Raheem Sterling: Contract talks have reportedly stalled

Raheem Sterling: Contract talks have reportedly stalled

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists he is "relaxed" about Raheem Sterling's contract situation despite reports the latest talks have failed to find a solution to a long-running impasse.

The club have tabled what a couple of weeks ago Rodgers described as an "incredible" offer - reported to be in the region of £100,000 a week.

A few weeks before that the Reds boss had suggested an agreement was imminent but latest reports suggest there has been no movement in negotiations.

Sterling only signed an improved contract in December 2012 and his current deal does not expire until 2017, which is why Rodgers is content to play a waiting game.

"There is nothing new to report on it. I am quite relaxed about Raheem's situation," said Rodgers.

"He is not going anywhere in a hurry - he has still got this season and another couple of years to go on his contract.

"I think it is quite obvious when you look at Raheem's situation anyone with Raheem's best interests would see Liverpool as the best option for his career.

"He turned 20 in December and he has made 114 appearances, which is a remarkable amount at a club of this size to be given that opportunity.

"He has made it clear himself that he loves being here and I think he was quoted as saying this is the best place for any young player to develop, so that makes me quite relaxed.

"I am sure the club and his representatives will find the solution for that."

PenjelasanRingkas

Ramai antara peminat Liverpool tak faham kenapa Liverpool nak Sterling sign kontrak sekarang. Pada dasarnya , ia tak masih dikira awal tetapi FSG mahukan jaminan lebih awal iaitu seal the deal !

BosRelaxs

Brendan Rodgers pula berkata dia "relaxs" tentang isu kontrak Raheem Sterling, walaupun khabar angin bahawa rundingan lanjutan itu menghadapi jalan buntu.

No one is bigger than A Club!.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists he is "relaxed" about Raheem Sterling's contract situation despite claims that the latest discussions have failed to find a solution to a long-running impasse.

Rodgers has previously suggested the club would not be held to ransom by Sterling's agent and said the contract offer they had made was more than fair for a player of the England international's age and potential.

Asked why he thought a deal had not been agreed yet, the manager said: "I'm not sure. It is not in my area really.

"I speak to Raheem about his football and concentrate on his football and see what goes from there."

Sterling and Jordan Henderson, who has been captaining the side in the absence of the injured Steven Gerrard, are the two players whose contracts appear to be taking most of the headlines.

However, with Liverpool closing in on a top-four place and having one eye on a possible FA Cup final, it is imperative they do not allow off-field issues to distract them.

Rodgers is confident neither player will drop their standards as he believes they are both focused on the job in hand.

"These are two players who want to ensure they are here for the future," he added.

"The model of this club is to develop the talent and create world-class players and then, of course, it is important we keep those – especially when they are here already – and that is something we are working hard to do.

"The players are working well, they are concentrated, and that side of it they have to leave to their representatives and the club so we'll just focus on the football.

"It is never easy but there are players, with all due respect, in League Two and League One who are working on six-month or one-year contracts.

"It is a lot more insecure at that level than it is at this level so I am sure they will cope fine knowing they have two or two-and-a-half years left on their deals."

Liverpool will have to watch the race for the top four develop without them this weekend as they do not play until Monday when they travel to Swansea.

The squad has been boosted by the return of Gerrard from a hamstring problem which has sidelined him for seven matches while Martin Skrtel, after his head injury last weekend against Blackburn in the FA Cup, and midfielder Joe Allen are both fit. Defender Jon Flanagan has also returned to training after a long-term knee problem.

Swansea manager Garry Monk feels his former boss Brendan Rodgers is capable of managing Barcelona or Real Madrid one day.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Monday, December 29, 2014: Liverpool's manager Brendan Rodgers and Swansea City's manager Garry Monk during the Premier League match at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Monk crosses swords again with Rodgers at the Liberty Stadium on Monday night having lost all three of his previous meetings with the Liverpool manager and the Northern Irishman’s stock at Anfield is rising rapidly again.

Liverpool have gone 12 games unbeaten in the Barclays Premier League as they close in on a top-four spot which would secure Champions League qualification for the second successive year after almost ending the club’s 24-year wait for the title last season.

It is a far cry from the autumn when Liverpool were struggling to emerge from the post-Luis Suarez era at a time when Daniel Sturridge was injured and they lost four successive games in both league and cup.

