Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge have been included in the England squad for the forthcoming round of World Cup qualifiers.
Roy Hodgson has named the pair in his 23-man squad, but there is no place for Raheem Sterling or the injured Glen Johnson.
England face a crucial end to their World Cup 2014 qualification group next week when they face Montenegro at Wembley Stadium on Friday, October 11th, before the visit of Poland four days later.
England currently lead Group H by one point from Montenegro. Going into the final two games though, there are four teams in contention to qualify – England, Montenegro, Ukraine and Poland.
The full England squad for the two fixtures is:
Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster, Joe Hart, John Ruddy
Defenders: Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Phil Jagielka, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Kyle Walker
Midfielders: Ross Barkley, Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, James Milner, Andros Townsend, Jack Wilshere.
Forwards: Jermain Defoe, Rickie Lambert, Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge, Daniel Welbeck.
Liverpool face Crystal Palace at Anfield on Saturday in their final game before the international break. The next game for Brendan Rodgers‘ side sees them travel to Newcastle Utd on Saturday, October 19th – just four days after England’s game against Poland in London.

Brendan Rodgers spoke to press at Melwood on Thursday afternoon ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League encounter with Crystal Palace at Anfield this Saturday.
Liverpool will be looking to build on the impressive 3-1 victory away at Sunderland last Sunday which saw them rise to second in the league table.
Victory over the Eagles this weekend will see Liverpool go top for at least 24 hours, until Arsenal face West Brom on Sunday.
On recent form
Rodgers spoke highly of his players working well as a team lately.
“We’re just enjoying working well at the moment. The beauty for me is we’ve still got a lot of improvement to make.
“Ive always asked teams to control the ball, dominate the ball, be aggressive in your defending and press really aggressively and high up the pitch”. “But that can be in whatever system. The system is irrelevant.
“There’s lots of areas we can be better at, but we have that confidence and belief at the moment.”
On the opposition
The Northern Irishman was not set to underestimate Liverpool’s opponents this weekend. Ian Holloway’s men are newly promoted to the Premier League. On Crystal Palace he said:
“Every game is a very, very difficult game. It’s a competitive League. They’ve done brilliant to get promoted and Ian’s an excellent manager.
“It will be a really difficult game. Again, treat it like a Cup Final, work hard.
“We’ve gained consistency, we just need to increase that level of performance. Our reaction since the defeat to Southampton has been very good.”
On the new 3-5-2 system
His comments about the new system of playing three defenders at the back were particularly interesting.
“We looked at it last season, we’ve tried it in training. It can be a system that works for us, it can be a system that works for us, it gives us numbers going forward. It’s a system that the players can flip to quite easily.”
He was also in praise of the fans at Anfield this season:
“Atmosphere at Anfield this season has been excellent. Record at home needs to be very, very good to challenge in the league.”
On individuals
On midfielder Jordan Henderson’s versatility, after the 23-year old has been used in several positions this season including, last week, right-wing-back:
“His versatility is a compliment. Ive been so impressed. Jordan’s become better and better. At the end of last season he played as a false winger on the left.
“Jordan’s got quality and he’s enjoying playing.”
On goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, Rodgers said:
“Any good team always has a top goalkeeper.” “He’s going to be very very important for us, he’ll save us points this year.”
Lucas Leiva will miss this Saturday’s game after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Sunderland last weekend, earning him an automatic one-match ban.
“He’s started the season well. He’s been bery committed. We will give someone else an opportunity.”
On the return of legends at the Academy
On Robbie Fowler, Steve McManaman and Rob Jones beginning to work at the club’s youth academy this week, Rodgers said:
“It’s important that clubs of this status that you’ve got players who people can identify with”.
On the Champions League
Rodgers also said he attended Manchester City’s Champions League game against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night and was full of praise for the German and European Champions: “Bayern Munich were fantastic, their work-rate was second to none.”
On injuries
Rodgers also told press he hopes to have Glen Johnson return to full training after the forthcoming international break. Johnson has been out since sustaining a high ankle sprain in the victory over Manchester United last month.
