After impressing last season, Jon Flanagan has been sidelined with a knee injury for the whole of the current campaign, but he has finally returned to light training this month.
The 22-year-old has been struggling with the injury since pre-season and after a rest period it was decided in September he required surgery to remove fluid from his knee.
Brendan Rodgers said the England full-back was expected to be out for “a few months” at the time.
Rodgers has now provided an update when asked in an interview with radio station talkSPORT on Monday morning.
“It’s been difficult for Jon,” said the boss. “Last season he was absolutely superb and it’s just unfortunate that he’s picked up this injury [in the summer].
“[He’ll be] a little while out. We’re hoping that in the near future he’s going to be back fit and playing because he’s a very important young player for us.”
No timeline was set on Flanagan’s return but Liverpool fans will be hoping he can return soon and boost the squad in the latter stages of the season.
