Liverpool edged past AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup third round on Monday evening, and we assess each Reds player on the night.
SIMON MIGNOLET (out of 10)- 5
Despite making a couple of decent saves, Mignolet once again had a night to forget. His woeful attempt to clear a corner led to Wimbledon’s equaliser, and there were a couple of other shaky moments too.

EMRE CAN- 6
The 20-year-old didn’t always look totally assured at the back, but all in all he had a solid evening. He continues to look an exciting talent and this is a key learning curve for him.
Vote Can as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
MARTIN SKRTEL- 6.5
The Slovakian has been much-maligned at times this season, but he had a pretty good evening against a very physical Ade Akinfenwa. He was more dominant aerially than of late, although did miss one header which almost proved key in the first half.
Vote Skrtel as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
The Frenchman was pretty impeccable all evening long, using the ball excellently, reading the game well and winning plenty in the air. The France international is becoming a key player for Liverpool and is quite clearly the club’s best defender.
Vote Sakho as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
JAVIER MANQUILLO- 6
The young Spaniard showed plenty of endeavour, especially as he was struggling with an ankle injury throughout. He produced a good cross for Gerrard’s opener, but his decision making was poor at times.
Vote Manquillo as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
LUCAS LEIVA- 6.5
The 27-year-old kept it simple all evening, and provided a good defensive shield in front of the defence. He lost the ball a few times, but was also a bit more expansive with his passing.
Vote Leiva as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
The soon-to-be Reds captain had an impressive evening, showing wonderful energy and using the ball intelligently from start to finish. He has to be starting games in the middle of the park.
Vote Henderson as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
LAZAR MARKOVIC- 7
Markovic had a good game, showing great pace and drive on a number of occasions. He almost scored in the first-half, but just missed the target, and should have made it 3-1 late on. Promising though and certainly growing into life at Liverpool.
Vote Markovic as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
STEVEN GERRARD- 7.5
It just had to be Gerrard who was the star man, didn’t it? The skipper was the difference between the two sides, and showed just how influential he can still be. He made errors in possession, but his two goals were brilliantly taken – that’s four goals in two games for the captain!
Vote Gerrard as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
PHILIPPE COUTINHO- 6.5
The 22-year-old was guilty of trying to do too much at times, but he was a constant threat and oozed quality on the ball. The Brazilian will play better this season, but he did pretty well.
Vote Coutinho as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
RICKIE LAMBERT- 4.5
The 32-year-old was extremely poor throughout, despite playing a part in Gerrard’s first goal. He offered no movement, his touch was woeful and he looked overweight. Really poor display, and it was obvious he hadn’t played much of late.
Vote Lambert as your Man of the Match on Twitter:
Substitutes
JOSE ENRIQUE (on for Javier Manquillo 71)- 5.5
The Spaniard put one shocking cross into the crowd, but did offer some attacking thrust when he came on.
MARIO BALOTELLI (on for Lambert 79)- 6
The 24-year-old did far more in 11 minutes than Lambert did in 79, showing more pace and goal threat. He wasn’t on long enough to make a proper impact though.
KOLO TOURE (on for Markovic 87)- n/a
Late cameo only.
