Brendan Rodgers today backed Jose

Enrique to prove why he has all the

attributes to become one of the finest

left-backs in the Barclays Premier

League.

The Reds boss believes the Spaniard is

continually demonstrating his resolve to

improve on a daily basis at Melwood and

feels he can prove he has what it takes to

become one of the division&039;s leading full-

backs.

"Jose has been playing with a little bit of

an injury, but he&039;s still been showing his

determination and pride for the team,"

Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.

"He has all the attributes to be one of the

best left-backs in the Premier League.

"He&039;s a threat when he goes forward and

defensively he&039;s very difficult to beat.

"The great thing is that Jose is always

working at his game. He appraises

himself honestly when we have chats.

He&039;s one who is looking to improve his

game and his passing.

"There&039;s no doubt that on his day he&039;s

one of the best in that position in this

country."

Luis Suarez has revealed that he is very self-critical and hopes to have turned a corner in his life.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Saturday, October 5, 2013: Liverpool's Luis Suarez in action against Crystal Palace during the Premiership match at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

The Liverpool striker had a string of controversial on-the-pitch incidents, the most recent being a bite at Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic in a Premier League match back in April.

But the 26-year-old says he feels much calmer when playing since his return and hopes to continue “not the same as before”.

“I am aware that in recent matches that I played I’ve been calmer,” he is quoted in the Belfast Telegraph as saying.

“I am very self-critical and I realised that playing well, with more tranquility, is helping me a lot.

“I realise and I prefer to continue and not be the same as before.”

Suarez is currently on international duty with Uruguay after celebrating the birth of his second child and first son.

He appeared on the Anfield pitch with 10-day-old baby Benjamin before Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace.

“In England it is not common and the first club people told me I was not going to go with them but I told them that my children were going to come with me, like it or not,” he told reporters who greeted his arrival at Montevideo airport in comments reported in Uruguayan newspaper El Pais.

“They understood in the end and it was a nice moment, a unique moment for me.

“They (family) make me think hard and calm me. Nowadays I think a lot of them when I’m on the field.

“I wanted my son to live as I do. I suffered a lot as a child and I do not want my children, or any other child, to experience the circumstances as I did.

“As a parent I try to give them all the love in the world and all the best.”

Uruguay face crucial World Cup qualifiers away to high-altitude Ecuador on October 11th and at home to Argentina four days later.

Liverpool are still pursuing the potential signing of 18-year-old Derby County midfielder Will Hughes, according to reports today.

The highly rated England Under-21 international has started the season well for the Rams, who welcomed new manager Steve McLaren to Pride Park last week.

The Liverpool Echo report today:

Liverpool are leading the chase for Hughes, with the attacking-minded midfielder already been compared with Reds captain Steven Gerrard.

Speaking after Derby’s 3-1 victory over Leeds Utd in the Championship on Saturday, McLaren admitted it will be hard to keep Hughes away from interested Premier League clubs.

He told Sky Sports, “Our job is to make sure he makes it.

“Eventually he will be too good. What we need behind that is players coming through to replace him.”

Meanwhile, Luis Suarez‘s international teammate Edinson Cavani has opened his big mouth again by claiming the Reds’ number 7 is waiting for an offer from Real Madrid.

Suarez was not allowed to leave Anfield this summer by a defiant Liverpool board, and has started the season well following his comeback from suspension.

Cavani believes Suarez would not have been happy with a move to Arsenal, saying he was holding out for Spanish giants Real Madrid – who had their eye on Gareth Bale all summer.

“I am sure Liverpool fans are very happy Luis stayed – he will be a big player for them,” Cavani said in the Liverpool Echo.

“I think Arsenal was not Luis’s dream move, maybe if it had been Real Madrid then it would have been a different outcome – but of course Madrid were concentrating on a different target this summer. It is his dream club – and a club he thinks is worth waiting for.”

Former Liverpool captain John Barnes has expressed his desire to join other club legends at Anfield as the club continues to build for the future.

Robbie Fowler, Steve McManaman and Rob Jones are all now working with young players at the club’s youth academy, whilst Kenny Dalglish was appointed a non-executive Director at the weekend.

Barnes said he would relish the opportunity to work in a ambassadorial role “to protect the brand of the club”.

“I would most definitely take the job. I played for Liverpool and working there would be a great way for me to show my appreciation to the club,” Barnes told Goal.com.

“It is the modern truth that we now lack legends that can identify with the club.

“I feel that being part of the system would benefit the club a lot since I understand the culture.

“The reality is that players come and go, but the club remains and that is why it is important to always protect the brand of the club.”

