Reds legends Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler joined LFC’s charity, Liverpool FC Foundation, on a visit to a summer camp in Boston on Monday.

The Club Ambassadors were on hand to help coaches from the Foundation deliver a series of football coaching sessions to 400 local children at Camp Harbor View.

This is a return visit for Liverpool FC Foundation, who originally visited the camp in 2012 as part of the Club’s 2012 pre-season tour of North America.

Camp Harbor View, which has been operating for seven years, offers children aged 11-14 living in Boston’s at-risk neighbourhoods the opportunity to leave the city during the day and participate in a four-week summer camp programme.

The coaching sessions are part of the Foundations’ International Programme, which provides unique opportunities to a diverse range of individuals and community groups across the world. With support from Global partners the programme aims to establish a legacy in every country it visits by providing professional coaching clinics and educational workshops.

Once again the sessions were a big success with campers eager to learn how to play ‘The Liverpool Way.’

The Club’s mascot, Mighty Red joined in with the fun alongside Foundation trustee Linda Pizzuti Henry.

Mark Haig, Head of Operations at Liverpool FC Foundation said “The Foundation is proud to support Camp Harbor View, which is a fantastic facility that delivers great initiatives for local young people in Boston.

“Their ethos mirrors ours and I hope that we will work together again in the near future.”

Cara Gould, Camp Director, added: “The kids think they are so special because this amazing team that is world renowned came to spend time with them. It’s fabulous.

“The kids come here and we try to expose them to new opportunities. Some things are a hard sell. But when you bring Liverpool out, everyone is like: ‘OK, I’ll try soccer today’.

“Some of the kids find that they actually love it, that they are better at it than they thought or the coaches teach them some skills they didn’t know they had. All of a sudden, it’s a new opportunity that they may end up pursuing.”

Fabio Borini: The Italian forward is keen to stay at Liverpool and prove himself under Brendan Rodgers.

Fabio Borini: The Italian forward is keen to stay at Liverpool and prove himself under Brendan Rodgers.

Fabio Borini’s agent has claimed the striker wants to stay and fight for his place at Liverpool – despite the club agreeing a £14million deal to sell him to Sunderland.

The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at Sunderland and was a big hit on Wearside after a difficult first season at Anfield.

However according to reports in Italy, Borini’s agent Marco De Marchi is adamant his client’s preference is to stay with Liverpool and prove himself under Brendan Rodgers.

“He wants to remain on Merseyside,” De Marchi said. “Sunderland have made a large offer of 18 million euros to sign him, but Fabio wants to stay at Liverpool.

“His project with Liverpool started two years ago when he left Roma; he began a journey and it is a major project for him.

“He should not be judged on his first year. He was out for six months with various injuries and during the past year he took a step back by going to Sunderland and he has had an extraordinary season.

“His future? Now, after the loan, Liverpool have not told me anything. I think he will stay, he is convinced that he will play.”

Liverpool have already signed Rickie Lambert and are close to securing the signature of Loic Remy after the Frenchman flew to the US – where the Reds are on their pre-season tour – to undergo a medical.

If Borini does elect to stay at Anfield, playing time might be hard to come by with England duo Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling also in the mix.

De Marchi is confident his client can rise to the challenge and maintains he will not fazed by the prospect of fighting for his place.

He said: “(Playing behind) Sterling, Sturridge, Lambert and now Remy? At Roma he was with Francesco Totti, Dani Osvaldo, Erik Lamela and Bojan Krkic.

“He has no fear of playing alongside anyone, and for me he can play a part within any top club.”

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has decided to focus his attention solely on Liverpool for the rest of his career, following his retirement from England duty on Monday. Henry Jackson selects the 34-year-old’s 10 greatest goals for the Three Lions.

LONDON, ENGLAND - Saturday, June 2, 2012: England's captain Steven Gerrard in action against Belgium during the International Friendly match at Wembley. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Steven Gerrard has brought the curtain down on his international career, retiring from England duty having given 14 years of great service in a Three Lions shirt.

The 34-year-old Liverpool legend made his England debut in 2000, against Ukraine, and went on to make 114 appearances. Only Peter Shilton and David Beckham have more.

Although Gerrard never quite hit the staggering heights he has in a Reds shirt for England, he still produced some memorable moments. Here are his top 10 England goals; what would be your number one?

10. ENGLAND vs Poland- 2013

It may not have been the prettiest goal of Gerrard’s England career, but this strike ensured the Three Lions qualified for the 2014 World Cup.

Having played the whole game in defensive midfield, his one foray forward resulted in a goal, with the captain forcing his way through before lifting the ball over Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny.

9. Andorra vs ENGLAND (First goal)- 2007

With England embarrassingly failing to break down minnows Andorra, Gerrard’s perfectly executed strike eased the nerves to put his side into the lead.

He would score an even better effort shortly after.

8. ENGLAND vs Moldova- 2013

A routine victory for Roy Hodgson’s side over Moldova at Wembley last year saw the captain give England the lead with a trademark long-range effort.

Frank Lampard’s lay-off found Gerrard, who drilled a terrific shot into the bottom corner from 30 yards.

7. ENGLAND vs Hungary (1st goal)- 2010

Not for the first time in his long England career, Gerrard came to his country’s rescue with them struggling against inferior opposition.

With Hungary leading 1-0 at Wembley, the then 30-year-old fired home an unstoppable shot to bring the Three Lions level. More was to come.

