Jordan Henderson, who will take over the Liverpool captaincy from Steven Gerrard in the summer, has been in discussions over an extension to his existing contract, which is due to expire in the summer of 2016.
It is understood the implications of his new, higher-profile role with more responsibility will not complicate those talks and an improved deal is likely to be signed in the next month.
There is a similar timeframe in place for Raheem Sterling to put pen to paper on a vastly-enhanced contract to reflect his growing significance to the side.
In terms of the club’s activity in the January window, Brendan Rodgers has already said there will be little if no business done.
Reports have suggested the club have revived their interest in Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaquiri but it is understood he is not a realistic target in the current window and neither is West Brom’s Saido Berahino.
meanwhile, Press Association Sport understands a deal to take Gerrard to Major League Soccer at the end of this season is now close to completion. However, contrary to reports Gerrard has not been given leave to travel to the United States to finalise the move and has not flown to America as all the necessary requirements associated with the deal have been done in this country.
