Reports on Saturday night suggested up to four clubs would like to take Rickie Lambert on loan, prior to tomorrow’s Transfer Deadline Day.
According to the Mirror , via Tom Hopkinson in the Sunday People, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is considering letting Lambert join a club on loan for the remainder of the season, should an offer come in for him.
It is believed that Crystal Palace and Hull are two of those interested in acquiring the services of the 32-year-old, in order to avoid relegation to the Championship.
Lambert made a dream £4m move to Anfield from Southampton last summer, having been a fanatical Liverpool supporter since childhood, and many Reds fans were pleased with the deal.
Although it looked like a shrewd piece of business in many ways, the England international has endured something of a nightmare for Liverpool.
He has looked well short of what many expected of him when he joined, scoring just three times in 24 appearances, and there is an argument to say he has almost tried too hard at times. Either way he has been a failure.
Lambert does not want to move on, despite limited first-team opportunities, but the lure of more football could potentially appeal.
Daniel Sturridge‘s goalscoring return to the side in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over West Ham on Saturday seemed to highlighted Lambert’s flaws further, along with Mario Balotelli and Fabio Borini, and his time on Merseyside could be about to come to an abrupt end.