Joe Allen should be back for Liverpool’s trip to Newcaslte on 19th October, whilst Philippe Coutinho should start running again at Melwood next week. Liverpool’s home game against West Brom on Saturday, October 26th has been penciled in as his possible return date.

Six games into the 2012-2013 season, Liverpool sat 14th in the Premier League table on just five points. One year on, and Brendan Rodgers side are now second on 13 points – but many fans feel the football currently being played by the Reds is inferior to the style we saw a year ago.
Gone is the possession football, gone is the slow, patient build-up play and gone are any signs of the pressing game that failed to materialise as we hoped in the first place. Instead, this season’s Liverpool side has so far been one that struggles to hold on to the ball, has no presence of any kind in midfield, but despite that, tends to take away the points.
For a club barren of Champions League football for 5 years and desperate to get back among Europe’s elite, it is, of course, winning that counts. The concern is that results soon start to match performances, and if Liverpool’s football doesn’t improve soon, the points might start to dry up.
The return of the mercurial Luis Suarez – a player who has already proved he can win games on his own – will go some way to allaying those fears, but he can’t solve the fundamental issues in midfield currently stunting the side’s play.
Lucas and Gerrard
So far this season Liverpool have averaged only just over 50% possession: hardly what you’d expect from a team playing possession-based football. At 33, Steven Gerrard is increasingly immobile and Lucas Leiva was never been the quickest of players even before his double injury, meaning the midfield duo often struggles to keep with play, especially when breaking quickly. At times there has been nothing but a huge void where the midfield should be, especially in the second halves of games when both Gerrard and Lucas have run out of steam.
Defensively, Lucas still has has a tendency to be drawn to the ball instead of reading the game and holding a tactical position, and Gerrard has never been known for his tactical discipline. Lucas offers little going forward (when did he last play a delicate through-ball) and while Gerrard still has most of the technical attributes, his legs don’t often get him in a position to contribute to attacks other than from set-pieces
Perhaps the biggest downfall of the pairing is the lack of energy in what is supposed to be the engine-room. Jordan Henderson does a good job of doing their running for them, but this clearly detracts from the attacking threat he poses down the right, and wears him out in the process.
Coutinho the Creator
So far during his Liverpool career Coutinho has been played either on the left where he drifts into the middle but also out of games, or in the hole as a dedicated No 10. Towards the end of last season he performed the latter role to great effect, supplying the nails for Daniel Sturridge to hammer home. The only time we’ve seen Coutinho deployed centrally from the start this season was against Swansea before he was withdrawn because of injury, and the difference his absence made was obvious. Before being clattered by Ashley Williams, the creative Brazilian was dropping deep to collect the ball from Lucas and Gerrard with such regularity that it was almost as if he were playing as a designated ball-carrier.
Liverpool’s centre-backs and central midfielders have frequently struggle to find a passing outlet this season, causing possession to break down, but Coutinho’s main duty against Swansea appeared to be to make sure his teammates always had a simple passing option. Sometimes that option was just to let him take the ball from their toes, but with Coutinho’s sublime passing and dribbling skills, his ability to see and execute a pass others couldn’t or move forward with the ball himself helped us to keep possession and build attacks.
This wasn’t Coutinho playing strictly in the hole behind the strikers; instead he was dropping right back to the halfway line and deeper, and if you look at his time at Liverpool so far, a good deal of his best work – particularly his passing – has come from deeper areas; picking the ball up around the halfway line.
Brendan Rodgers has said himself that Coutinho can play as a central midfielder as well as an attacking midfielder, meaning he could potentially be incorporated into a 1-2 midfield as part of the ‘2’, as opposed to having to play as the ‘1’ in a 2-1. Playing Coutinho in this slightly deeper role – similar to how Iniesta plays for Barcelona – would not only help the team keep possession and increase the creativity in deeper areas, but would also allow Rodgers to revert to playing with one holding player who routinely collects the ball from defence and starts attacking moves.
Allen the Controller
At the start of last season Joe Allen was arguably Liverpool’s best player, picking up three man of the match awards from journalists on the official site. His deployment as the holding player was a temporary measure while Lucas recovered from injury, with even Rodgers stating that when played slightly further player as the ‘shuttle’ in a midfield 3, there is even more to Allen’s game.
