Stoke City boss Mark Hughes is stepping up his efforts to bring Liverpool winger Oussama Assaidi to the club on a permanent basis.

Assaidi has proved a massive success during his season-long loan spell with the Potters, scoring four goals in 24 appearances.

He missed two months with a knee ligament injury earlier in the season and could again be on the sidelines when they face Fulham on Saturday, but Hughes is keen to press on and find a deal with the Anfield club.

Hughes said: "We like Ossie and if we could come to an arrangement with Liverpool we would like to bring him here.

"He's a valuable player and I think Liverpool recognise that. I think there's been tentative enquiries but nothing concrete yet.

"He's done really well here. It's certainly helped him and Ossie's certainly helped us.

"He's got good friends here. He's got a good relationship with Marko Arnautovic - they make a nice couple! Those things are important to players. If they're happy in an environment then that can help if you're trying to bring them to a club."

Hughes comes up against one of his former clubs on Saturday, but says he has to put their troubles out of his mind - a win for Stoke and a Sunderland win over Manchester United would send Fulham down.

He added: "We want to get another three points. We were disappointed last week because we merited more than we got.

"We've got an opportunity against Fulham to match our biggest ever points total in the Premier League. That's our motivation - it's not about beating a team and making them go out of the league.

"It's about us doing out business and Fulham have to do theirs.

"I've got a lot of time for Fulham. It's a good club, we had a good season, got to eighth in the Premier League. I just felt it was better for both parties to have a parting of the ways.

"You look back and think I probably did it too soon. I've got no grudge against Fulham because there's a lot of good people there. I wish them well, after the weekend."

Brendan Rodgers addressed a room of journalists at Melwood on Friday afternoon to preview Monday’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace.

On last week’s defeat to Chelsea

“I congratulated Jose [Mourinho]. He’s a friend of mine and he got a good victory last weekend. I’ve watched it twice, they played well.

“We’ve been analysing the game this week — I’ve watched it twice more. My job is to find the solution in those kind of games. We’ve shown we can score goals and win in many ways.

“Against Chelsea, the speed of our game was good but we need to find new solutions in the final third. That’s my job as a coach.

“The crime’s not losing the game, it’s looking and finding the solutions the next time.

“We ran out of patience against Chelsea, so that’s something we will look to improve on. I learn quickly, my players are great learners.

“We’ve a long way to go and last week’s game will help us move forward and learn.

“The second goal against Chelsea was my fault – I put two centre-halves forward, but I wanted to get something from the game.”

On Everton’s game against Man City (Saturday) and the significance to Liverpool

“I believe there is another twist in this title race. This week has put everything in perspective, but we’re two points clear.

“Make no mistake, Everton are a great club and done really well this year. They’re fighting for a Champions League position.

“Yes, I probably will be watching Everton – Man City. I’m not one of these who says I’ll be on a golf course — I love football!

“Man City have found going to Everton tough in the last few years. But for us, the focus is on ourselves. We can’t rely on anyone. Our job is to get three points.

“It may not make good TV for you [looking at awkward journalist], but our focus is on Liverpool, not Everton, not Man City.”

On Luis Suarez – PFA Player of the Year – and the summer transfer window

“Congratulations Luis Suarez – the PFA award was really special to him. He’s been outstanding for Liverpool. Very well deserved.

“We know we have to strengthen our squad now. We want to be challenging in every competition. We need stronger depth.

“To know Luis is happy is important. We have happy players, content with being here.”

On Steven Gerrard after his slip against Chelsea

Steven Gerrard picked himself up straight away, he’s very experienced. He’s a really good man, his mistake was overanalysed.”

On Monday’s opponents, Crystal Palace

“Tony Pulis has done an outstanding job at Palace. It’s difficult to take over a team new to the Premier League. He’s galvanised them.

“Pulis has ingrained a real spirit amongst his players. It’s been a great effort by Palace.

“Every team in this league poses a tough test, home or away. Palace are no different. They’ll defend deep, I’ve been studying them.

“It’ll be a difficult game at Palace. But that’s our job – to find a way to make the breakthrough and get the three points.

“Palace enjoy playing against big opponents, so for us it’s respecting them but bringing our qualities to the table.”

On Daniel Sturridge’s availability

“We’ll see over the next 48 hours about Sturridge’s fitness. He’s worked really hard, but was a bit unfit against Chelsea.”

On sticking to his football philosophies

“I take great pride when I’ve met Liverpool fans this week who say they’re finding pride in their club again. That is very satisfying.

“The methods we’ve implemented over a period of time since I came here have worked. Now we continue improving and growing.

“Winning in the way that we want is important, so we’ll continue working in the way we want.”

Crystal Palace v Liverpool gets underway at 8pm on Monday, 5th May 2014. The match is live on Sky Sports 1 in the UK.

Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho says he and his teammates are not dwelling on Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Chelsea and are mental prepared for their next game.

The Reds take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday night, still very much carrying a chance of winning the Premier League title should Manchester City slip up in any of their three remaining games.

