After two months back following five months on the sidelines, Daniel Sturridge is now expected to miss another month, according to reports on Friday morning.
England boss Roy Hodgson told journalists on Thursday that the 25-year-old had suffered a tear in a hip muscle and hence was withdrawn from international duty.
“When we did the scan and it turned out that there was a problem, he was absolutely devastated because he didn’t want to leave us,” said Hodgson. “There was no option because he has a slight tear and you can’t play through that.”
That final part there, classic Roy – he’d usually ask him to “play through” with another injury then. Test his resolve.
Incredibly, it’s the fourteenth injury Sturridge has suffered since arriving at Liverpool just over two years ago (according to Physio Room).
Liverpool are already without suspended duo Martin Skrtel and Steven Gerrard for their next three games – two of which (away to Arsenal and Blackburn) could decide their season.
Raheem Sterling will almost certainly return to attack in Sturridge’s absence, and Brendan Rodgers will be hoping Jordon Ibe can return to fitness to take up the right wing-back role.