Yet those early performances when Allen fell in-between split centre backs and helped the side build from the back remain his best in a red shirt. Of course, this was during a time when the side as a whole was struggling results wise, but this was down to a dodgy defence and, aside from Suarez, impotent attack, with the Welshman looking like the one player who truly understood the system.
Another of Liverpool’s issue this season has been Mignolet’s distribution, with the Belgian struggling to maintain the high standards set by Pepe Reina. But is this entirely Mignolet’s fault? With Gerrard and Lucas operating as the world’s most static double-pivot, Mignolet hasn’t had a designated player confident with the ball in tight situations coming to collect the ball from him, and the inclusion of the possession-averse Martin Skrtel ahead of him hasn’t helped either.
Brendan Rodgers appears to be the only person opting out of the consensus that Liverpool require a defensive midfielder, but preferring a ‘controller’ type DM to the more physical alternative many fans would like to see, Allen’s inclusion at the back of a midfield triangle, with Coutinho and one other ahead of him would instantly transform Liverpool’s midfield to one far more mobile and comfortable on the ball. But who should that third player be?
From Gerrard to Henderson
With Allen starting things off from deep and Coutinho dropping in and linking midfield to attack, the third player needs to be someone who can bind the midfield together with strong running and a physical presence. Jordan Henderson’s incredible engine and stamina allow him to contribute both going forwards and in defence, and his comparative physicality would compensate for the diminutive frames of Allen and Coutinho. Playing alongside (or just behind) Coutinho, Henderson would compliment the Brazilian’s quick feet and vision with well-timed runs forward, arriving late in the box or bursting beyond the strikers.
If the opposition is in the ascendency, Henderson can drop in beside Allen leaving Coutinho ahead of them. With Coutinho more comfortable left of centre and Henderson naturally suited to the right, the pair should offer good balance horizontally as well as vertically.
Whether Brendan Rodgers is prepared to drop Gerrard for the player many see as his natural replacement remains to be seen. Judging by fans’ reactions whenever it’s suggested that he should, he can perhaps be forgiven for feeling that it just isn’t an option for him politically, if not tactically. Lucas’ ban presents a natural opportunity to try out something new, but with Steven Gerrard seemingly unbreakable these days, it may be a while before he is given a similar opportunity to experiment without the club captain in the line-up.
In large sections of the fan-base the suspicion remains that Gerrard simply isn’t suited to playing in a team true to Rodgers playing philosophy – a philosophy which appears to have been completely disregarded so far this season. If the change is in-part to accommodate a player four months the wrong side of 33, and results start to fall in-line with performances, dropping Gerrard could become a make-or-break decision for Rodgers.
For now, of course, there is no cause for alarm. Liverpool sit just two points behind Arsenal at the top of the table with winnable fixtures coming up and Luis Suarez back in the team. But Steven Gerrard can’t play forever. At some point a Liverpool manager will have to leave him out. Brendan Rodgers should make sure that manager is him and not somebody else.

Liverpool have told on-loan left-back Jack Robinson that they have someone watching every one of his games during his loan-spell at Blackpool.
The 19-year old will spend the season in-loan at Bloomfield Road as he gains valuable experience playing in the Championship.
Robinson was named Man of the Match as Blackpool were held to a goalless draw by struggling Bolton on Tuesday night.
And the England Under-21 international hopes he is impressing his parent club back on Merseyside with his performances this season.
“I haven’t heard from Brendan Rodgers but they have told me they have someone watching every game I play, so that’s good,” he is quoted in the Blackpool Gazette as saying.
“I’m sure they are reporting back to the Liverpool manager.
“Playing games at this level every week is something I haven’t done before, so for the manager here at Blackpool to put me straight in the team is great. I can only thank him for that.”
Blackpool are currently sixth in the Championship table, having picked up 19 points from their opening 10 games.
Robinson and the Seasiders face Charlton Athletic away this Saturday at 3pm.

Siapa yang anda paling rindu untuk beraksi bersalam Liverpool...? KPLM GReds
Liverpool lie second in the Premier League table, and their performances so far this season are generating genuine belief that a top four finish is possible.
