Premeir League: Roberto Martinez enjoyed tactical tussle with Roberto Martinez in Merseyside derby

Roberto Martinez was fascinated by the tactical battle played out by Everton and Liverpool during their goalless Merseyside derby.

Nothing could separate the two rivals at Goodison Park as Jordon Ibe and Seamus Coleman went closest to opening the scoring for either side in the tight strategic contest.

Depsite the lack of clear-cut opportunities, Martinez insisted the game displayed other qualities not often associated to fierce local derbies.

“It was a very interesting game of football,” he told Saturday Night Football.

“Tactically it was a real good battle between two sides who were trying to score goals but, at the same time, were very strong defensively.

“It was a fascinating tactical battle from that point of view. You see players showing an incredible flexibility in their tactical awareness and I really enjoyed that side.

“It was unfortunate from our point of view that we had to be cautious with injuries and a number of players coming back from injury, otherwise we could have used our bench to our advantage.

“Liverpool had a good chance in the first half and we had two opportunities in the second half that maybe we should have done a bit better and a move in the second half. But all in all I thought tactically it was one of those games you want to analyse and enjoy.”

Everton were only able to create one shot on target throughout the entire 90 minutes. Despite this, Martinez explained it was his intention to set the Toffees up for a tight game that would ultimately hinge on the taking of the odd chance.

“Today was about making sure that a confident team couldn’t get into a position where they could score and dominate the game,” Martinez added.

“When we got on the ball we created good space and probably some decisions, or the technical quality of the action, wasn’t good enough.

“We got in good positions to hurt this Liverpool side, like when Seamus Coleman got into the box and draws a great reaction save from Mignolet.

“We were working for the clean sheet with defensive organisation and being able to win the game. It’s not about having shots or having a threat and leaving yourselves exposed.

“The game was between two sides with asymmetric system which opened a lot of one versus one situation all over the park and it was a fascinating tactical battle.”

Apa bezanya,apa hebatnya,apa kelainannya MERSEYSIDE DERBY ni berbanding derby-derby yg lain??

Ok kita mula dengan sejarah dulu...



Pertemuan pertama kedua-dua rival ini bermula pada 13 October 1894... Dan Derby ini adalah yang TERLAMA dalam sejarah liga utama (BPL) sejak musim 1962/63..yg mana kita tahu Everton bermain di Goodison Park dan Liverpool di Anfield..



Utk info, gelaran "Merseyside Derby" bermula sejak tahun 1955... Ate korang tau dak kenapa?



Ha cmni...mula2 dulu namanya lain..mengikut cerita org tua2, dulu rival match ni dipanggil "The Friendly Derby" pada asalnya.. Ha sebab apa? Sebab majoriti keluarga disana terdiri dr penyokong Liverpool dan Everton (Al maklum lah bukan jauh pun)..



Sebenarnya byk kalau nk diceritakan..kalau korg nak tau lebih,boleh search google or website or aplikasi2 yg ade cerita pasal ni...



Dipendekkan cerita dan berbalik kepada kenapa derby ni berbeza, ni jawapan dr sy:



1) Derby terlama dalam sejarah..juga diperingkat tertinggi..kalau derby lain,ade team yg dh tersingkir ke liga bawah..so dh xde la derby nyer..



2) Ini derby yg tiada unsur2 dengki or yg tak baik - maksudnya,kalau kita tgk rival derby yg lain,semuanya nk bgaduh je..org tu dengki org tu..org ni dengki org tu..berbeza ngn kita yg ada unsur FAMILY dan brotherhood..fan sesama fan leh duduk sekali..no problem..atau bak kata lain,pakwe liverpool awek everton pn takde masalah...hehee



3) Banyak kenangan,sejarah tercipta disini..ha kalau nak tau derby ni jugak dinobatkan Derby terbanyak yg mengumpul kad merah...hehehe biasa la kan :)

A dull 0-0 draw saw Liverpool and Everton leave Goodison Park with a share of the spoils on Saturday evening, and we rate each Reds player on the day.

SIMON MIGNOLET (out of 10)- 7

The Belgian’s good form continues, and although he virtually had nothing to do throughout, he made a crucial late save to deny Seamus Coleman an undeserved winner.

He is much improved in 2015, and hasn’t conceded a goal in 480 minutes of Premier League action.

EMRE CAN- 8

The 21-year-old again showed what a talent he is, marauding forward with the ball, spraying passes and defending resolutely. He was a little too confident in possession at times, but that’s being ultra harsh. Dealt with Romelu Lukaku very well. Man of the Match.

