Liverpool’s 4-1 defeat to Arsenal was the lowest moment of the season so far, but how did each Reds player rate on the day? Here’s our assessment – you can submit your ratings at the bottom of this page.

Arsenal 4-1 Liverpool

Premier League – Emirates Stadium – Saturday, 4th April 2015

SIMON MIGNOLET (out of 10)- 7

The Belgian was one of the very few Liverpool players to come out of the game with any credit, making several terrific saves to deny Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud.

The 27-year-old was beaten too easily for Mesut Ozil’s free-kick though, having needlessly stepped to the left before being beaten on his strong side.

EMRE CAN- 6

The 21-year-old was one of the Reds’ better outfield players, performing solidly at both centre-back and wing-back.

His needless sending off late on was extremely stupid though, and means he will now miss the FA Cup quarter-final replay with Blackburn in midweek.

KOLO TOURE- 3

Toure produced one of the worst individual performances by a Liverpool player in many years, and looked completely out of his depth from start to finish.

The Ivorian lost the ball time and time again, his decision-making was appalling and he was a complete liability to his side. Nowhere good enough from the likeable veteran against his former club.

MAMADOU SAKHO- 7

The Frenchman looked shaky in the early exchanges, but he recovered well to show once again why he is regarded as such a formidable defender.

His use of the ball was typically excellent, and while others around him floundered, he did his job well on the whole.

JOE ALLEN- 4

After an impressive run of form of late, Allen produced an insipid performance more in-tune with his early days at Anfield.

The 25-year-old gave the midfield no presence whatsoever, and he neither passed the ball effectively or defended as well as he can. Very disappointing.

LUCAS LEIVA- 3.5

The only saving grace for Allen was that Lucas was even worse. The Brazilian returned from injury and looked well off the pace from start to finish.

The 28-year-old’s passing was horrendous at times, and he looked extremely ponderous and slow throughout. The kind of performance that makes you question his future.

ALBERTO MORENO- 5

LONDON, ENGLAND - Saturday, April 4, 2015: Liverpool's Alberto Moreno in action against Arsenal during the Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

The Spaniard has had an up and down time of things during his first season as a Liverpool player, and this was another game in which he flattered to deceive.

He was at fault for Hector Bellerin’s opener, allowing him to get past him embarrassingly easily, and although he made a couple of surging runs and well-timed tackles in the second-half, the damage had already been done.

JORDAN HENDERSON- 5

The captain on the day was used at right wing-back for much of the game by Brendan Rodgers, but he never looked happy there.

His pace and dynamism was missed in the middle of the park, and his general passing, shooting and decision-making was far from its best. Scored Liverpool’s goal from the penalty spot.

LAZAR MARKOVIC- 5

LONDON, ENGLAND - Saturday, April 4, 2015: Liverpool's Joe Allen, Lazar Markovic, Lucas Leiva and captain Jordan Henderson look dejected as Arsenal score the third goal before half-time during the Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Markovic was given a surprise start by Rodgers, but he never stamped his authority on the game prior to his second-half substitution.

The youngster had a wonderful chance to set-up Raheem Sterling with the score at 0-0, but fluffed his lines with a shockingly over-hit pass.

PHILIPPE COUTINHO- 5

The Brazilian had an off day against the Gunners, failing to influence proceedings and cutting a rather frustrated figure at times.

Too often the 22-year-old was guilty of not playing the easy ball, and he was also caught on the ball a disappointing amount. Looks to be running out of steam.

RAHEEM STERLING- 6

LONDON, ENGLAND - Saturday, April 4, 2015: Liverpool's Raheem Sterling looks dejected after missing a chance against Arsenal during the Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Sterling has been in the headlines all week, and although far from his best, he was still his side’s most dangerous attacking player by far.

The Englishman grew as the game went on, particularly when used on the left, hurdling tackles and winning the consolation penalty that Henderson dispatched. A fairly decent response given the negative press he has received.

Substitutes

DANIEL STURRIDGE (on for Markovic ’46)- 5

The 25-year-old tried to be too clever too often, and still looks well short of his best.

