Club Brugge goalkeeper Mat Ryan has been linked with a summer move to Liverpool, as the club look to replace Simon Mignolet.
Both the Guardian and Chris Bascombe of the Telegraph , both normally reliable sources of transfer news, reported that the Reds were interested in signing the Australian on Tuesday evening.
Bascombe claims that Brendan Rodgers is seemingly not interested in bringing the highly-rated 22-year-old to Anfield this month, or anyone according to the Mirror , but that a move for him at the end of the season is possible.
Liverpool’s goalkeeping situation is badly in need of addressing, with Mignolet and Brad Jones a consistent weak-link in a side that is improving by the week in other areas of the pitch.
Not bringing in a new ‘keeper in January is certainly a risk, as Rodgers’ men look to tackle three cup competitions and a top-four finish, and it looks as though we will soon find out whether the gamble paid off or not.
Ryan is Australia’s first-choice goalkeeper, and impressed greatly at last summer’s World Cup. He is currently taking part in the Asia Cup in his homeland, where the Socceroos have reached the quarter-finals.