MARTIN SKRTEL- 7.5

The Slovakian had a very impressive evening, dealing well with Lukaku and showing quality in all aspects of his game. The 30-year-old is one of several players who has improved greatly since the turn of the year.

MAMADOU SAKHO- 6

Sakho has been superb since coming back into the side, but he was poor against the Toffess. He was ponderous on the ball on a number of occasions, almost losing it in vital areas, and he just didn’t exude his normal authority. Positives were his excellent reading of the play with some timely interceptions.

JORDON IBE- 7.5

Ibe was given just his second Premier League start by Brendan Rodgers and was terrific at right wing-back.

The 19-year-old hit the post with a stunning long-range effort in the first half, showed pace and trickery on the ball and defended doggedly when called upon. He has a massive future ahead of him.

LUCAS LEIVA- n/a

The Brazilian went off injured after just 15 minutes, and his influence was missed greatly.

JORDAN HENDERSON- 7

The vice-captain was not always great on the ball, particularly when he tried to open up the Everton defence, but he showed drive in midfield and broke up play numerous times.

The 24-year-old will play better, but he was still invaluable to his side.

ALBERTO MORENO- 6.5

The Spaniard has become a very solid member of the team, and while this is a compliment, it’s not all positive with the 22-year-old. He showed good pace and attacking quality at times, but needs to start influencing things a little more.

STEVEN GERRARD- 5

The skipper has had so many memorable moments in Merseyside derbies, but he was extremely ineffective throughout. He didn’t press Everton with any real intensity, and his use of the ball from both open play and set-pieces was below-par. Was he struggling from playing a full 90 vs Bolton in midweek?

Brendan Rodgers was too sentimental in keeping the captain on in his 33rd and final Merseyside derby.

PHILIPPE COUTINHO- 6.5

Coutinho has been in wonderful form of late, but he didn’t hit those heights against Roberto Martinez’s side. He tried a little too much on the ball at times, and was replaced by Sturridge early in the second-half, possibly due to injury. His departure though saw Liverpool hugely lacking attacking intent thereafter.

RAHEEM STERLING- 6

Like Coutinho, the 20-year-old was nowhere near his brilliant best. He had a few chances to find the back of the net but his finishing let him down, and he was a little wasteful in possession.

Substitutes

JOE ALLEN (on for Lucas 16)- 6

The Welshman was a poor replacement for Lucas. He was weak physically, conceded needless fouls and lacked urgency. Kept the ball well but offered very little. Liverpool can do and need better.

DANIEL STURRIDGE (on for Coutinho 56)- 6

The 25-year-old looked a little rusty, despite the odd neat flick here and there.

RICKIE LAMBERT (on for Sterling 82)- n/a

The former Southampton man was not on the pitch long enough to merit a rating, and scuffed a late chance to earn all three points for his side.

Brendan Rodgers praises Jordon Ibe and “outstanding team effort” in Merseyside derby stalemate

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers described Jordon Ibe as “outstanding” while also applying that tag to his team’s overall performance.

“There are a lot of outstanding young talents out there but he’s one who I think can be a big player,” he said of the player signed from Wycombe three years ago.

“He’s tactically very good in the game and you can see his quality in the one-on-ones. He can beat people and he puts a shift in and works.

“He’s only going to get better and stronger so he was absolutely outstanding tonight and it was great to see.”

Referring to his side’s efforts, he added: “We came here and only conceded one shot on target, we just switched towards the end on the counter-attack.

“Apart from that I thought we were outstanding in the game and probably just failed around the edge of the box.

“It was an outstanding team effort and I think the least we deserved was probably a point.”

Everton boss Roberto Martinez felt the need to practice caution against a resurgent Liverpool restricted his team from unleashing their full attacking potential, but he relished the tactical war that unfolded.

The Spaniard said: “It was a good battle between two sides. We were trying to score goals but I thought we were very good defensively.

“It was a fascinating tactical battle from that point of view and you could see players showing incredible flexibility in their tactical awareness. I really enjoyed that side of things.

“It was unfortunate from our point of view that we had to be a bit cautious with a couple of players coming back from injury, otherwise we could have used the players we had on the bench to our advantage.

“You saw Liverpool take a good shot in the first half and we had two opportunities in the second half that we should have done a little better with.

“All in all, I thought it was one of those games that you really want to analyse and just enjoy.”

