Trevor Hicks and his former wife Jenni Hicks arrive at the Hillsborough inquest on Tuesday

Trevor Hicks and his former wife Jenni Hicks arrive at the Hillsborough inquest on Tuesday

The father of two sisters crushed to death at the Hillsborough Disaster has told an inquest into the tragedy how he battled to save them.

On a harrowing morning at the inquest in Warrington, Trevor Hicks said he gave his daughters mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and chest compressions while they lay unconscious on the pitch.

Sarah Hicks, 19, and her younger sister Victoria, 15, had been standing in the central pens behind the goal on the Leppings Lane terrace for the FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest on 15 April 1989.

As a result of a crush in the stands, 96 fans died that day, and Mr Hicks said he was "shouting" to police officers as it became clear "extreme circumstances" were developing on the terraces.

Wearing a red ‘96’ commemorative badge on his suit, Mr Hicks told the new inquest into the disaster that he was standing in a different part of the terrace to his girls, while his wife Jenni had a seat in the adjoining North Stand.

Hicks said he made his way down from his position in the south-west terrace underneath the police box and found both of his daughters lying side-by-side.

Hicks said: "I was going to do everything possible and everyone else seemed to be doing that. If they had a chance, they were going to get it.

"I have always been taught that one of the last things that goes is the hearing, so I was calling their names as well, in the hope they’d know we were there.

"I was doing what I thought was best. I spent most of my time on Victoria but there was a group of us, it was a case of swapping around between the two girls, swapping who was doing mouth-to-mouth and who was doing the heart compressions."

Mr Hicks went on to describe the heat-rending circumstances under which he then had to leave Sarah in order to accompany Vicki to hospital in an ambulance.

The inquest is continuing.

Radja Nainggolan: Linked with moves to United and Liverpool

Radja Nainggolan: Linked with moves to United and Liverpool

Roma have warned suitors Manchester United and Liverpool that they're determined to hold on to Radja Nainggolan this summer.

The 27-year-old midfielder has been strongly linked with United in recent months and Liverpool are also reportedly keen to acquire Nainggolan's services.

Roma, meanwhile, are hoping to buy the 27-year-old midfielder outright this summer but have yet to reach an agreement with Cagliari, who part-own Nainggolan's sporting rights.

When asked about Nainggolan's future, Roma president James Pallotta said to the Italian press on Tuesday: "We are working every day on this.

"We want him to remain and he wants to stay with us."

Nainggolan made 30 league starts for Roma and scored five goals while setting up two more to help the Giallorossi finish second in Serie A in the 2014-15 campaign and qualify for next season's Champions League.

He arrived in Italy in 2005 to play for Piacenza Calcio.

Nainggolan then moved to Cagliari in 2010, scoring seven goals in 131 Serie A games for the Sardinian club before joining Roma on loan in January 2014.

Roma purchased 50 per cent of Nainggolan's registration rights last summer for six million euros and the player is under contract with the Giallorossi until June 2018.

Danny Ings: Set to join Liverpool on 1 July

Danny Ings: Set to join Liverpool on 1 July

Steven Gerrard believes "the talent is there" for Danny Ings to become an Anfield great after hailing Liverpool's capture of the England Under-21 striker.

But Gerrard has also asked the Liverpool supporters to be patient with the England U21 international, who will complete his move when his Burnley contract expires on 1 July, subject to passing a medical.

Ings, 22, scored 11 times for relegated Burnley last season and he is currently in the Czech Republic with England for the European U21 Championships.

And Gerrard, who is moving to Los Angeles Galaxy this summer, says he is delighted that Ings has agreed to move to Anfield.

The Liverpool great told the club’s website: “The Ings one I'm really excited about, because he can be what he wants to be. I know the talent's there, he's very young, he's fresh.

"I think if he carries on learning and developing he can become a top striker and we love top strikers, so the stage is there. I wish him the best of luck and I'm looking forward to watching him play.

"For me, the supporters just need to be patient with him. He's still very young and I'm sure he'll get eased in gently.

"He might be the type of player that needs that bigger club and does thrive on the pressure.

"He's certainly got the platform there at one of the best clubs in the world to showcase his talents.

