Raheem Sterling: Subject of interest from Manchester City

Raheem Sterling: Subject of interest from Manchester City

Manchester City will reportedly make a final £45million offer to Liverpool in order to take England forward Raheem Sterling to the Etihad Stadium.

Liverpool turned down City's follow-up bid of around £40m for Sterling last week but are now reportedly ready to submit one final take-it-or-leave-it bid for the 20-year-old.

Sterling, who has won 16 senior caps for his country, has made it clear that he is keen on a move away from Anfield but has not yet gone as far as handing in a transfer request.

Liverpool have maintained publicly that the player is not for sale and manager Brendan Rodgers insisted last month that he expected Sterling to stay for the remainder of his current deal, which still has two years left to run.

But City's chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said last week that his club are planning to heavily invest in new players this summer and it is believed Sterling tops the list of targets.

Al Mubarak said: "You will see us in the market bringing in high-quality individuals that fit within what we are aspiring to.

"We want a squad which is able and has the capability and quality to win the Premier League, to compete and win the Champions League and be able to go all the way in two cup competitions in England."

Joe Gomez in action for Charlton against Fulham last season

Joe Gomez in action for Charlton against Fulham last season

Liverpool have completed the signing of England Under-19 international Joe Gomez from Charlton for a fee of £3.5million and on a contract until June 2020.

The 18-year-old, who made 21 appearances for Charlton in the Sky Bet Championship last season, has signed a five-year contract with Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Liverpool are thought to have beaten off competition from a number of Premier League sides for the highly coveted centre-back, who has been a regular fixture through the England youth age groups.

The Catford-born teenager was part of the England U17 side that won the 2014 European Championships in Malta and is part of the current England U19 squad managed by Sean O’Driscoll.

Charlton CEO Katrien Meire insists the south London club simply couldn't stand in the way when Liverpool declared their interest in signing Gomez.

"It is with a heavy heart that we let him go, but we wish him all the best,” she said.

“Joe is a very talented and humble young man and he has proven to be a shining light for our academy and a role model for all of the young players at our club.

“He is another fine example of what our fantastic academy is capable of. Joe goes to Liverpool with our blessing and we wish him luck in what will surely be a very successful career.”

Gomez was keen to extend his thanks to everyone at Charlton, where he spent almost eight years coming up through the ranks.

"I’ve been here since I was 10 years old and it’s been a great experience,” he said. “The club have always looked after me and I will always be grateful.

“I’m excited for the new challenge at Liverpool and it’s an opportunity that I’ve only been given thanks to the experience that Charlton have given me.”

The young defender becomes the fourth Liverpool signing this summer, following the arrivals of James Milner, Danny Ings and Adam Bogdan. Belgian striker Divock Origi will also link-up with the club after being immediately loaned back to Lille following an £11m move last summer.

Gomez’s arrival could spell the end of Sebastian Coates’ Liverpool career. The Uruguayan played a key role in helping Sunderland retain their Premier League status last season and is reportedly a transfer target for Black Cats boss Dick Advocaat.

Liverpool have made a brisk start to recruitment ahead of next season and are also expected to renew their efforts to sign Southampton and England full-back Nathaniel Clyne.

James Milner: Has the support of Harry Kewell

James Milner: Has the support of Harry Kewell

Harry Kewell believes Liverpool have made a "smart signing" in James Milner - and thinks he can do "wonders" for Brendan Rodgers' side.

Milner joined the Reds on a free transfer earlier this summer after his contract at Man City came to an end.

Kewell, who won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005, was at Leeds United at the same time as Milner broke into the side as a teenager, and believes that the 29-year-old will prove a valuable asset to Rodgers's squad.

Many, however, have questioned the wisdom of paying Milner £150,000 a week, but Kewell thinks the player will prove an astute signing.

"I think it's a good signing," Kewell told the Reds' official website. "James obviously came through when I was at Leeds and I always knew he had that kind of talent. He's got that grit between his teeth, first and foremost. He's got that hunger and desire.

"Obviously, when he left Leeds, he played for a few other teams and he did well, but he didn't get to the potential that I thought he could have done.

"But then going to Manchester City, he kind of just rose up that little bit more and put his name back up there to being one of the best England players again.

"For Liverpool to snatch him up, I think he's going to do wonders.

"I think he can come in there and get respect straight away off the players because he's been there and done it - he's won titles, so he knows what it takes. I think that's a smart signing by Brendan to bring in, to hopefully help the team."

Roberto Firmino: Liverpool reportedly keen to sign Brazilian star

Roberto Firmino: Liverpool reportedly keen to sign Brazilian star

Liverpool hope to beat Man United to Roberto Firmino, Arsenal want William Carvalho and will pay Petr Cech £100,000 a week, say today's papers.

LIVERPOOL STEP UP FIRMINO CHASE

Liverpool are reportedly weighing up an 11th-hour bid to snatch Brazil star Roberto Firmino from under Manchester United's noses.

The exciting Brazilian star has already indicated his willingness to move to the Premier League this summer, amid reports United have had a £13.1million bid accepted by his club, Hoffenheim.

But the Reds have monitored the 23-year-old's situation closely and are ready to make their move for a player who has scored an impressive 49 goals in 153 games in the Bundesliga over five seasons.