BRENDAN RODGERS- 5

LONDON, ENGLAND - Saturday, April 4, 2015: Liverpool's manager Brendan Rodgers catches the ball the Premier League match against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

The Reds boss has to be blamed for a number of selection errors. He wasted Henderson by playing him as a wing-back, and starting Toure, Lucas and Markovic, all of whom have not featured much of late, was madness in such an important game.

Referee- ANTHONY TAYLOR- 5.5-

Taylor was correct in awarding the penalty and sending off Can, but could easily have dismissed Bellerin for his foul on Sterling in the box, and Mathieu Flamini for a stamp on Allen.

Brendan Rodgers: Felt Raheem Sterling played well at Arsenal

Brendan Rodgers: Felt Raheem Sterling played well at Arsenal

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said bad defending rather than any off-field distractions were to blame for the 4-1 defeat at Arsenal.

The build-up to a match crucial in the race for Champions League places was dominated by speculation regarding the future of Raheem Sterling following his contract stand-off with the club, and Liverpool were blown away as Arsenal scored three times in nine minutes before half-time to take complete control.

Sterling won a second-half penalty, converted by Jordan Henderson, but Arsenal had the final word in a convincing display from the hosts.

Asked if the Sterling situation had played a role, Rodgers told BT Sport, "No, not really. I thought Raheem was outstanding today, in fairness the kid's done great today.

"It's not distractions, we were just poor defensively. You see from our record the last six games we haven't conceded away from home. It's just a disappointing day when you concede bad goals, you're always going to be up against it against a team that's obviously got good confidence."

Liverpool's misery was compounded by a late red card for Emre Can, adding to their defensive woes, but Rodgers felt his player had been unlucky to get a second yellow card for what appeared to be a scissor challenge, with his manager saying he had slipped.

"In all fairness, he's not that type of player," Rodgers said. "It's a wonderful surface here, but it's actually quite greasy, quite slippy with the way they water it. He's tried to reach around the back with the right foot but then slips with his left and then it looks like a scissor challenge, but I know him well enough to know he's not like that."

While Rodgers was left to acknowledge it will now be "very, very difficult" to get back into the top four, his opposite number Arsene Wenger can look up with his side going second ahead of Manchester City's trip to Crystal Palace on Monday.

"It was a very great day," Wenger said. "It was an important game today. We had the chance to make a difference with Liverpool and we took the chance."

Hector Bellerin stunned Liverpool when he cut inside to open the scoring in the 36th minute, swiftly followed by Mesut Ozil's free-kick and Alexis Sanchez's strike, with Olivier Giroud capping the afternoon late on.

"It was a first half of quality on both sides," Wenger said. "I must say Liverpool played well, it was start with big intensity. Their keeper kept them in the game and then they had a good chance before we scored but we were focused, clinical, and I think if you look at the table and see the number of goals we score it's no coincidence."

Raheem Sterling: Liverpool forward had a quiet game at Arsenal

Raheem Sterling: Liverpool forward had a quiet game at Arsenal

Jamie Carragher feels a top-four place in the Premier League this season may now be beyond his former club Liverpool.

The Reds were beaten 4-1 at Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime and sit five points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, who can extend that gap even further if they beat Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

Liverpool were beaten at home by United in their previous game and Carragher – who made 737 appearances for the Anfield club – believes they may now not qualify for the Champions League, a situation which adds to the pressure on their FA Cup quarter-final replay with Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday.

The former Liverpool defender posted on Kicca: “Top 4 looks like it's gone for Lfc which makes Wednesday at Blackburn even bigger.

“I as a player would take a trophy over CL qualification but that goal looks more difficult with the suspension of Can & Skrtel & the performances of the other defenders today."

Carragher also reckons Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers may have to move away from his preferred 3-5-2 formation for the Blackburn tie as Emre Can will now serve a one-game suspension for his red card at Arsenal.

