Liverpool will not be signing a long-term replacement for Simon Mignolet this January, but are seeking an experienced goalkeeper on a short-term deal this month, according to The Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce.
Liverpool’s goalkeeper situation has bordered on farcical this season, with Mignolet having been dropped “indefinitely” last month, only for Brad Jones to pick up an injury against Burnley on Boxing Day, meaning Mignolet made his return.
Pearce writes in The Echo on Friday “Liverpool may bring in an experienced goalkeeper on a short-term basis to compete with the under-pressure Simon Mignolet. ”
But, the club’s search for a long-term No.1 will wait until the summer.
We wrote earlier how Barcelona’s Marc Andre ter-Stegen could be one option for the Reds this January – although he isn’t “experienced”.
The best option would, of course, be Chelsea’s Petr Cech but that appears unlikely – especially since Chelsea allowed Mark Schwarzer to join Leicester City last week.