But the upturn in their fortunes has led to reports that Manchester City are making admiring glances towards Merseyside and, asked if Rodgers was equipped to manage Barcelona or Real sometime in the future, Monk replied: “Yes, he can manage at the top, for sure.

“He’s got the knowledge, know-how and capabilities in man-management. He’s got the package to do it at the elite of Europe.

“Whether that’s an ambition he has at Liverpool or it is an ambition to be at the really elite I don’t know.

“But I’m sure he wants to take Liverpool to those heights again.”

Rodgers admitted earlier this month that he feared the sack at Liverpool prior to changing the formation to three at the back which sparked their climb up the table.

But Monk, club captain at Swansea when Rodgers steered the Welsh club into the Premier League in 2011 via the Championship play-offs, says that would have been a foolish move and applauds his courage to change a system which had proved so successful last season.

“I’ve spoken to him about it and the pressure at the bigger clubs is constant but I think he handles it very well,” said Monk, who remains in regular contact with Rodgers.

“Transition’s never easy, especially after a fantastic season, and just missing out on that title will have knocked the confidence of the players initially.

“It takes time to get that confidence back but he’s done that and he also had quite an influx of players in the summer.

“All credit to Brendan for having the bravery to change it to what players probably weren’t used to. He did it at a period where it could have been a risk but it’s paid dividends.”

Liverpool’s renaissance has taken them to within two points of fourth-placed Manchester United and Monk feels they will improve still further if they qualify for the Champions League again.

“I know he was disappointed with the Champions League this season but if they can push on and get in there again I think they’ll do better next year,” Monk said.

“He’s evolving as a manager and he’s obviously more confident in his own ability than when he was at Swansea.

“That comes with going to a big club, being on a big stage and performing there.”

Garry Monk praises “elite” level Brendan Rodgers

Isu Barclays Player dan Manager Of the Month

Saya tak rasa kemenangan Kane sesuatu yg sangat arguable kerana dia dan Coutinho paling layak. Tetapi ada point untuk Kane memenanginya.

Cuma Bila Pulis menang ! Ini yg saya rasa pelik. Saya tak bias , tapi dengan Undefeated run 2015 ! Rodgers adalah no contest sepatutnya.

Tahniah Harry Kane.

Raheem Sterling: Contract talks have reportedly stalled

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists he is "relaxed" about Raheem Sterling's contract situation despite claims that the latest discussions have failed to find a solution to a long-running impasse.

DISCIPLINE : AVERAGE

DURABILITY : GOOD

VISION : VERY HIGH

FREEKICK : EXCELLENT

TACKLING : LOW

SPEED : LOW

SHOOTING : GOOD SEBAGAI CAM

CREATIVITY : HIGH

Ulasan.

Ini adalah tipikal pemain yang diinginkan semua. Memiliki kepakaran set pieces.

My valuation :

With Javier Manquillo having been cast aside over recent months and his Reds future looking bleak, Ben Twelves asks what next for the Spanish right-back.

After an impressive start to his Liverpool career, Javier Manquillo’s time at Anfield has come to an abrupt stand still.

Beginning his Reds tenure promisingly, looking the answer to Liverpool’s problematic right-back spot following his arrival on a two-year loan move from Atletico Madrid, the Spanish right-back has found his chances limited since the introduction of the new formation.

This has naturally raised question marks over his future on Merseyside, so what next for the 20-year-old?

Performances This Season

A defensively minded full-back, Manquillo took no time in making the right-back spot his own as he started six of the Reds’ first seven Premier League games, albeit Glen Johnson being injured probably helped there.

manquillo_2

Missing only for Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat at Man City, the 20-year-old impressed – with his defensive solidity almost something of a luxury having replaced Johnson – leading to calls from some sections of the fan base to turn his move in a permanent one.

Good pace, reading of the game and excellence when tasked one-vs-one saw Manquillo quickly establish himself as the club’s strongest defensive full-back – illustrated as he made no defensive errors and recorded the highest tackles and interceptions per-game of any Liverpool player with 3.2 and 2.2 respectively.

While a reliable defender, the Spain under-21 international proved rather lacking offensively, but his defence-first style seemed it would provide the perfect complement to the marauding Alberto Moreno on the opposite flank.

Following the Reds slow start to the season and dreadful defeat at Selhurst Park however, Manquillo played only 45 minutes of the following six matches – the first half of Liverpool’s 3-1 win at Leicester – as Rodgers sought to turn fortunes around.