Can is joined on the missing list by fellow centre-backs Martin Skrtel, who still has two games left of his own ban to serve, and Dejan Lovren, who is out with an abdominal injury, meaning Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Toure are the Reds' only available players for those positions.

“Rodgers may have to change the system to a back 4 as he did for the 2nd half today as defeat at Blackburn doesn't bear thinking about!” Carragher said.

Arsenal celebrate Ozil's free-kick on 40 minutes.

Arsenal celebrate Ozil's free-kick on 40 minutes.

Arsenal dealt Liverpool’s top-four hopes a substantial blow with an emphatic 4-1 victory at the Emirates Stadium.

Three goals in the final eight minutes of the first half stunned Liverpool as Hector Bellerin’s curled strike on 37 minutes, Mesut Ozil’s exquisite free-kick three minutes later and Alexis Sanchez’s thunderous effort on the verge of half-time took the game away from Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Jordan Henderson converted a penalty 15 minutes from time after Raheem Sterling was brought down by Bellerin but Emre Can’s dismissal for a second bookable offence 10 minutes later all-but ended the contest.

Olivier Giroud bagged his seventh strike in six Premier League games in stoppage-time with a well-taken, left-footed effort as Arsenal moved up to second in the table.

The result, which leaves Arsenal four points behind leaders Chelsea, is the Gunners’ seventh consecutive league victory as well as their seventh consecutive win in all competitions.

Liverpool, who suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time since November, remain fifth, five points adrift of Manchester United having played a game more.

Despite the recent scrutiny surrounding his contract negotiations, Brendan Rodgers started Sterling, but it was the absence of captain Steven Gerrard and Martin Skrtel, who both started three-match bans, which had the greater impact as the visitors made a nervy start.

Santi Cazorla drew a fine save from Simon Mignolet with just three minutes on the clock and the Belgian was called into action two minutes later to deny Aaron Ramsey after Kolo Toure was dispossessed. The Ivorian, however, was on hand to atone for his initial error as he denied Cazorla converting the rebound.

Having weathered the early Arsenal onslaught, Liverpool began to dictate the pace of the game and created two gilt-edged chances to take the lead.

After being put through on goal by Philippe Coutinho, Lazar Markovic opted to square the ball to Sterling but his pass was ill-judged and over-hit allowing Arsenal to clear.

Sterling then squandered a chance himself as he dragged a shot past the target having done well to shake off Laurent Koscielny’s challenge.

Having kept his side in the game in the opening exchanges, Mignolet was helpless as Arsenal struck three times before the break.

First Bellerin cut in off the right flank, stepped inside Alberto Moreno’s weak challenge before producing a fine left-footed strike to break the deadlock.

It was two three minutes later as Ozil, who returned to the starting line-up after recovering from illness, found the same corner of Mignolet’s goal with a stunning free kick from 25 yards.

Sanchez blasted Arsenal’s third in emphatic style on the stroke of half time as his half-volley whistled past Mignolet before nestling in the back of the net.

The Gunners created the first clear chance of the second half ten minutes after the interval but Mignolet was on hand to palm Giroud’s effort over.

His opposite number, David Ospina, was called into action for the first time two minutes later as Can’s near-post effort was tipped out for a corner.

Liverpool were then handed a glimmer of hope when referee Anthony Taylor penalised Bellerin for a clumsy foul on Sterling, and Henderson's strike from 12 yards escaped Ospina’s clutches.

But hopes of a comeback were dashed when Can, who had seen yellow for a challenge on Cazorla and subsequent dissent, lunged in on substitute Welbeck and was sent from the field.

Giroud was not to be denied as he rifled home the fourth from the edge of the area in the closing stages.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers denied that a week of off-field distractions took their toll as his side crashed to a 4-1 defeat at Arsenal.

Video via Youtube user SMTM: Football

The build-up to a match crucial in the race for Champions League places was dominated by speculation regarding the future of Raheem Sterling following his contract stand-off with the club, and Liverpool were blown away as Arsenal scored three times in nine minutes before half-time to take complete control.

