Rumours on Thursday evening emerged over a possible deal to bring Burnley striker Danny Ings to Liverpool in the summer.

Chris Bascombe of The Telegraph reports that the Reds have joined the race for the in-form 22-year-old’s signature.

It is believed the Brendan Rodgers is hopeful of securing the services of the Burnley and England Under-21 striker before Monday’s Transfer Deadline Day, in a move that would allow him to return to Turf Moor until the end of the season.

The Independent ‘s Ian Herbert writes:

Sources in Lancashire suggest that Liverpool’s willingness to wait until the summer before taking the 22-year-old is tempting, because the club know that if they wait until then to strike a deal then they will be secure a minimal fee. If Burnley wait until then, they would be paid only training compensation for the player – likely to be around £3m-£5m. It is unclear what price Liverpool are offering, though a deal closer to £10m would seem realistic.

Andy Hunter of The Guardian says Ings is much-valued at Turf Moor and an immediate transfer would not be possible for Liverpool:

Dyche will not countenance the immediate departure of Ings, with his team 17th in the table and reliant on the striker’s goals to remain in the top flight. Burnley have also struggled to add to their squad this month, with Dundee United rejecting a bid for the midfielder Stuart Armstrong.

Ings’ current deal with the Clarets expires this summer, and it would surely suit the Premier League strugglers to get a little more money for their star man now, rather than at a reduced price when his contract runs out.

The former Bournemouth striker has scored seven goals in his 19 league appearances in 2014/15- an impressive ratio considering he is playing for a relegation-threatened side- and he scored 26 in just 45 matches in the Championship last season.

There are reportedly a host of other clubs interested in signing Ings, including David Moyes’ Real Sociedad, and his performances have led to some calling for him to be promoted to the England senior team.

With Fabio Borini, Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli all flattering to deceive greatly for Liverpool this season, and Daniel Sturridge‘s injury problems a huge loss to the team, added firepower is certainly needed in attack.

It seems highly unlikely that Ings would actually move to Merseyside in this transfer window, but a summer deal would put the aforementioned trios Reds futures in doubt.
