Carlos Bacca: Has a £21.5million release clause in his contract

Sevilla have told Liverpool that Carlos Bacca will cost every penny of his £21.5million release clause if they want to sign him this summer.

Reports over the weekend suggested Reds boss Brendan Rodgers would abandon his bid to sign Christian Benteke from Aston Villa and instead look to sign Colombia hitman Bacca from Europa League winners Sevilla.

Benteke has a £32.5million release clause at Aston Villa, while Bacca would be a much cheaper alternative, despite his impressive haul of 28 goals in all competitions last season.

However, Sevilla sporting director Monchi has warned any potential suitors that the Spanish club have no intention of cashing in on the forward unless the release clause is met.

Monchi is quoted by the Daily Mirror: "We have no intention of selling him.

"If someone wants Bacca, they have to pay his clause. He’s told us that it’s his desire to stay with the club and I don’t see any other possibility."

At 28-year-old, however, Liverpool would have to decide if Bacca would be worth the investment, particularly in light of the club's policy of only investing big money in players who are likely to at least retain their retail value.

Liverpool have bolstered their forward options with the signing of Danny Ings from Burnley, but with Rickie Lambert, Fabio Borini and Mario Balotelli all tipped to leave the club this summer, the Reds are still in need of new strikers.
