Gary McAllister is in talks with Liverpool about the vacant position of first team coach, according to Sky sources.
Sky sources understand the 50-year-old, who spent two successful years at Anfield as a player, met with Brendan Rodgers on Wednesday.
If he does land the role, the former Scotland international will join new assistant manager Sean O'Driscoll and Dutch coach Pep Lijnders.
The new coaching appointments at Liverpool come after Rodgers' former assistants Colin Pascoe and Mike Marsh left the club at the end of last season.
McAllister has managerial experience at Coventry and Leeds and has also served as an assistant to Gerard Houllier at Aston Villa.