But, for all the consistency of Simon Migolet, the leadership of Steven Gerrard, and the superb partnership of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, there is arguably one player who is a weak link in the side: Jose Enrique .
The 27-year-old Spaniard has plenty of good aspects to his game, whether it be his brute strength or his speed when recovering back, but there is always the nagging feeling that he is a disaster waiting to happen.
Defensively he switches off far too often, and he is also guilty of holding on to the ball for too long, before losing it in key areas. The latest example of his poor defensive work was the key reason Liverpool were knocked out of the League Cup by Manchester United.
The Reds outplayed United on their own patch for a large part of the game, with every player doing his job in the side expertly. Their hard work was ruined by Enrique though, who inexplicably let Javier Hernandez run off him and score the only goal of the game from close range. Games of such magnitude are decided by small errors from individuals, and Enrique has been guilty of this more than once. He will often play well for 89 minutes of a game, but there is always a mistake in him.
As hard as it may be to hear, United’s vast success over the last 20 years has been down to their remarkable consistency and lack of errors at the back. At their peaks, the likes of Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra gave away nothing, particularly in big games.
Similarly, look at Liverpool under Rafa Benitez during the 2008/09 season. Their full-backs at the time, Alvaro Arbeloa and Fabio Aurelio, were not the most eye-catching players, especially Arbeloa, but how often did they let the side down?
On Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football two weeks ago, Reds legend Jamie Carragher spoke about the frustration of playing alongside Enriqu:
“I stopped talking to Enrique in the end, I had no idea what he was going to do and he didn’t listen to me anyway.”
That sums him up really.
When he signed from Newcastle in the summer of 2011, Enrique was regarded as one of the best left-backs in the country. Many Liverpool fans were excited about his arrival, seeing him as the perfect man to fill a position that had been an issue at Anfield since John Arne Riise best days in the mid 2000s. A very bright start to his career under Kenny Dalglish seemed to justify the excitement, but his form tailed off dramatically and he hasn’t been the same player since.
For a player respected more for his attacking qualities than his defensive work, his statistics aren’t exactly groundbreaking to say the least. Two goals and eight assists in 78 appearances are not good figures by a more defensive left-backs standards, but for one whose defending is his weakness it’s even worse.
As mentioned previously, the Spaniard does have positives to his game and there is no doubt he gives his all in a Reds shirt. If Rodgers and his side are going to push on and become a regular Champions League participant again, however, they need to find a player with more game intelligence than Enrique.
Perhaps the injured Aly Cissokho is the answer? The 26-year-old was injured on his debut for the club against Notts County, and therefore hasn’t had the chance to battle with Enrique. Glen Johnson has played on the left before, and playing him there when he returns from injury could be an option, with Martin Kelly or Andre Wisdom on the right.
There is no doubt that this is the most exciting time to be a Liverpool fan since Benitez’s team almost clinched the title four years ago. The squad has some wonderful attacking players coupled with a very solid defence, and there are signs that Brendan Rodgers is improving all the time as manager.
If Jose Enrique remains a regular in the side this season, however, he will do more harm than good to Liverpool’s top four aspirations.

Jose Enrique – the weak link for Brendan Rodgers’ ever-improving Liverpool?

Victor Moses says he is loving life at Liverpool since his summer move from Chelsea.
The Nigerian attacker is on a season-long loan from Stamford Bridge and scored on his debut against Swansea last month.
In more recent games Moses has been given the responsibility of playing in behind strikers Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez, and the 22-year-old is relishing the opportunity.
“I am loving it here and I am very satisfied. As long as I am on the pitch I just want to enjoy myself,” he told the club’s official TV channel, LFC TV.
“The more games you play the more experience you get and I just want to carry on playing, help the team out and score some more goals.”
Moses has impressed since coming to the club – his appearances increased due to Philippe Coutinho‘s injury. However, some believe he is not being used to his full potential in that position between midfield and attack.
After Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday, Moses believes the club are on to a good thing.
He added, “We are doing well, second in the league and we’ve just got to keep the momentum going and keep winning games really.”
Liverpool continue their Premier League campaign at home to Crystal Palace this Saturday. Kick-off at Anfield is at 3pm.
