Liverpool have today suffered differing fortunes regarding two of their biggest transfer targets this summer, with one move reportedly off and another picking up pace.

Moreno
Liverpool’s chances of signing highly-rated Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno appear to be over, according to the sporting director of the Spanish club.
Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo released the following statement regarding the 21-year-old, saying that the two clubs could not agree terms with the Spanish international.
“The matter of Alberto is practically settled. We couldn’t reach an agreement and I don’t think it can be revived.
“It was a great offer, but the player is only 21 years old and it’s possible that the catharsis of being with the national team had a positive effect.”
Should the Moreno deal not go through, which evidently seems highly unlikely now, the club are likely to turn their attentions to either Ricardo Rodriguez or Marcos Rojo, who have both impressed so far at the World Cup, for Switzerland and Argentina respectively.
Shaqiri
On a more positive note for Reds fans, their chances of signing talented winger Xherdan Shaqiri appear to be in the final stages, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
Di Marzio has reported that, despite interest from Milan and Roma, the Swiss star’s agent, who is also his brother, is currently in England finalising a deal for the 22-year-old.
The Bayern Munich winger has been one of Liverpool’s primary transfer targets for a number of weeks now, and his hat-trick for Switzerland against Honduras in Wednesday’s World Cup clash perfectly highlighted his quality.
Acquiring his signature would be a strong statement of intent by Liverpool, and with another flying winger, Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez, also hotly tipped to be in a Reds shirt next season, it’s shaping up to be a fascinating summer for all involved with the club.
