Raheem Sterling: Has started the season superbly for Liverpool

Hull City, Aston Villa, Stoke City, Chelsea, Southampton, Swansea City and Liverpool all have players in our Team of the Month for August.

Every Monday or Tuesday we look back at the weekend's Premier League aciton to pick a perfect XI from that particular round of games.

This season, we will be keeping a tally of all the players to get the nod in order to help us pick nine Teams of the Month before eventually naming our Team of the Season in May.

TEAMtalk's Team of the Month, August (4-2-3-1): McGregor, Hutton, Vlaar, Shawcross, Azpilicueta; Schneiderlin, Fabregas; Dyer, Sterling, Sigurdsson; Costa.

Allan McGregor - Hull City

Hull have had something of a mixed start, winning 1-0 at QPR on the opening day before drawing 1-1 against Stoke with 10 men and then suffering a 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa.

McGregor more than played his part in the success at Loftus Road, was named in our Team of the Week after helping the Tigers to a draw against Stoke, and then helped keep the score down against a rampant Villa side at the weekend.

Alan Hutton - Aston Villa

Not much was expected of Villa this season, with Hutton's return to the first-team fold an apparent sign of a club in crisis.

The Scot has impressed in all three of his Premier League appearances, however, to help Villa to two clean sheets and seven points from nine.

Ron Vlaar - Aston Villa

Vlaar was perhaps the one member of the Villans backline that fans did have any confidence in going into the new season, and the Dutchman has not disappointed.

Even the much-maligned Philippe Senderos has looked solid alongside the captain's calming influence.

Ryan Shawcross - Stoke City

Shawcross scored Stoke's equaliser in their 1-1 draw at Hull on the second weekend but it was his exceptional performance in their surprise win at Manchester City that gets him the nod.

The 26-year-old has made a Premier League-high 38 clearances already, has won eight tackles yet given away only one free-kick, and is yet to be dribbled past.

Cesar Azpilicueta

The only player in this XI not to have been named in any of our Teams of the Week so far, Azpilicueta's consistency - and a lack of it from others - earns him a place alongside August's finest.

The Spaniard has made the left-back slot his own now at Chelsea and was particularly impressive in the 2-0 win over Leicester in which he showed off his qualities at both ends of the pitch.

Morgan Schneiderlin - Southampton

With the likes of Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana moving on, Schneiderlin's importance to Southampton has become bigger than ever this season - it will have been a huge relief to everyone associated with the south coast club that the window has closed with him still at St Mary's.

Speculation over the Frenchman's future could easily have affected his performances, but two goals in Saturday's impressive win at West Ham proved he remains as committed as ever.

Cesc Fabregas - Chelsea

Back in the Premier League after three years at Barcelona, Fabregas has been the outstanding player of the first three weeks of the new season.

The Spaniard has completed more passes than any of his Chelsea team-mates in all three of his appearances for the Blues so far, has set up an impressive 10 goalscoring chances for team-mates, and already has a Premier League joint-high four assists to his name.

Nathan Dyer - Swansea City

With three wins from three, including an opening-day victory at Manchester United, Swansea have undoubtedly been the stand-out team of the Premier League to date.

Having scored the only goal of the game against Burnley and then grabbing a brace in Saturday's 3-0 stroll against West Brom, Dyer has certainly been enjoying himself in a confident side.

Raheem Sterling - Liverpool

Alongside Fabregas, Sterling is the only player in the XI to have made two of the three Teams of the Week so far this season.

The young England forward scored one and set up the other in Liverpool's opening-weekend win over Southampton and then, after a quiet night against an in-form Manchester City, tore Tottenham to shreds in the 3-0 win at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

Gylfi Sigurdsson - Swansea City

While Dyer has caught the eye with three goals, Sigurdsson sits alongside Fabregas with a league-high four assists already and, unlike the Spaniard, has a goal to his name, too.

In other words, Swansea have only scored one goal this season that their former loan star has not scored or directly assisted. He has undoubtedly played a bigger role than any other player in their fine start.

Diego Costa - Chelsea

Many doubted whether Costa would hit the ground running at Chelsea, particularly after a disappointing World Cup campaign, but Spain international has quickly silenced his doubters with four goals from his first three games.

His brace against Everton in particular proved exactly why Jose Mourinho splashed the cash on him over the summer - he is as clinical as they come.
