Late goals from Mario Balotelli and Dejan Lovren saw Liverpool edge past Swansea and into the League Cup quarter-finals. Henry Jackson rates each Reds star on the night.
BRAD JONES- 6 (out of 10)
The Australian had very little to do all night, but did look more assured than in the past. He could do nothing about Marvin Emnes’ terrific strike.
Vote Jones as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
JAVIER MANQUILLO- 7
The 20-year-old got forward well throughout, and although his final ball wasn’t always the best, he was one of the Reds’ better players. Very solid defensively too.
Vote Manquillo as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
KOLO TOURE- 6
There is always a feeling that an error is just around the corner with Toure these days, but in fairness, he was reliable all night.
Vote Toure as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
DEJAN LOVREN- 6.5
The 25-year-old was relatively untroubled at the back from start to finish, and his last-gasp winner will give him a huge amount of confidence.
Vote Lovren as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
GLEN JOHNSON- 6.5
Johnson can often look happier at left-back for some reason, and he produced a decent display against Garry Monk’s side. The 30-year-old got forward well throughout and defended better than usual.
Vote Johnson as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
LUCAS LEIVA- 6
A typical Lucas performance, consisting of understated defensive work but a lack of inventiveness on the ball. Still not the player he once was.
Vote Leiva as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
The 24-year-old had one of his quieter games of the season so far, on a night when he captained Liverpool. He struggled to stamp his authority on proceedings, but his effort could not be questioned at any point.
Vote Henderson as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
PHILIPPE COUTINHO- 7.5
The Brazilian once again looked the Reds’ most creative attacking threat, and he has to start against Newcastle on Saturday. The 22-year-old produced an excellent set-piece delivery for Lovren’s winner, and was the star on the night.
Vote Coutinho as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
LAZAR MARKOVIC- 5
Markovic looks horribly lacking in confidence at the moment, and he was comfortably Liverpool’s least effective player on the night. It’s early days still, but his form is worrying.
Vote Markovic as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
FABIO BORINI- 7
Whether or not the Italian is good enough for Liverpool remains questionable, but he put in a good display. The 23-year-old had the Reds’ two best efforts on goal in the first-half, and his fabulous cross allowed Mario Balotelli to equalise late on.
Vote Borini as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
RICKIE LAMBERT- 5
Like Markovic, the 32-year-old is really struggling at the moment. His movement and general sharpness was lacking all evening, and the game changed when he was replaced by Balotelli.
Vote Lambert as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
Substitutes
ADAM LALLANA (on for Markovic 70)- 5.5
The 26-year-old was quiet when introduced, but did add a little more than Markovic.
Vote Lallana as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
MARIO BALOTELLI (on for Lambert 79)- 6.5
The Italian added a spark lacking in Liverpool’s play, and equalised with a clinical finish. He was still guilty of shooting selfishly into the Kop a number of times though.