Gerrard: Jordon Ibe has big future

Steven Gerrard admitted Liverpool should have done better in what appeared to be his final Merseyside derby, but he tipped Jordon Ibe to have a “terrific future” in the game.

In what was Gerrard’s last taste of the fixture unless the rivals are drawn against each other in the later stages of the FA Cup, the Reds were restricted to a goalless draw by Everton at Goodison Park.

Nineteen-year-old winger Ibe, making his derby debut, enjoyed the best scoring chance of the game as his shot from deep clattered Joel Robles’ far post in the first half.

While captain Gerrard was disappointed by the draw, he is optimistic for Liverpool’s future having witnessed a virtuoso performance from his young team-mate. “(It should have been) much better than that,” the 34-year-old told Sky Sports 1. “I think in the first half both sides cancelled each other out and we were just looking for that spark and that opening that we needed but it never came.

“Everton are a good team, they defended well and defences were well on top today.”

On Ibe, who spent the first half of the season on loan with Derby, Gerrard added: “He’s fantastic.

“He only found out he was playing yesterday so to have 24 hours to prepare for a big match like this and be man of the match, it was a very sensational performance.

“He was very unlucky not to get the winner with that unbelievable strike in the first half so he’s got a big future and, if he keeps working hard, he’s got a terrific future.”

Los Angeles Galaxy-bound Gerrard might even have notched a winner himself but his audacious overhead kick did not ruffle Everton goalkeeper Robles.

“I knew I got good contact on it and it would have been a great way to round off what was possibly my last time here at Goodison but I think all in all it was a fair result today,” the midfielder added.

“Both sides huffed and puffed. We maybe edged the chances but I think we can’t have too many complaints.

“There are a lot of positives for us, certainly this guy (Ibe). He was sensational in the derby and I think Derby have done a great job with him.

“We wanted him back because of how well he’d done. If he can keep performing like that then we’ll do well.”

Back 3 dilihat semakin serasi bersama dgn komunikasi bersama mignolet juga semakin baik.

Peningkatan prestasi west ham musim ini byk dikaitkan dgn penggunaan sistem compact diamond di mid oleh big sam. Cuma bezanya mlm ni downing diletakkan di sblh kiri diamond dan nolan brmain di &039;tip&039; of the diamond , sedangkan downing sgt efektif apabila bermain di tip diamond. West ham nmpk buntu di tengah kerana downing yg berada di kiri jarang mendapat bola.



STERLING VS VALENCIA

Men to watch bg game td kerana kedua-dua pasukan cuba utk release dua pelesit ini utk mencari gol dr weaker side lawan. Valencia byk berada di sebelah kanan padang liverpool iaitu di kawasan emre can. Ini kerana emre can yg lebih offensive sering kali naik ke atas dan jika liverpool lose possession , player west ham akn cuba release valencia dan beliau akn mara dgn pace beliau utk mengatasi emre can. Masalahnya cuma carroll selalu lambat utk bantu valencia menyerang.

Sterling pula lebih stick dgn collins yg agk slow + collins ada sedikit kecederaan kaki. Sterling akn tunggu through ball maut dari member atau cuba beat collins dgn twist and turn , dan mcm2 lagi skill menarik. Collins byk kali diselamatkan oleh reid yg selalu dtg back up. Tapi reid pun byk kali kena ole 20 sen 󾌴

Coutinho is my MOTM mlm ni dgn dua assists menarik dr beliau. 3 key passes pd mlm ini merupakan yg terbanyak bg kedua-dua pasukan. Ternyata merupakan nadi dan brain bg skuad liverpool. Boleh dikatakan semua pemain akn cuba pass bola pd coutinho dan menantikan magic touch beliau. Aksinya sgt mengujakan utk ditonton.



DANCING STURRIDGE IS BACK

Ramai yg meragui kebolehan sturridge utk adapt dlm sistem 3-4-3 ini kerana brendan rodgers mula mengadaptasikan sistem ini selepas kecederaan sturridge. Tapi sturridge membuktikan yg itu bukan satu masalah dan beliau masih mmpunyai finishing yg berbisa walaupun selepas direhatkan selama 5 bulan. Pass yg baik dr coutinho , yg dh lama gatal kaki nk assist sturridge semula , tepat ke kaki sturridge. world class first touch mengarahkan bola straight to his running path dan finishing padu terus menerjah jaring menewaskan adrian di near post.