Sterling won a second-half penalty, converted by Jordan Henderson, but Arsenal had the final word in a convincing display from the hosts.

Asked if the Sterling situation had played a role, Rodgers told BT Sport, “No, not really. I thought Raheem was outstanding today, in fairness the kid’s done great today.

“It’s not distractions, we were just poor defensively. You see from our record the last six games we haven’t conceded away from home. It’s just a disappointing day when you concede bad goals, you’re always going to be up against it against a team that’s obviously got good confidence.”

Liverpool’s misery was compounded by a late red card for Emre Can, adding to their defensive woes, but Rodgers felt his player had been unlucky to get a second yellow card for what appeared to be a scissor challenge, with his manager saying he had slipped.

“In all fairness, he’s not that type of player,” Rodgers said. “It’s a wonderful surface here, but it’s actually quite greasy, quite slippy with the way they water it. He’s tried to reach around the back with the right foot but then slips with his left and then it looks like a scissor challenge, but I know him well enough to know he’s not like that.”

While Rodgers was left to acknowledge it will now be “very, very difficult” to get back into the top four, his opposite number Arsene Wenger can look up with his side going second ahead of Manchester City’s trip to Crystal Palace on Monday.

“It was a very great day,” Wenger said. “It was an important game today. We had the chance to make a difference with Liverpool and we took the chance.”

Hector Bellerin stunned Liverpool when he cut inside to open the scoring in the 36th minute, swiftly followed by Mesut Ozil’s free-kick and Alexis Sanchez’s strike, with Olivier Giroud capping the afternoon late on.

“It was a first half of quality on both sides,” Wenger said. “I must say Liverpool played well, it was start with big intensity. Their keeper kept them in the game and then they had a good chance before we scored but we were focused, clinical, and I think if you look at the table and see the number of goals we score it’s no coincidence.”

Arsenal 4

Liverpool 1

Persembahan yg cukup naif dan mediocre. Arsenal ada segala hak dan selayaknya menang.

3 gol dari jarak jauh adalah membuktikan ia adalah masalah teknikal, positioning dan intensity untuk bersaing. Bersaing?

YES! KITA tak kompetitif langsung dari semua segi . Kualiti passing, fokus, tactical , technical semua di belakang Arsenal. Terutama pada first half.

Please bank in now Mr. Wenger.

Defensive

Berberapa bulan lepas, Liverpool adalah pasukan defensif yg mantap tapi kali ini memang mediocre. Can ? Sekali lagi gagal mengawal disiplin. Tak dinafikan dia mungkin dah membuat yg terbaik. Sakho ? Toure ?

AttackingLine

13 shots on goal cuma 2 on target ? 1 adalah penalti. Open play cuma 1 saja. Poor!

Cuma 108 hantaran di final third dan Arsenal dengan 141. Bermakna memang lose ! Liverpool grow up untuk memperbaiki possesion dan passes lebih banyak tetapi lack of action di final third.

Arsenal

They play like Arsenal vs Liverpool that not play like Liverpool. So deservedly 3 points and 4 goals.

Mereka tak lah sangat supreme pada start tapi sifat taktikal Liverpool yg sit deep membolehkan mereka grow up. Selepas gol pertama Bellerin mereka jadi superior dan merasakan Liverpool memang tak bernafsu sangat untuk mengancam kubu mereka.

DisplinArsenal.

Selepas leading 3 gol mereka lebih safe play. Daripada 60% possesion first half menjadi 49% saja di second half. Mereka tahu bila patut attack, bila patut defend.

Gunners fans ! Enjoy your wonderful day and year 2015. The best team win !

To my fellow Liverpool fans ! DONT LET OUR TEAM WALK ALONE ! kalau meroyan sekejap tak apa cuma jangan mencarut level sakai. Chill...

Analisis taktikal dan report card akan saya cuba postkan dalam tangisan!

Liverpool were soundly beaten 4-1 by Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday afternoon, as the Reds’ top-four hopes all but disappeared in the process.

