Daniel Sturridge‘s miserable season looks set to continue this weekend, with the striker facing fitness problems ahead of Liverpool’s FA Cup semi-final tie against Aston Villa.
Sturridge was ruled out of Monday’s 2-0 victory over Newcastle Utd in the Premier League, suffering a hip injury, and could now miss Sunday’s encounter at Wembley Stadium.
The Daily Mail ‘s Dominic King is amongst those reporting Sturridge’s race to be fit:
The England striker failed to train again yesterday as Brendan Rodgers stepped up preparations for Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final with Aston Villa, meaning Sturridge hasn’t been involved in any outdoor work since before the quarter-final replay against Blackburn.
Adam Lallana and Mario Balotelli have both resumed light training this week after injury and illness respectively, but both could miss out on starting roles on Sunday.
Steven Gerrard and Martin Skrtel are both available after serving three-match bans, whilst Aston Villa are facing multiple injury problems of their own.
Aston Villa vs Liverpool gets underway at 3pm on Sunday and it’s live on BT Sport in the UK. A place in the final against Arsenal or Reading awaits the winner.