BACK 3 DAN MIGNOLET

Dengan mignolet mendaftarkan clean sheet ke-8 dalam liga dan ketiga berturut-turut , kredit juga perlu diberikan pada back 3 liverpool yg semakin mantap. Walaupun diasak teruk dengan fizikal pemain west ham terutama emre can yg berkicap disiku carroll , west ham masih gagal menjaringkan gol. Mignolet juga dilihat semakin tenang dan boleh dikatakan sudah mula mendapat keyakinan beliau semula. Positioning beliau juga bertambah baik. Conceding 7 corner kicks menentang team yg suka cari gol dari set pieces adalah sgt risky. Tapi liverpool mampu bertahan dgn baik dan mmbuktikan bahawa dh byk improvement defensively. Tahniah.



Secara keseluruhan , satu game yg seronok ditonton dan byk positive outcomes. Still ada sikit2 minor problem tapi BR dh on to them kot sbb tgk dh byk ambik notes dh tadi. See you guys utk next game pulak

Liverpool and Everton drew 0-0 at Goodison Park on Saturday, in what was one of the more forgettable Merseyside derbies between the two in recent times.

Premier League – Goodison Park – Saturday, 7th February 2015

Pre-Match

There was just one change from the side that beat Bolton Wanderers 2-1 in the FA Cup on Wednesday evening, with exciting prospect Jordon Ibe coming in for Lazar Markovic. Steven Gerrard started what is likely to be his final ever game against the Toffees, while Daniel Sturridge began proceedings on the substitutes’ bench.

Brendan Rodgers‘ side were looking to build on their excellent recent form, and the 224th Merseyside derby was sure to be as evenly contested as ever.

It was 3-3 in the same fixture last season; could the Reds pick up all three points this time around?

First-half

Raheem Sterling almost stole in after seven minutes but could only fire wide, and Gerrard tested Joel Robles with a free-kick shortly after.

Lucas Leiva, so important to Liverpool in recent weeks, left the pitch through injury after 15 minutes, with Joe Allen replacing the Brazilian.

It was fairly even in the opening 25 minutes, with neither side creating a huge amount of note. The Reds enjoyed two thirds of the possession.

Ibe was denied a sensational goal, hitting a thunderous effort against the post after an excellent run. It would have been one of the great derby goals.

Coutinho’s dipping long-range effort was dealt with by Robles, and it was the last action of note before the break. At half-time it was goalless.

Second-half

There were no changes at the interval, as both sides looked for victory and bragging rights.

Sterling was twice denied by Robles, while Gerrard’s spectacular acrobatic effort was deflected over. Sturridge replaced Philippe Coutinho after 55 minutes, perhaps surprisingly.

Liverpool were completely dominant after half-time, but struggled to break down Roberto Martinez’s side. A 0-0 draw continued to look more and more likely with 20 minutes remaining, in what was an insipid contest.

Substitute Rickie Lambert had a half chance to snatch victory with six minutes left, and Simon Mignolet made a terrific save from Seamus Coleman, but a share of the spoils was probably all either team deserved on the day.

Kali terakhir beliau dibolosi ialah pada tahun baru. Beliau yg sebelum ini pernah disishkan dan Rodgers declared buat masa itu Jones adalah pilihan utama.



Setelah kecederaan Jones, Mignolet telah kembali dengan persembahan lebih bertenaga. Cuma F. Forster (Soton)melakukan lebih banyak clean sheet dengan 10.

Stalemate utk merseyside derby. Ia adalah seri ke - 4 daripada 6 game. Kegagalan lebih predatory di final third adalah masalh Liverpool walaupun ada D.Sturridge.



Everton bermain 5 defenders dengan kemasukkan Alcaraz. Jelas mereka cuma menganggap menang sebagai bonus. Negative football utk tidak kehilangan semua mata. Sedangkan Everton ada kualiti cukup untuk menang. Mungkin Martinez tak mahu badi home game berterusan cuma 3 wins daripada 13 termasuk game ini do Godison.



Mignolet mencipta cleansheet ke 10. Kali ini betul betul cleansheet atas usaha beliau kerana Sakho agak lack dan lag. Key save ketika diuji Coleman.



Gerrard contribute cuma dari setpieces dan 1 overhead kick yg hanpir menjadikan game ini lebih dramatic. Shot daripada luar agak sukar dengan compact defending yg menghalang dan mengurangkan akses secara beterusan.



MOTM : Ibe , bermain bolasepak yg cmerlang first half tetapi di second half hilang sources terutama bila Coutinho keluar.



Yang pasti ,ini adalah deservely 1 point. Cuma agak frustrate sebab Liverpool patut ambil kesempatan merapatkan diri dengan Arsenal.