6. Andorra vs ENGLAND (2nd goal)- 2007

Gerrard had already given England the lead early in the second-half against a stubborn Andorra side, and this fabulously worked effort doubled their lead.

The Reds hero played two one-twos in and around the penalty area, before calmly stroking the ball home to finish off a brilliant move.

5. ENGLAND vs Trinidad & Tobago- 2006

Gerrard’s first ever World Cup goal, back in 2006, was a screamer, and came just a month or so after his match-winning performance in the FA Cup final triumph over West Ham.

With England 1-0 up thanks to fellow Red Peter Crouch’s goal, Gerrard thundered a left-footed shot into the top corner to seal victory for Sven-Goran Eriksson’s side.

4. ENGLAND vs Macedonia- 2002

With Gerrard’s England career still in its infancy back in 2002, he continued to enhance his reputation as the most talented midfielder in the country with a great strike.

The young Gerrard, then 22, took the ball down on his chest before firing a superb volley straight past Macedonia’s helpless goalkeeper.

3. Austria vs ENGLAND- 2004

This goal has real echoes of a goal Gerrard would score four years later for Liverpool against Marsielle in a Champions League clash.

Gerrard saw the ball laid back into his path by former Liverpool striker Michael Owen, and he whipped a magnificent effort into the back of the net.

2.Germany vs ENGLAND- 2001

Perhaps Gerrard’s most famous ever goal in an England shirt, this was also his first for his country on an unforgettable evening.

With the scores level at 1-1, 21-year-old Gerrard rifled a stunning effort past Oliver Kahn to put Eriksson’s men 2-1 up at the home of great rivals Germany.

It was to prove the pivotal goal of the night, and a Liverpool-inspired England went on to win 5-1.

1. ENGLAND vs Hungary (Second goal)- 2010

This goal may not be a marauding, inspirational effort or a long-range stunner that we have become so used to seeing from Gerrard over the years, but the technical brilliance shown makes it his best ever for England in my book.

Having been found by Ashley Young inside the area, a superb ‘Cruyff Turn’ and quick feet in a tight area saw him evade several Hungary players before poking the ball home.

It proved to be the winning goal, having already dragged his side level earlier on in proceedings.

Gerrard is not always praised as much for his natural ability as he should be, and this goal perfectly summed up the genius in his boots.

Loic Remy has landed in Boston ready to complete his £8 million move to Liverpool, while Dejan Lovren will follow him across the Atlantic this week.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Saturday, September 21, 2013: Liverpool's Raheem Sterling and Southampton's Dejan Lovren during the Premiership match at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

REMY

Remy boarded a flight to Boston on Monday, with Sky Sports reporting that the fee could rise to £11 million.

The Liverpool Echo report that personal terms have already been agreed with the French forward.

TOURE

Heading in the opposite direction will be Kolo Toure, who is attracting interest from Turkish side Tranzonspor.

LOVREN

On Lovren, David Anderson of The Mirror writes: “The Croatian World Cup star is also expected to fly out to the US and his deal could be done in the next 24 hours.”

However, Radio Solent quote Southampton manager Ronaldo Koeman claiming that no bid has yet been accepted for the defender – that despite widespread reports on Monday saying the fee was finally agreed.

ORIGI

Belgian forward Divock Origi, whose £9.8 million move will see him loaned back to Lille for 2014/15, is also expected to make the trip across the Atlantic, according to the Press Association.

AGGER

With Lovren arriving, Toure’s future at the club, as well as Daniel Agger‘s, is in doubt. The Mirror quote the Dane as discussing his future amidst interest from former boss Rafa Benitez at Napoli: “It is no secret that I had problems last season and I am considering things. How things turned out last season is not acceptable for me.”

REUS, VIDAL, POGBA

Anderson’s report also claims that Brendan Rodgers wants a marquee signing; claiming the manager is “prepared to spend £30m on either of Juventus stars Arturo Vidal or Paul Pogba, or Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus.”

BORINI

Meanwhile, the Press Association carry quotes from Fabio Borini‘s agent claiming the Italian forward wants to remain on Merseyside. The forward has been the subject of a £14 million bid from Sunderland but seems keen to remain at Liverpool.

“He wants to remain on Merseyside,” his agent Marco de Marchi told Tuttomercatoweb.com.

“Sunderland have made a large offer of 18 million euro (£14million) to sign him but Fabio wants to stay.

“His project with Liverpool started two years ago when he left Roma; he began a journey and it is a major project for him.”

Steven Gerrard announced his international retirement on Monday, bringing an end to an England career that sees him third on the all-time list of appearance makers for his country.

The 34-year-old released a statement on the FA’s website, saying:

“I have enjoyed every minute of representing my country and it is a sad day for me knowing that I won’t pull on the England shirt again. This has been a very difficult decision, one of the toughest I’ve had to make in my career. I have agonised over this since coming back from Brazil and have spoken to family, friends and people close to me in the game before coming to this point.

“To ensure I can keep playing to a high level and giving everything to Liverpool Football Club I believe this is the right decision, and having Champions League football back at Anfield is another big factor in my decision.”

“In particular, the supporters have been amazing, not least in Brazil when they got behind the team despite the disappointing results.

“I’d especially like to thank Roy [Hodgson], firstly for giving me the captaincy permanently when he took the job, making me the proudest man in the country and allowing me to fulfil my childhood dream.

“He has been very understanding over the past few weeks and is a man I will always hold in the highest regard.”