Liverpool are looking for a goalscoring midfielder to replace the departing Steven Gerrard - but interest from both Premier League clubs could push his value up to nearer the £20million mark.

Rodgers hopes to land Firmino and play him alongside Philippe Coutinho behind Liverpool's frontman - a system that is likely to appease the Anfield faithful.

ARSENAL MOVE FOR CARVALHO

Arsenal are reported to have tabled a £28.5million bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho - but might need £8.5m in add-ons to trigger his release clause.

The Sun claims Arsene Wenger's side have already seen a £20m offer rejected for the 23-year-old, but Sporting are in need of the cash and will definitely sell the player for as much as they can get this summer.

The Angolan-born midfield anchorman has played 13 times for his country but is currently starring for the Under-21s and played a key role in their 1-0 win over England in Thursday's European Championship opener.

CECH TO EARN ARSENAL MEGA-DEAL

Staying with Arsenal, and several morning papers claim Petr Cech is set to be made the best paid keeper in Arsenal's history with a £100,000-a-week deal.

The Chelsea star, 32, is on the brink of securing a £10million move across London from Chelsea in a deal that will see him earn more than at any time during his Stamford Bridge career.

The in-demand Cech could have earned even more had he opted for a switch to PSG, but his desire to stay in London, where he is settled, always made Arsenal favourites.

Roma are said to be interested in taking Wojciech Szczesny in the wake of Cech's imminent signing, but with David Ospina set to join Fenerbahce in a £4million deal, the Pole is likely to stay at Arsenal as back-up to Cech.

AND THE REST

Nicolas Otamendi has told friends he is "desperate" to move to Manchester United, as Valencia hold out for the defender's £35m release clause.

Watford are facing a battle to convince Genoa winger Diego Perotti to sign for the Premier League newcomers as he is unimpressed by their terms.

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has warned Manchester City they don't need to sell Paul Pogba and he wants to stay put.

West Ham are trying to convince Barcelona to let them have Alex Song for nothing after an impressive season.

Tony Pulis is waiting for the go-ahead from West Brom chiefs to make formal bids for Demba Ba and Matty Phillips.

Fulham's £12m flop Kostas Mitroglou is set for permanent move away from West London with Fenerbahce interested.

Tottenham have expressed further interest in Adrien Rabiot, who has played in midfield for France at all youth levels but has asked to leave Paris Saint-Germain.

Tottenham are eyeing an ambitious move for Monaco midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia - one of the hottest properties in Europe this summer with a host of clubs after his signature.

Abdisalam Ibrahim could make a return to the Premier League just a year after leaving Manchester City. Bournemouth and Watford both want the Norwegian international.

Arsenal's Spanish star Santi Cazorla is determined to stay at the club, and has rubbished rumours that he could be set to return to La Liga and Atletico Madrid.

Barcelona utility man Adriano is on the look-out for a new club ahead of a potential summer exit despite being 'very happy' with Luis Enrique's treble-winners.

Manchester City will launch a stunning £40m bid for Jack Wilshere if Paul Pogba rejects a move to the Etihad.

Arsenal fan and Stuttgart star Antonio Rudiger wants a move to Chelsea.

Liverpool target Dries Mertens has offers and is considering his future at Napoli.

Man Utd and Arsenal face rejection in their hunt for Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk.

Southampton still want £15m for Liverpool target Nathaniel Clyne despite the arrival of Cedric Soares.

Manchester City's hopes that a relaxation on UEFA's Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules will give them huge freedom to spend may be frustrated.

Manchester United will not be pursuing their interest in Arturo Vidal because of his recent drink and drive shame at the Copa America.

Raheem Sterling's latest laughing gas incident will not change Liverpool's £50m valuation.

Jose Mourinho is keeping Atletico Madrid waiting on their offer to swap Toby Alderweireld for full-back Filipe Luis, with the Chelsea boss prioritising other defensive transfer targets.

Paris Saint-Germain have made a £28.5m bid for Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann.

AC Milan chief Adriano Galliani says he won't leave Monaco until a deal is done for Geoffrey Kondogbia.

Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford has rejected the opportunity to discuss joining Newcastle and wants the chance to try to secure a first-team place at Stamford Bridge.

Alexandre Lacazette: Set to be offered a new contract by Lyon

Lyon are ready to offer a new deal with an annual salary of at least £2.9million to star striker Alexandre Lacazette in an attempt to keep him at the club.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed he is ready to open his wallet to keep the Lacazette at the Stade de Gerland next season.

Lacazette, who was Ligue 1’s top-scorer last term with 27 goals, has attracted attention from a host of Premier League clubs including Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool after a season in which he also provided five assists and earned the Player of the Year award.

"Alexandre wishes to be the No 1 and receive the biggest salary at the club, which is absolutely understandable,” Aulas said.

“He will earn at least four million euros a year.”

Lacazette has become a target for leading clubs around Europe after a breathtaking campaign last term, but Aulas said it would be "a strategical error" to sell the France international.

"That is why we have made him an offer that will see him become the best paid player at Lyon by far," he added.

Lacazette is currently under contract until 2018 and Aulas said that he would be consulted, along with club captain Maxime Gonalons, about potential new signings.