Barnes made 407 appearances in his time at Liverpool, after signing from Watford in 1987.

He scored 108 goals for the Reds and won 79 international caps for England.

Oh how quickly things change at Liverpool FC. From a manager merry-go-round and questionable ownership issues to the excited chatter around the fields of Anfield Road that the golden sky may not be too far off.

First team: On-form and entertaining

Liverpool’s opening seven games of the new Premier League season has seen the Reds keep up with the league’s best. It has been a brilliant start by all accounts by Brendan Rodgers‘ men with 5 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat.

Luis Suarez is back from suspension and looking at his best-ever, whilst Daniel Sturridge has formed a formidable partnership with the Uruguayan and already bagged 8 goals himself.

Simon Mignolet has been outstanding in Liverpool’s goal, making the switch from Pepe Reina‘s 8 years there appear seamless.

At the back Liverpool have a plethora of top quality options for a variety of defensive formations, including the enigmatic and infectious energy of Kolo Toure.

Liverpool Ladies are Champions of England

Liverpool Ladies made history at the end of September by winning the FA Women’s Super League on the final day of the season.

It was a superb season for Matt Beard’s new-look Ladies team, which reaped the benefits of added whole club support, both financially and from winning new fans.

The Ladies lifted the WSL trophy in front of a home crowd at the Halton Stadium in Widness with captain Gemma Bonner hailing the ‘one-club’ policy: “They have adopted a one-club philosophy and have really embraced us into that. It has helped us training-wise, we have improved as players and the contact time we have been able to have with each other. It has shown on the pitch.”

Liverpool Under-21s

Alex Inglethorpe is making Liverpool’s Under-21 side tick. Three victories on the trot against Sunderland, Manchester City and Tottenham have seen the Reds look in impressive form.

The side has allowed the likes of Adam Morgan and Brad Smith shine, as well as being a place for new signings Aly Cissokho and Tiago Ilori to find their feet on Merseyside.

Monday night’s 5-0 demolition of Tottenham U21s at Langtree Park in St. Helens was arguably the U21′s most exciting performance yet with Morgan, Cameron Brannagan, Ryan McLaughlin, Smith and Joao Carlos Texeira all getting on the scoresheet.

The King has returned

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Tuesday, March 13, 2012: Liverpool's manager Kenny Dalglish before the Premiership match against Everton at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

His third return to Liverpool Football Club in recent years, and this time, as a non-executive Director.

Kenny Dalglish’s involvement at the club can only be a good thing as he looks to oversee future strategic development of the club on all levels.

Similar to models seen at Bayern Munich and Barcelona in which club legends take ambassadorial roles within the club, Dalglish lifts spirits amongst fans and players and gives the future generations a role model to aspire to.

Justice is coming

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Friday, April 15, 2011: Scarves and floral tributes left at the Shankly Gates at the Memorial Service to remember the 96 victims of the Hillsborough Stadium Disaster in 1989. (Photo by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Whilst news of further cover-ups regarding policing and liability at Hillsborough in 1989 continuing to be uncovered is distressing, there is a feeling that finally, at last, justice is coming.

Fresh evidence – both in statements, witness interviews and police records – are being handed over for the new inquest into the disaster.

In Parliament last month, Prime Minister David Cameron called for the process to begin with urgency so as to finally bring those responsible for the disaster to justice.

He said, “I think that trust isn’t built in a day or from one step but it’s a long process and it’s a very painful process for victims. Another inquest is a very painful process, a very difficult process, but it’s right and we must get on with it.”

Liverpool’s Under-21s swept aside Tottenham U21s in style on Monday night at Langtree Park in St Helens.

Brad Smith 3-0

More videos to follow.

A first half penalty from Adam Morgan was followed by goals from Cameron Brannagan, Ryan McLaughlin, Brad Smith and Joao Carlos Texeira.

Summer signing Aly Cissokho played the whole game, his first action since recovering from an ankle injury picked up last month for the first team.

McLaughlin won the penalty from which Morgan scored the Reds’ first of the night, before Brannagan ran onto a lovely dinked through-ball from Cissokho to finish neatly for Liverpool’s second.

McLaughlin grabbed the third, putting away a low Smith cross, before Smith fired home from long range – an impressing strike as the Reds ran away with the game.

Second half substitute Texeira scored with his first touch of the game to make it five and even had time to put Samed Yesil through shortly before the end, but the German hit the woodwork.

Liverpool U21s: Ward, Flanagan, Rafael Paez, Wisdom, Cissokho, Roddan, Rossiter, Brannagan (Teixera), Smith (Yesil), Morgan, McLaughlin (Peterson).