"Hopefully he can get some goals early on which will give him the confidence that'll make him feel like he belongs there."

Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney were among the top English Premier League goalscorers in 2014/15

Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane and Wayne Rooney were among the top English Premier League goalscorers in 2014/15

Liverpool would have won the Premier League this season if only goals from English players counted.

A staggering 69 per cent of the Reds' goals came from English players, with almost one-third of those coming from Raheem Sterling or Steven Gerrard.

Liverpool will be missing talisman Gerrard next season after his move to LA Galaxy, while Sterling is subject to transfer speculation following his refusal to negotiate a contract extension at Anfield.

Despite Liverpool's impressive English goal ratio, not one player appeared in the Premier League's top five goal-scorers this season.

A revived Crystal Palace finished 10th last season - but in our table, powered by goals from Glenn Murray (7) and Jason Puncheon (6), they would have shot up to second.

Tottenham finish third in our alternative table - courtesy of 21-goal Harry Kane.

Big movers

Premier League winners Chelsea would have avoided relegation by just one point, with John Terry (five goals) and defence partner Gary Cahill (one goal) being the only English players to score for the Blues.

Relegated QPR are the biggest risers, finishing 8th in the hypothetical league - 12 places above their final 2014/15 position.

Fellow relegation victims Hull City scored the fewest league goals from English players this season, with only Jake Livermore and Michael Dawson registering one apiece.

The Tigers would have finished bottom of the Premier League, conceding 19 goals from English players and only winning one game throughout the campaign.

Sunderland, who narrowly avoided relegation this season, would have qualified for Europe if only goals from English players counted - but rivals Newcastle, who stayed up on the last day - would have been relegated, just nine of their 40 goals scored by English players.

English strikers

Spurs star Harry Kane, who is reportedly attracting interest from Manchester United, was the Premier League's top English goal-scorer with 21 goals, netting over a third of Spurs' goals during the campaign.

QPR forward Charlie Austin finished the second-highest English goalscorer with 18 goals, followed by West Brom striker Saido Berahino (14 goals).

Of the 2014/15 Premier League top four, only Manchester United would have qualified for the Champions League - thanks largely to Wayne Rooney's 12 goals.

Liverpool-bound striker Danny Ings finished fifth with 11 league goals for Burnley - accounting for nearly 40 per cent of the Clarets' goals this season.

In total, English players scored 326 goals during this season's campaign, nearly 40 per cent of all goals scored (831).

Steven N'Zonzi: Has just a year left on current Stoke deal

Steven N'Zonzi: Has just a year left on current Stoke deal

Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs want Steven N'Zonzi, Man City to lose Paul Pogba battle and Samp's Mario Balotelli bid all make Tuesday's papers.

N'ZONZI WANTED BY PREM TRIO

Steven N'Zonzi is reported to be stalling on signing a new deal with Stoke, amid claims he is wanted by Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham.

France Football claim the midfielder is being eyed up by the trio after an impressive campaign at the Britannia, where he was an ever-present and helped guide Mark Hughes' side to a ninth-placed finish.

Stoke stated over their weekend their confidence in the player signing a new deal.

However, with just 12 months remaining on his current deal, Stoke will have a decision to make should the player continue to delay negotiations in the hope of pushing through a move to a bigger club.

POGBA HAS HEART SET ON BARCELONA

Man City's hopes of landing Paul Pogba look to have suffered a blow amid reports the Juventus star has his heart set on a move to European champions Barcelona.

The Daily Mail claims the Italian double winners are yet to receive a formal offer for Pogba after City officials played down reports they'd lodged a bid of £82m for the France midfielder.

City are unlikely to open the bidding that high for Pogba, but are reportedly well aware of claims that he does favour a switch to the Nou Camp.

However, the one thing in their favour is that Barcelona are banned from making any signings until January due to a world transfer embargo, and although City have drawn up a list of alternatives, they won't give up on Pogba easily.

The 22-year-old looks increasingly likely to leave Juve this summer with manager Massimiliano Allegri saying on Monday that he won't stand in the player's way if he decides to leave the Serie A champions this summer.

City, however, might also have to fight off interest from Real Madrid, who have also declared their intentions in signing the former Man United youngster.

