Roberto Firmino: Liverpool reportedly keen to sign Brazilian star

Liverpool hope to beat Man United to Roberto Firmino, Arsenal want William Carvalho and will pay Petr Cech £100,000 a week, say today's papers.

LIVERPOOL STEP UP FIRMINO CHASE

Liverpool are reportedly weighing up an 11th-hour bid to snatch Brazil star Roberto Firmino from under Manchester United's noses.

The exciting Brazilian star has already indicated his willingness to move to the Premier League this summer, amid reports United have had a £13.1million bid accepted by his club, Hoffenheim.

But the Reds have monitored the 23-year-old's situation closely and are ready to make their move for a player who has scored an impressive 49 goals in 153 games in the Bundesliga over five seasons.

Liverpool are looking for a goalscoring midfielder to replace the departing Steven Gerrard - but interest from both Premier League clubs could push his value up to nearer the £20million mark.

Rodgers hopes to land Firmino and play him alongside Philippe Coutinho behind Liverpool's frontman - a system that is likely to appease the Anfield faithful.

ARSENAL MOVE FOR CARVALHO

Arsenal are reported to have tabled a £28.5million bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho - but might need £8.5m in add-ons to trigger his release clause.

The Sun claims Arsene Wenger's side have already seen a £20m offer rejected for the 23-year-old, but Sporting are in need of the cash and will definitely sell the player for as much as they can get this summer.

The Angolan-born midfield anchorman has played 13 times for his country but is currently starring for the Under-21s and played a key role in their 1-0 win over England in Thursday's European Championship opener.

Staying with Arsenal, and several morning papers claim Petr Cech is set to be made the best paid keeper in Arsenal's history with a £100,000-a-week deal.

The Chelsea star, 32, is on the brink of securing a £10million move across London from Chelsea in a deal that will see him earn more than at any time during his Stamford Bridge career.

The in-demand Cech could have earned even more had he opted for a switch to PSG, but his desire to stay in London, where he is settled, always made Arsenal favourites.

Roma are said to be interested in taking Wojciech Szczesny in the wake of Cech's imminent signing, but with David Ospina set to join Fenerbahce in a £4million deal, the Pole is likely to stay at Arsenal as back-up to Cech.
