Liverpool fans have taken to social media with feelings of frustration after Bolton held the Reds to a 0-0 draw in their FA Cup 4th Round tie at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
A Liverpool starting XI with five changes from the side that drew 1-1 with Chelsea on Wednesday night struggled to break through an organised Bolton defence.
Prior to the match, Bolton had conceded just seven goals in their last 11 Championship games and Liverpool’s attack were certainly tested by that form.
The second-half introductions of Lazar Markovic, Lucas Leiva and Fabio Borini brought with them increased urgency, but the Bolton continued to make it hard for Liverpool to break through.
Fabio Borini brought out a fine save from Adam Bogdan before flashing a late header wide, whilst Jordan Henderson had a penalty appeal waved away by referee Kevin Friend.
Far from a poor performance, Liverpool were held by a battling Bolton side — but the extra game of a replay at the Macron Stadium in the week beginning 2nd February will come as a blow to Brendan Rodgers.
We’ve rounded up a selection of reactions from Liverpool fans on Twitter and the This Is Anfield Forums . Let us know your post-match thoughts in the comments section below.
Incognito in the forums:
Decent performance. Bad finishing. Could be better in final third as well. Seems we’ll remain the same until Sturridge returns it seems.
RedLaw in the forums:
At least we’ll have Sturridge back for the return leg. Dream of winning this for Stevie very much still on.
abcd\ in the forums:
Frustrating game. Performance was mixed but Sturridge can’t come back soon enough, the difference between the leagues should be the clinical edge but that was missing unfortunately. Could really do without the replay but anyway onwards to Chelsea and see what the draw shows up for the next round ahead of what will be a tough replay.