Victim of System Change: 3-4-2-1

The successful formation switch has seen Manquillo well and truly cast aside.

Since its introduction, the right-back has featured just once in the Premier League – with Rodgers choosing to deploy naturally attack-minded players at wing-back due to the defensive assurance the system brings with three central defenders.

The game he did play, however, Liverpool produced one of their performances of the season as they thrashed Swansea 4-1 at Anfield – a result aided by the balance provided at wing-back on the night by the blistering Moreno and more cautious Manquillo.

Since that last fixture of 2014, the Atletico loaned man hasn’t played a single minute of Premier League action. Featuring only three times since the turn of the year – against Wimbledon and Bolton (home) in the FA Cup, and as a sub vs. Besiktas in Turkey recently.

That Bolton game did highlight his overall lack of suitability to the wing-back role though, often too deep and not providing the usual attacking outlet that Jordon Ibe and Lazar Markovic have offered on the right side. With Johnson playing at right centre-back that game, the two of them were often too close to each other with perhaps both slightly out of position.

Anfield and Positional Future

As with a number of youngsters in the Anfield ranks, Manquillo’s continued presence on Merseyside hinges mostly on Rodgers’ next decision over formation, but the right-back also has further complexities contributing to his possible next move.

Report: Liverpool tried to sign Atletico Madrid’s Javier Manquillo on deadline day

According to Andy Hunter of the Guardian, Manquillo’s two-year loan deal allowed for two further potential transactions:

“Atletico can break the loan arrangement and recall Manquillo for a fee next summer (2015)”, writes Hunter, while the Reds can make the deal a permanent one at the end of the 2015/16 season.

These details could provide the deciding factors in any step – should Atletico refuse to fork out the fee required to take him back to Madrid, a Red he is set to stay. For another season at least.

Should that happen, Liverpool will have an excellent, reliable defensive full-back on their hands, tailor made for a four man defence, but Rodgers will also have a player who is more suited to a traditional full back role, rather than a wide-midfield position in the 3-4-2-1.

manquillo tableIt is hard to judge Jordon Ibe’s numbers after limited amount of game time, but a better comparison between Manquillo and Lazar Markovic shows the Serbian’s attacking output is far greater – undoubtedly the reason for his preferred inclusion and Manquillo’s absence.

Nevertheless, a possible relocation to right centre-back could be a potential way forward. Kolo Toure and Johnson are possible departures this summer, and with his defensive numbers impressive and ball-playing reliable, the switch could be an option – something that would allow Emre Can to return to his preferred midfield role.

manquillo table defensiveShould Rodgers stick to a three man defence next term and Manquillo fail to force his way into central defensive contention though, the consequences could result in an unfortunate early loan termination.

There appears to be little place in the squad for a defensive wide-man – Jon Flanagan also finds himself in limbo having previously been on the verge of signing a new deal – and naturally offensive players are shoe-ins for the position.

The future of Javi Manquillo at Anfield almost entirely relies on Rodgers’ next move. Should the Reds boss revisit a four man defence, Manquillo has a genuine chance to become first choice for the right back berth, but if the 3-4-2-1 is here to stay, time could already be up.

David Duckenfield: Arriving at the Hillsborough Inquest

The Match Commander on the day of the Hillsborough Disaster, David Duckenfield, has apologised to the families of the victims.

Former Chief Superintendent Duckenfield was giving evidence for a fourth day at the Hillsborough inquest into the deaths of 96 Liverpool supporters on April 15 1989.

Asked why he didn’t tell the truth for 26 years, Duckenfield said: "I'm terribly sorry. It has dawned on me what it means to you and I'm dreadfully sorry.

"I am now very much older, wiser, much more understanding and have decided to tell the whole truth."

Some families walked out of court as Duckenfield apologised, with one person heard to say: "I don't want your apology.”

Duckenfield admitted earlier on day 156 of the inquest in Warrington that he took responsibility for what happened on the day but denied being involved in the taking of blood alcohol levels of victims.

“Sir, I am the man in overall control,” he replied. “I seek guidance from people with greater experience and expertise than me. But ultimately the buck stops with me.

“The easiest thing in my position is to blame others, and I am not doing that.”

It also emerged that Duckenfield made a request for police dogs rather than ambulances, despite realising he was dealing with a medical emergency, rather than an incident of disorder.

The inquests continue.