SAMPDORIA REMAIN KEEN ON BALOTELLI

Sampdoria retain an interest in Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli this summer following his season of struggle at Anfield.

Samp officials are reported by the Daily Mail to have told Liverpool, however, that they can only sign Balotelli on loan - and then want the Reds to pay a portion of his salary.

Liverpool are known to favour a straight sale for Balotelli - who scored scored just four times in 28 appearances for the Reds this season - but may have to settle for a loan if no interested parties come forward.

PSG UP STAKES IN CECH RACE

Paris Saint-Germain are hoping to trump Arsenal in the race to sign Petr Cech by offering the Chelsea goalkeeper a bumper £39million contract.

The Daily Mirror claims PSG are willing to pay the long-serving stopper a staggering £150,000 a week deal over five years in a bid to persuade him to move to the French capital.

Cech met with Chelsea officials on Monday where he is reported to have told them he wants to leave.

However, despite the approach from PSG, Cech is keen to remain in London with a move to Arsenal - for a fee of around £11million - looking most likely.

AND THE REST

Monaco have stepped up their interest in Everton's Kevin Mirallas

Andy Cole believes Harry Kane would struggle with the pressure of the leap from Tottenham to Manchester United

West Ham players wanted Marcelo Bielsa as their new boss and not Slaven Bilic, according to Guy Demel.

Swansea are in talks with Belgian giants Anderlecht over a £12m deal for Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Arsenal and Stoke have joined the chase for Sporting Lisbon's 23-year-old right-back Cedric - but Southampton see him as a potential replacement for Nathaniel Clyne.

Liverpool are desperate to sell Raheem Sterling so they can buy Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke and Southampton's Nathaniel Clyne.

Monaco want Chelsea midfielders Mario Pasalic and Charly Musonda as part of the deal to take Falcao to Stamford Bridge.

Harry Kane must snub a move to Manchester United to keep developing at Tottenham, according to Fabrice Muamba.

Everton will still pursue a permanent deal for Aaron Lennon despite moving to tie up a £3million transfer for Spanish youngster Gerard Deulofeu this week.

Manchester United are eyeing a bargain move for Galatasaray defender Semih Kaya.

Tottenham are closing in on a £3.5m deal to sign Burnley right-back Kieran Trippier.

Paul Clement has launched a £2m bid to take Burnley defender Jason Shackell back to Derby County.

Real Madrid are optimistic that Tottenham Hotspur will make a bid for Iker Casillas, enabling them to move the goalkeeper on and embark on a future with David De Gea as their undisputed No 1 keeper.

Manchester City are closing in on signing teenager Patrick Roberts from Fulham.

Carlos Tevez: Has one year remaining on his deal at Italian champions Juventus

Carlos Tevez: Has one year remaining on his deal at Italian champions Juventus

Juventus striker Carlos Tevez has been offered the chance to return to England by an unknown Premier League club, according to Sky sources.

But Sky Sports understand that club is not Liverpool, despite press reports suggesting Brendan Rodgers could tie up a deal for the former Manchester City and Manchester United star this week.

Tevez, who has a year remaining on his contract at the Serie A champions and Champions League finalists, has also received three offers from abroad – one of which is thought to be Atletico Madrid.

The La Liga side are keen to sign the 31-year-old, who has long been tipped to finish his career in his home country with former club Boca Juniors, with head coach Diego Simeone speaking of his desire to bring Tevez to Madrid last month.

"One always gets excited if you have players like Tevez," Simeone told Spanish sports newspaper AS when asked about  the Argentina international.

"More than the goals he can score per season, he has football running through his veins. It would be an ideal reinforcement considering the way we experience football at Atletico Madrid."

Tevez joined Juventus from Man City in 2013 for £12m and has scored 39 league goals for the club en route to claiming two Italian titles and an Italian cup.

Tevez was the subject of an infamous initial move to England when he joined West Ham in 2006 amid disputes over third-party ownership of his playing rights.

He moved to Manchester United a year later after this was resolved before another controversial move to their arch rivals City in 2009, after scoring 34 goals under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Tevez scored 73 goals for City and won the Premier League with them in 2012 his third English title.
