Rumours emerged on Sunday evening claiming Liverpool’s on-loan stiker Divock Origi will stay at Lille until the end of the season, having been linked with a January return to Anfield.
According to Paul Joyce of the Express , normally a reliable source of transfer-related news, the highly-rated young Belgian will stay with the Ligue 1 club until the summer. Brendan Rodgers is seemingly not requiring him to return to Merseyside this month. The always reliable Tony Barrett of The Times also took to twitter to confirm the news this morning.
With Daniel Sturridge close to a return from injury and Mario Balotelli set to stay for the time being – Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert’s goals against Aston Villa also outlined the depth in attack – Origi would likely just sit on the substitutes’ bench, which is of no benefit to either party.
Rodgers’ decision to bring back Jordon Ibe from his loan spell at Derby also seems to indicate that Origi will only come back in the summer.
After a promising start to life in France, the 19-year-old’s form has tailed off alarmingly, scoring just four times in 26 appearances.
Despite this, he is a huge prospect, with Belgium captain Vincent Kompany claiming he will one day become one of the world’s best strikers.
