that Lambert successfully passed his medical and has since agreed personal terms at Melwood.
Having left Liverpool’s youth ranks at the age of 15, Kirkby-born Lambert will complete a dream return this weekend.
In between, he has played for Blackpool, Macclesfield Town, Stockport County, Rochdale, Bristol Rovers, before moving to Southampton in 2009.
Lambert will now fly out with the England World Cup squad for pre-tournament friendlies against Ecuador and Honduras, before it all kicks off in Brazil on Thursday, 12th June.
England’s first game sees them face Italy on Saturday 14th June. Kick-off is 11pm BST.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s bid to sign Saints midfielder Adam Lallana has hit problems, according to BBC Sport’s Ben Smith:
