Match Of The Season Preview

LIVMCI (Anfield)

2. Pertahanan

Kekuatan

Kelemahan.

Konsistensi Coutinho menjadi isu utana disini.

My View

Prediction saya

2-1 home win

Kenapa saya pilih sterling...sila rujuk rajah yg saya buat..

John Aldridge believes the club’s star striking duo can take advantage of Manchester City’s defensive frailties when the two sides meet in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Reds play hosts to Manuel Pellegrini’s side at Anfield and both teams are still in contention to win the league this campaign. Coming into this fixture, Liverpool sit on top of the table with 74 points after 33 matches, while City are third with 70 points, having two games in hand.

Brendan Rodgers‘ side are the league’s top scorers having netted 90 goals, 49 of which have come from the stellar pair of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge; 29 of them belonging to the Uruguayan international.

“With the quality they [City] have got, I can see them scoring but I really fancy us [Liverpool] to cause them problems at the other end,” Aldridge told the Liverpool Echo .

“Defensively, City are vulnerable and the best frontline in the league can capitalise on that. It will be an open game and I think there could be goals aplenty.”

“We were unlucky to lose to them at the Etihad on Boxing Day. We were on the wrong end of some poor decisions that night with Raheem Sterling wrongly flagged offside and Luis Suarez not getting a penalty after his shirt was pulled by Joleon Lescott.

“We’re going into this game in tremendous form on the back of nine straight league wins. What was only a dream a few weeks ago is now turning into a reality,” he said.

Ahead of their match against the Citizens, Liverpool are on a nine-match winning run in the league and Rodgers will be hoping to maintain the form till the end of the campaign. But Aldridge insists even if the winning streak halts on Sunday, the Reds’ focus will not be altered even though it will have delivered a significant blow to the Merseyside club’s chances of winning the title.

“The result on Sunday won’t decide the title race but it will certainly have a huge bearing on the outcome. If we win it’s firmly in our hands and that momentum can carry us home over the final four matches,” the former Liverpool striker explained.

“City have some great players and I enjoy watching them. If City win we won’t throw in the towel because they’ve still got to go to Goodison but it would certainly be difficult for us from there,” Aldridge concluded.

John Aldridge: There’ll be goals – but I back Reds to win

Liverpool host Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday in what is being billed as the club’s biggest ever Premier League fixture, and since The Reds last won the league title 24 years ago. Jack Lusby looks at 10 of Liverpool’s biggest domestic games since then.

Liverpool’s dominant French centre-back Mamadou Sakho is gearing up for this encounter just like the rest of us.

The Liverpool Echo quotes the 24-year-old in the build-up to Sunday’s fixture as full of confidence:

“Of course this could be the biggest league match Liverpool have played in 24 years, it’s a match where you win three points but it’s worth a lot more. It is a match that will place the winner in the best position to go and win the title…We play at home and have our fans behind us. We will give everything.

“Ever since I arrived at the club, since the first month, I said it. I told my team-mates that we are capable of winning the title. We have the quality and we just have to believe it. And voila… as the season progressed we saw Liverpool grow in strength playing such beautiful football. We’ve not stolen the position where we are today. We deserve it to be where we are today.”

Most importantly, the defender recognises this as the biggest league match Liverpool have played for a long time, and with that in mind here are the 10 biggest Liverpool games of the past 24 years.

Liverpool 1-0 Everton, 2008 – Anfield

Securing a vital three points in this encounter allowed the Reds to initially strengthen their grip on fourth place in the Premier League.

A single goal from Fernando Torres, taken in the seventh minute, gave Liverpool the victory as David Moyes’ men struggled without Tim Cahill and Andy Johnson.

More importantly, as a win over their Merseyside rivals, the victory put the Reds five points clear of Everton with just six games of the season to play. A loss in this fixture may well have deflated Rafa Benitez’s side and allowed their rivals one of the coveted Champions League spots.

Wimbledon 2-1 Liverpool, 1997 – Selhurst Park

Three points at Wimbledon would leave Liverpool open for a shot at the title, with Manchester United currently sitting at the top of the table.

However, falling to defeat following a Dean Holdsworth strike in the 55th minute, Liverpool relinquished any chance of competing for top brass for the 1996/97 season as United steamrollered to success.

Liverpool eventually finished 4th in the league amid a disappointing climax.

Liverpool 4-3 Blackburn Rovers, 2002 – Anfield

Eventually winning in this fixture meant that Liverpool secured 2nd place in the league.

With then England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson watching from the stands, several of Liverpool’s English talents took this opportunity to shine – none less than Emile Heskey who netted a late winner on 85 minutes.

Taking all three points, Liverpool finished above Manchester United for the first time in the Premier League, and the only time since: not the meanest feat in today’s context but a significant victory nonetheless.

Liverpool 2 – 1 Blackburn Rovers, 1995 – Anfield

A loss in this fixture, against the league champions-elect, would leave Liverpool out of the UEFA Cup spots, with Newcastle United waiting eagerly in the wings.

Liverpool manager Roy Evans fielded a youthful side, with names such as Steve McManaman, Robbie Fowler and Jamie Redknapp, bolstered by the enduring genius of John Barnes.

Things didn’t start well for the Reds, however, as Alan Shearer gave Blackburn the lead after 20 minutes. However a goal from Barnes, and Redknapp’s 90th minute strike, sealed the three points for Evans’ men.

The match ended a wholly positive affair as Kenny Dalglish’s side were crowned champions at the expense of Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United, and ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’ rang out across Anfield.

Liverpool 4-4 Arsenal, 2009 – Anfield

This frenetic encounter is one of the best Liverpool games of the past 24 years – for a neutral.

Going from 0-1, to 1-1, to 2-1, to 2-2, to 2-3, to 3-3, to 3-4, then with Yossi Benayoun’s late scrambled effort, 4-4, this encounter was breathless from the start; Arsenal’s Andrey Arshavin capped the game with a four-goal haul.

However, for the Anfield faithful this draw, whilst putting Liverpool on top of the Premier League table on goal difference, effectively surrendered the Premier League title to Manchester United as the Red Devils boasted a pair of games in hand over Benitez’s side.

Liverpool 2-2 Cardiff City, 2012; League Cup Final (Liverpool win on penalties) – Wembley Stadium

Amid a disappointing league campaign under Kenny Dalglish, Liverpool’s European hopes rested on winning this relatively easy fixture, on paper at least.

A team which – now bizarrely – featured Charlie Adam alongside Luis Suarez, struggled to get a foothold on the game from the start, and went down to a Joe Mason goal on 19 minutes, after which the Welsh side held steadfast in defence.

A Martin Skrtel goal levelled proceedings on the hour mark, setting up a tense extra-time period in which both sides scored. A dismal penalty shootout was to follow, including a dreadful effort from Adam, and Steven Gerrard’s cousin Anthony was the unfortunate party, missing the crucial spot-kick as Liverpool ran out 3-2 victors.

Charlton Athletic 0-4 Liverpool, 2001 – The Valley

With Gerard Houllier’s Liverpool side balanced precariously on the Champions League precipice, a win would be necessary to guarantee their qualification as Leeds United also had designs on the coveted third spot.

After suffering a dismal first half, with Alan Curbishley’s men holding fast against Liverpool’s attack, goals from Danny Murphy, Michael Owen, and a brace from Fowler, sealed the three points.

As Graham Barber blew the final whistle, Houllier’s Reds celebrated a priceless four-goal victory which secured their Champions League qualification and capped a remarkable treble-winning season.

Manchester United 1-4 Liverpool, 2009 – Old Trafford

Coming off the back of a huge 4-0 home victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League, this huge win against Ferguson’s side capped a dream week for Benitez and Liverpool.

After falling foul to a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty in the opening 25 minutes, goals from Torres, Gerrard, Fabio Aurelio, and an exquisite chip from full-back Andrea Dossena – yes, Dossena – heaped misery onto the Reds’ bitter rivals.

Most importantly, this allowed Liverpool back into the Premier League title race, gaining a vital foothold at the expense of United.

Liverpool 3-3 West Ham United, 2006; FA Cup Final (Liverpool win on penalties) – Millenium Stadium

Commentator John Motson called this the “best cup final of modern times”, and this is definitely one of the biggest domestic cup victories for Liverpool in the past 24 years.

Starting abysmally, Liverpool conceded two simple goals in the opening half hour – a Jamie Carragher own goal and a Dean Ashton scrambled effort following Pepe Reina’s spill – but had Gerrard to thank for a remarkable long range strike to make the result 3-3 at the death.

A resurgent Reina took over as a penalty shootout loomed, saving from Bobby Zamora, Paul Konchesky and Anton Ferdinand as the Reds won another trophy under Rafa Benitez.

Liverpool vs Manchester City, 2014 – Anfield

Despite all of these massive games, Sunday’s home game against Manchester City stands as the biggest of the lot – win this and the title is very much in Liverpool’s hands.

Jon Flanagan, as reported by the Liverpool Echo , naturally attests that this is the biggest game of his career so far: “This is definitely the biggest game of my career… Playing Manchester City at Anfield in a top of the table clash with both teams going for the title – it doesn’t get any bigger.”

Eerily, this fixture echoes a majestic 3-0 victory at Anfield over City on Flanagan’s first-team debut, exactly three years ago on Sunday.

Sakho and Flanagan, as with the rest of the squad no doubt, know winning this game is crucial, and they were surely draw on these great victories, and bitter defeats, from the past as inspiration.

Do you agree with these selections? Let us know in the comments below.

Brendan Rodgers insists Liverpool's vision of how the club should be run is more sustainable than Manchester City's template.

City have become the biggest spenders in the Premier League in recent seasons, splashing out almost £1bn in order to challenge for domestic and European honours.

The club won the title for the first time since 1968 two years ago, and have also secured the FA Cup and League Cup in recent seasons.

Liverpool have spent modestly by comparison, but have surprised many people this season by challenging City and Chelsea for the title.

City arrive at Anfield on Sunday in what could be a defining match for both teams, but Rodgers reckons Liverpool have already been rewarded for the way they have restructured the club.

Rodgers said: "This season, however it finishes, will be a great victory for the model that we've chosen to work here, which is about player development.

"Look at each individual player, looking at the players within our system, within our structure here at the academy and the club, looking at the senior players, how we can find ways to extend their careers to make them better players, and it's a model we're happy with and a model we feel will give us that sustainable success over a longer period.

"I won't disrespect what they've done because of where they were at - they've a lot of new money that's come into the club in order to gain success.

"And that money they've invested wisely in a lot of top players. In these recent couple of years it has won them the Premier League and the FA Cup, and the League Cup, so I'm sure their supporters won't be complaining.

"For us it's a different way of working. We're on a different road."

Meanwhile, ahead of the game against City, Rodgers insists that, far from being nervous, his side are looking forward to the occasion.

"It's a significant game, there is no doubt about that," he said.

"It's two teams who have done extremely well this season in their own different ways and it should be a fantastic game of football.

"We are really looking forward to it. The team is confident and it should be fantastic.

"We are enjoying it and the players are very focused. We are calm and the training this week has been outstanding, so there have certainly been no nerves.

"There is talk about pressure and different types of words to describe it but, for us, it is exciting. We are really enjoying where we are.

"It is not by accident. Over the last 20 months we have been building to arrive at what we have and we are looking to try and sustain that over a longer period."

However, while acknowledging the fixture's significance, Rodgers does not think the winners will have all-but clinched the Premier League.

"There is still a lot of work to do after this game," he said. "The finish line is still a way to go.

"For us, our focus is on the three points as, at the end of the day, that is all that comes out of the game.

"You will gain confidence, gain belief, but the three points is all we are after.

"There are five games to go and, even after this one, there are still 12 points to play for."

"Saya bukannya berusia 20 tahun," katanya.

Tactical Saturday bersama KPLM

Untuk bacaan sambil rehat ...

Match EVEARS (3-0) Goodison Park

Analisis Taktikal yang Unik

Roberto Martinez Tactical Analysis Vs Arsenal

Osman dan Barkley pula bermain role no.1o dibelakang Lukaku , bukannya Naismith. False 9 itu sendiri dah ala no 10 .

3. Wing attack

Arteta vs Osman/ barkley

Flamini yang out of form vs Barry

4. Go And Get Them

Tactical Saturday bersama KPLM

Untuk bacaan sambil rehat ...

Match EVEARS (3-0) Goodison Park

Analisis Taktikal yang Unik

Roberto Martinez Tactical Analysis Vs Arsenal

Osman dan Barkley pula bermain role no.1o dibelakang Lukaku , bukannya Naismith. False 9 itu sendiri dah ala no 10 .

3. Wing attack

Arteta vs Osman/ barkley

Flamini yang out of form vs Barry

4. Go And Get Them

p/s: swansea memang lubuk manager bagus..hehe

YNWA

As the title race hots up, PJ Vaughan looks back in the history books and finds that Bill Shankly’s Liverpool of 1963/64 were in a very similar position to Brendan Rodgers‘ Liverpool of 2013/14.

Liverpool go into what could be a title decider with Manchester City this weekend. If Brendan Rodgers guides Liverpool to the league title it will be a huge achievement for a number of reasons.

1. It has being over twenty years since we last won the league.

2. Last year we finished seventh.

3. Going from seventh to first is not usually possible without a lot of investment.

I have decided to look into Liverpool’s history to see if we have won a league in similar circumstances. I was surprised to see so many similarities between the 1963/64 season and this season.

When Bill Shankly steered Liverpool to his first league title in 1963/64 season. Liverpool had finished eighth the previous season. Liverpool finished seventh last season. In 1963/64 it was seventeen years since Liverpool had previously won the title. It currently stands at twenty four years since we last won the league.

In the summer of 1963 Shankly only signed one player (Peter Thompson). Last summer Liverpool signed a new goalkeeper and a new centre back. We also signed a few squad players and a couple of loan players but it is largely last year’s squad that is performing so well this season.

Shankly often preached about turning Anfield into a bastion of invincibility. Rodgers has talked about turning Anfield into a fortress since the first day he became Liverpool manager.

Shankly had transformed Liverpool’s playing style. He made Liverpool more attacking and preached about possession. In 1963/64 Liverpool beat teams by 5 or more goals on 6 occasions. So far this season Liverpool have beaten teams by 5 or more goals on 5 occasions.

Shankly would not change a wining side. Rodgers follows the same strategy. This is stranger nowadays as teams usually rotate their squads or pick teams to suit their opposition.

In 1963/64 the media gave Liverpool no chance of winning the league, especially after a 3-0 defeat at Sheffield United, a team Liverpool would have expected to beat easy. This season a 3-1 defeat at Hull City lead to many of the media to write of Liverpool’s title chances.

Liverpool beat Arsenal 5-0 at home in 63/64 the game turned out to be the day they were crowed champions. This season it was 5-1.

In 1963/64 the league was a three horse race between Liverpool, Manchester United and Everton. Everton and Manchester United were the two favourites with Liverpool seen as outsiders. This season it’s Manchester City and Chelsea that are the favourites with Liverpool as outsiders in a three horse race.

Liverpool beat Manchester United at Old Trafford in 1963/64. In fact they beat Manchester United 3-0 and 1-0 in 1963/64 the same as this season. The only difference it was 3-0 at Anfield and 1-0 at Old Trafford in 1963/64 opposed to 1-0 at Anfield and 3-0 at Old Trafford this season.

Liverpool defeated Everton at home in 1963/64. Liverpool also defeated Tottenham Hotspurs home and away in 1963/64 as they also have this season.

Liverpool had to play their main title rivals in the 1963/64 run in. Manchester United were the favourites to win the league as Manchester City are now. Manchester United’s main danger was a player that the Liverpool had coveted previously. Denis Law had worked with Shankly at Huddersfield but when Shankly pressed the board to sign him they refused to sign as they deemed him too expensive.

Forward to today, one of Manchester City’s principle danger men is David Silva. Rafa Benitez had urged the board to sign him when he was Liverpool but the board declared him too expensive.

Liverpool went on a long winning run in 1963/64 until they were crowned champions. They won seven games in a row before being crowned champions. This season Liverpool have already won nine in a row and might have to win a few more before they are confirmed champions.

If we do win the title this season it will because of good coaching. Rodgers has coached a squad that finished seventh last season and turned them into title contenders at the very least. Rodgers has empowered his players to believe they are winners like Shankly did 50 years previously. We all hope we win the league in May. I feel the template that Rodgers is creating very much echoes our past.

Is Brendan Rodgers’ 2013/14 echoing Bill Shankly’s 1963/64 at Liverpool?