Arsenal 4-1 Liverpool

Premier League – Emirates Stadium – Saturday, 4th April 2015

Goals: Henderson pen (76); Bellerin (37), Ozil (40), Sanchez (45), Giroud (90)

Sent-off: Can (84)

Pre-match

Brendan Rodgers made three changes to the side that lost 2-1 to Man United 13 days ago, as Liverpool faced Arsenal in a Premier League game of huge importance.

Daniel Sturridge could only find a place on the substitutes’ bench, Adam Lallana missed out through injury and Martin Skrtel was serving the first of his three-match ban.

Kolo Toure came in for the Slovakian, Lucas Leiva made his return from injury in midfield and Lazar Markovic also started.

First-half

Santi Cazorla forced Simon Mignolet into a good save after three minutes, and the Belgian made an even better stop to deny Aaron Ramsey seconds later. The Gunners completely bossed the opening exchanges, and the Reds looked a shambles in defence.

Liverpool had a glorious opportunity to open the scoring in the 19th minute, but Markovic’s pass to Sterling was over-hit with the goal gaping. Coutinho also shot wide from distance, as Rodgers’ men improved after that woeful start.

It was to no avail though, as Arsene Wenger’s side went 1-0 up after 36 minutes. Right-back Hector Bellerin curled a lovely effort past Mignolet, but he glided past Alberto Moreno far too easily.

Two minutes later Arsenal’s lead through Mesut Ozil’s terrific free-kick, and Alexis Sanchez thundered home a third seconds before half-time. The Reds’ Champions League dreams lay in tatters at the break, in what has been an unacceptable display.

Second-half

Sturridge replaced Markovic at the interval, but you couldn’t help but feel it was damage limitation for Liverpool in north London.

Mignolet made a fantastic save to deny Olivier Giroud in the 55th minute, and Emre Can tested David Ospina at the other end.

The match rather predictable petered out during the latter stages of proceedings, with Arsenal happy to protect their lead and Liverpool struggling to muster any kind of fightback.

The Reds did win a penalty with 15 minutes left to play, after Sterling was brought down, and Jordan Henderson just squeezed home the spot-kick.

It proved to be nothing more than a consolation though, and Emre Can’s late sending off and Giroud’s excellent finish rounded off a miserable afternoon for the Reds.

The defeat surely ends Liverpool’s hopes of finishing in the top four this season, and they have failed to show up against both of their Champions League rivals in successive matches.

Jordan Henderson converted a penalty 15 minutes from time, after Raheem Sterling was brought down by Bellerin, but Emre Can’s dismissal for a second bookable offence 10 minutes later all-but ended the contest.

Olivier Giroud’s bagged his seventh strike in six Premier League games in stoppage-time with a well-taken, left-footed effort as Arsenal moved up to second in the table.

Santi Cazorla drew a fine save from Simon Mignolet with just three minutes on the clock and the Belgian was called into action two minutes to deny Aaron Ramsey after Kolo Toure was dispossessed. The Ivorian, however, was on hand to atone for his initial error as he denied Cazorla converting the rebound.

Having weathered the early Arsenal onslaught, Liverpool began to dictate the pace of the game and created two gilt-edged chances to take the lead.

After being put through on goal by Philippe Coutinho, Lazar Markovic opted to square the ball to Sterling but is pass was ill-judged and over-hit the pass and Arsenal cleared.

It was two three minutes later as Ozil, who returned to starting line-up after recovering from illness, found the same corner of Mignolet’s goal with a stunning free kick from 25 yards.

Sanchez blasted Arsenal’s third in emphatic style on the stroke of half time as his half-volley whistle above Mignolet before nestling in the back of the net.

The Gunners created the first clear chance ten minutes after the interval but Mignolet was on hand to palm Giroud’s effort over.

His opposite number, David Ospina was called into action for the first time two minutes later as Emre Can’s near-post effort was tipped out for a corner.

Liverpool were then handed a glimmer of hope when referee Anthony Taylor penalised Bellerin for a clumsy foul on Sterling, and Henderson strike from 12 yards escaped Ospina’s clutches.
