Liverpool defender Kolo Toure has warned Everton that they will not repeat the mistakes they made against Middlesbrough on Tuesday.
The Reds needed a penalty shootout to get the better of the Championship club in the third round of the Capital One Cup.
Brendan Rodgers’ side conceded twice in normal time to play out a 2-2 draw, before winning the shootout 14-13.
Liverpool will now take on Everton in the Merseyside derby in the Premier League on Saturday.
Toure insists that he and his team-mates have learned from their mistakes against Middlesbrough and will be more prepared against the Toffees at Anfield.
“We will learn from our mistakes and prepare for what we know will be a tough game,” the centre-back told the Liverpool Echo.
“We beat them 4-0 here last season and I am sure they will know we are really quick going forward.
“I think it will be a tight game but we’re at home and we’ll look to go out fast. We know winning this one would make a big difference.
“There’s a lot riding on it and we need the three points. We can’t think about any other games coming up, we need to focus on Everton and give everything to this game.”
However, Toure admits that winning against Everton will not be easy and says that they should not lose focus because of next week’s Champions League commitment.
“It’s going to be a tough game against Everton but we will give our all again and we’re confident,” said the 33-year-old.
“We’ll focus on that one and try to do as well we did against them here last season.
“Both teams are back in Europe and that can take a lot out of you because you play against tough teams and you can lose a bit of focus on the Premier League.”
