Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana believes the club have pulled off a "great signing" after securing the signature of his former Southampton teammate Nathaniel Clyne.

The England right-back became the Reds' sixth signing of the summer when he completed the move from Southampton.

"It’s a great signing for us," Lallana told Sky Sports HQ.

"We’ll look to improve on last year – it was obviously disappointing but we’ll look forward to get going again."

Clyne made his England debut last November and is expected to be the replacement for Glen Johnson at both club and international level.

The 24-year-old said he was focused on winning silverware while at Anfield and Lallana believes the signing has been a "coup" for Liverpool.

"To manage to persuade him to sign for Liverpool - as I'm sure there would have been other top clubs, and even European clubs interested in him - is a great coup for us," Lallana told liverpoolfc.com.

"He's as solid as they come for a right-back and getting forward, he's got goals in his locker.

"In one versus one situations defensively, he's the kind of full-back you just don't want to come up against."

The Liverpool midfielder is also impressed by the moves the club have already made in readiness for the start of pre-season next week.

"The signings so far have been tremendous," he said.

"There's (Roberto) Firmino, (James) Milner, (Danny) Ings and now Clyne, as well as (Adam) Bogdan and (Joe) Gomez.

"It's a great variety and added to what we've already got, hopefully it can be a good combination for success."

AC Milan have signed striker Carlos Bacca from Sevilla, subject to a medical, the club have announced.

The Colombia international, who had three years left on his contract with Sevilla, already agreed personal terms with Milan last week.

Bacca, 28, joined Sevilla from Club Brugge in 2013 and has scored 34 goals in 71 appearances for the Andalusian outfit.

Sevilla want to keep Bacca, who was prolific in the Primera Division last season, scoring 20 goals in 37 appearances to help Sevilla finish fifth.

The South American also scored seven goals in the Europa League, including two in last month's final that saw Sevilla beat Dnipro 3-2 to win the competition for a record fourth time.

Unlike Milan, who will not feature in Europe next season after a 10th-place finish in Serie A, Sevilla will play in the Champions League next term.

Sebastian Coates: Joins Sunderland on permanent deal

Sebastian Coates: Joins Sunderland on permanent deal

Sunderland have completed the permanent signing of central defender Sebastian Coates from Liverpool.

The 24-year-old Uruguay international spent last season on loan with the Black Cats and rejoins them on a four-year contract for an undisclosed transfer fee.

Liverpool paid Nacional £7m for Coates in 2011 and the defender now becomes Sunderland head coach Dick Advocaat's first signing as he attempts to rebuild his squad to try and avoid a repeat of the troubles of the last two seasons that saw them flirt with relegation.

The Uruguay defender was signed on loan by compatriot Gus Poyet during his spell in charge on Wearside.

He struggled to make an impact during his early months in the north-east but he came to the fore as the Black Cats launched another ultimately successful safety bid at the end of the campaign.

In total, he made just 13 appearances for the club, but played every minute of the final six games from which Sunderland took nine points to save themselves from relegation.

“Sebastian was an important part of the team under Dick last season and we are delighted that he has joined us on a permanent basis,” sporting director Lee Congerton told the club’s official website.

“He has Barclays Premier League experience, which is important and, after spending last season on loan with us, he will be able to settle into the team very quickly.”
