Liverpool are prepared to splash out £8 million to sign Loic Remy from QPR, but have told the French striker to lower his wage demands, according to reports on Friday.

Remy has been consistently linked with a move to Anfield this summer as Brendan Rodgers looks to further increase his attacking options for a two-pronged assault on the Premier League and Champions League crowns.

Remy is contracted to QPR, but spent 2013-14 on-loan at Newcastle Utd, scoring 14 goals in 26 appearances for the Magpies.

His prolific record, as well as him creating 30 goalscoring chances for teammates according to Squawka, hasn’t gone unnoticed by Rodgers, who is looking to reshape his attack following Luis Suarez‘s departure to Barcelona.

Just this week Rodgers confirmed that he is looking to bring in more players who can add goals to the team.

However, it seems Remy’s high wage demands are a stumbling block for the transfer to go through, with David Anderson and Darren Lewis of the Daily Mirror writing:

The Reds have spoken to QPR and the France World Cup striker has an £8million escape clause in his contract at Loftus Road for Champions League clubs.

However Liverpool have been put off by Remy’s personal terms and it is understood he is demanding between £80-90,000-a-week.

The 27-year-old would likely be signed as a back-up striker to Daniel Sturridge, which may pave the way for Fabio Borini to leave Anfield permanently after a successful season on-loan to Sunderland.

In a scouting report for This Is Anfield last week, Henry Jackson concluded of Remy:

The 27-year-old does blow hot and cold, however, and it would be down to Rodgers to fine-tune Remy’s game and turn him into the top class, consistently excellent player his talent threatens.

Perhaps if Remy were five years younger a move would make sense, but at 27 and given his reported wages at QPR, it’s unlikely he fits the type of player FSG would like to sign at Anfield.