Chelsea’s win at Anfield last weekend ended an 11-match winning run for Brendan Rodgers‘ side, but Sakho insists heads have not dropped in the Liverpool camp.

“Everything is going well, we are fine. Everything is cool,” he told the club’s official website.

“We have to remain calm and relaxed. Like I said, everything is going well, even though we lost that game. But that defeat, it’s in the past now, it’s behind us.

“We now have to focus on what’s ahead of us, meaning the next two games. And we mustn’t change anything, we should remain true to ourselves and play our own game and then try and win those two matches so we can grab those six points.”

Sakho also took the opportunity to thank Liverpool fans for their “fantastic” support all season, which sees the Reds top the table with two games to go.

“The support is fantastic,” he added. “This is the Liverpool family. The supporters are very, very important for the team and the club.

“When people tell me Liverpool are a good team, I say it’s not just the players and the staff – it is the players, staff and the city. For me, Liverpool is a country because the supporters are fantastic.”

“Throughout this season we’ve both been equally valuable. The supporters have been fantastic all season but so have the players, it’s been a joint effort, so we can thank them and they can thank us.”

Crystal Palace v Liverpool gets underway at 8pm on Monday, 5th May 2014 and it’s live on Sky Sports 1 in the UK.

Ahead of Monday’s final away game of the season against Crystal Palace, we got the views of Selhurst Park season ticket holder David Matthews.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

Monday, 5th May 2014; 8pm Kick Off

Q. At the beginning of the season you tipped Liverpool for a top four finish and “maybe even a surprise title challenge”. Do you have any similar words of wisdom and do you think that Rodgers’ side have performed as expected or better?

You have had a superb season and performed way above early season expectations. It is a team that has grown as the season has progressed and whatever happens from now till a week Sunday, Liverpool will be in this title race till the very last day, and Brendan Rodgers and all his players deserve all the plaudits that they have rightly been getting.

Q. You also predicted that former Palace favourite Victor Moses would be a hit for us – what went wrong there?

Yeah, Victor has struggled. I think he needs to get himself to a club in the summer where he can get regular first team football. Liverpool (and Chelsea) are two of the biggest clubs in English football and it might have proved to be a step to far for him.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Saturday, October 5, 2013: Liverpool's Victor Moses in action against Crystal Palace during the Premiership match at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

If he can get himself to a club like Everton, Newcastle, Southampton, Swansea (or even back at Palace), I think it would give him a good opportunity to get his career back on track.

Q. When Palace came to Anfield back in October, in our match preview we described them as “sub standard” for the Premier League. It proved that way, at least for the opening 45 minutes that day, but what’s changed under Tony Pulis since then?

Since Pulis arrived, the turnaround on the pitch has been incredible. We have become a well organised, hardworking side and every player knows’ their specific role on the pitch at any given time. We are not a team that the opposition enjoy playing against.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Sunday, October 7, 2012: Liverpool's manager Brendan Rodgers argues with Stoke City's manager Tony Pulis during the Premiership match at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

We will happily allow you to have the ball, but in areas of the pitch where you won’t be able to directly hurt us. And despite the reputation that Pulis got at Stoke, we are far from being a side that just plays long diagonals balls up to our centre forward. In fact, some of our football in the last month or two has been quite enjoyable to watch.

Q. You were pretty subdued, both in terms of the crowd and the team, against City last week – can we have the same on Monday, please?

Well, there is a danger that we may have checked out for the season. The players have given so much both physically & mentally to put us in a position where survival had been secured with four games to go that complacency and tiredness might be kicking in. I think the crowd suffered from it as well on Sunday, but it’s our final home game of what has been an incredible season, so I can imagine the atmosphere will be pretty decent for this one.

Q. What should we be wary of? Puncheon and Bolaise on the break?

I will have to say our defensive organisation. We can suffocate teams and have become incredibly efficient at making it very difficult for opposing teams to play through us and break us down. The longer we do that, the more effective the likes of Puncheon & Bolasie become as they look to exploit the space that is being created as opposing teams look to throw more players forward.

Manchester City did something that hardly anyone has managed to do against us since Tony Pulis arrived, and that was score an early goal. We saw first-hand how frustrated your side got against Chelsea, and I can certainly see us attempting to execute a similar kind of game plan, especially in the early stages of the match. We won’t time waste as much as Chelsea though!

Q. What’s your hopes for next season now that survival has been achieved?

To consolidate ourselves and survive once again. We aren’t under any illusions; next year will be another tough season but as long as we make some solid additions to the squad in the summer, we should have enough to repeat this year’s achievements of staying in the Premier League.

Q. Go on then, who is gonna win it? The title that is…

Well, before last Sunday, I was convinced Liverpool were going to be champions. But in the space of four hours, the momentum shifted to the Etihad, and unfortunately I can’t see Manchester City slipping up from this point.

First game first goal , lega saya.

Suarez mulai memenangi hati ramai orang termasuk Evra sendiri mengundi dia utk PFA player of the year , kalau perangai dia mcam haram , tak mustahil dia tak menang anugerah itu walaupun dari segi pencapaian di padang dia layak.

Daniel Agger
