Pandangan anda gimana pula dech?

PJ Vaughan puts together a team of players who arrived with great expectations, but for one reason or another they didn’t work out at Anfield.

GK: Chris Kirkland

BANGKOK, THAILAND - Thailand. Thursday, July 24, 2003: Liverpool captained by Michael Owen and goalkeeper Chris Kirkland before a preseason friendly match at the Rajamangala National Stadium. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

In August 2001 Gerard Houllier signed Chris Kirkland for a then record £6M, the largest fee involving the sale of a British Goalkeeper. Jerzy Dudek was also signed on the same day. While Dudek was seen as the No.1, Kirkland was seen as the long term future. However it didn’t quiet work out like that.

Kirkland only ever made 25 league appearances for Liverpool before leaving for Wigan in 2006 after an injury plagued 5 years at the club.

RB: Markus Babbel

When Liverpool signed German international Markus Babbel in 2000 there was much excitement among the fan base. Babbel had attracted interest from a number of big clubs including Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Babbel had a good start to his career and was a key part in the treble winning team of 2000/01 when he set up a number of goals from the right-back role. Unfortunately for Babbel and Liverpool he was struck down with Guillain –Barre syndrome and missed a whole year. On his return he couldn’t force his way back into the side. In all he played 42 times in the league for Liverpool and scored 3 goals before leaving in July 2004 on a free transfer.

LB: Christian Ziege

ROME, ITALY - Thursday, February 15, 2001: Liverpool's team line up before the UEFA Cup 4th Round 1st Leg match against AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico. Back row L-R: Sander Westerveld, Dietmar Hamann, Markus Babbel, Gary McAllister, Stephane Henchoz, Christian Ziege. Front row L-R: Sami Hyypia, captain Robbie Fowler, Nicky Barmby, Jamie Carragher, Michael Owen. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Ziege was a German international that had played for Bayern Munich and AC Milan. Liverpool signed him from Middlesbrough. Liverpool became aware that Ziege had a £5.5M buy out clause in his contract and then bid that amount in August 2000. Middlesbrough were far from happy. The case ended up in court where both Ziege and Liverpool were fined.

Ziege’s career at Liverpool was littered with injuries and he only made 16 league appearances scoring once before leaving for Tottenham Hotspurs for £4m in July 2001.

CB: Phil Babb

Liverpool signed Phil Babb for £3.6M in 1994 on the back of a good World Cup campaign for Ireland. Babb went on to make 128 league appearances for Liverpool before leaving on a free in 2000. He is best known for being part of the ‘spice boys’ and for an attempted clearance against Chelsea when he collided with the post – you know the one.

CB: Neil Ruddock

Ruddock signed for £2.5m in 1993 and went on to play 115 league games, scoring 11 goals. He had impressed at Tottenham Hotspur and it was thought he would provide some defensive steel and aggression. Instead he was a hugely disruptive influence at a time when we were bringing through some very good young players.

In his time at Liverpool he was involved with an altercation with Eric Cantona on the pitch and Robbie Fowler on a plane. He seemingly broke Peter Beardsley’s jaw in a testimonial match and broke both of Andy Cole’s legs in a reserve game. He was consistently plagued with weight problems, he was cautioned for drink driving and his philandering was well documented in the papers. He provided a very bad example to the young players we were bringing through at the time.

DM: Paul Ince

When Liverpool signed Paul Ince the self proclaimed ‘guv’nor’ from Inter Milan in 1997 for £4.2M it looked like the club had made an excellent purchase. Ince was a driving force behind the early United league success under Alex Ferguson. However United decided to get rid of him in his prime. The media reported this as lunacy yet United won the double without Ince.

Ince did okay in Italy but it was soon clear his career was in decline when he lined out for Liverpool. He lasted two trophyless seasons and a seventh place league finish in his last season before departing for Middlesbrough for £1M, not wanted under Houllier.

CM: Alberto Aquilani

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Thursday, August 13, 2009: Liverpool's new signing Alberto Aquilani, who joins the club from Italian side AS Roma, with manager Rafael Benitez during a photo-call at Melwood Training Ground. (Photo by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Aquilani arrived from Roma for £17.1M 2009. He was seen as the direct replacement for the departing Xabi Alonso. The only problem was Aquilani was an attacking midfielder and not a defensive one and the second that he arrived injured. It was November before he started a first team match and while he was impressive he rarely lasted the 90 minutes. He was also competing with Steven Gerrard for the AM role and was never likely to displace Gerrard.

He spent two seasons on loan with Juventus and AC Milan who both refused to pay Liverpool’s asking price before leaving for Fiorentina in 2012.

AM: Harry Kewell

Liverpool signed Harry Kewell from Leeds United in 2003. Liverpool had to beat a host of top English and European clubs to secure his signature. Most fans saw it as a huge coup. However allegations surfaced that Kewell’s agent received £2m of the £5M signing fee.

On the field Kewell’s Liverpool career was very stop-start. He limped off in the Champions League final in 2005 but he returned the next season to have his best season for the club. His final two season were injured plagued yet Rafa Benitez still wanted him to stay. Kewell turned down a contract and left for Turkey in 2008.

CF: Fernando Morientes

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - FRIDAY JANUARY 14th 2005: New Liverpool's new signing Fernando Morientes at an Anfield press conference following his £6.3 million move from Spanish Champions Real Madrid. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Most Liverpool fans were excited when Liverpool signed Fernando Morientes from Real Madrid in 2005 for £6.3M. The Spaniard had spent the previous season on loan at Monaco and was a huge factor in them reaching the Champions League Final.

Morientes was supposed to be a world class striker but Liverpool fans rarely saw much evidence for that besides his first league goal against Charlton Athletic. He couldn’t really cope with the pace and physical side of the Premier League and left for Valencia in 2006 for £3M.

CF: Djibril Cisse

Gerard Houllier’s parting gift to the club was Djibril Cisse – a £14.5M signing from Auxerre. In days prior to YouTube I remember seeing a compilation of Cisse goals from France on TV. He scored all sort of goals and may spectacular ones from distance. Like many Liverpool fans I believed we had signed the new Thierry Henry.

It was difficult for Cisse as he was never Benitez’s signing. It was strange that the club would agree to such a big signing before sacking the manger soon after. Despite scoring on his league debut, Cisse’s Liverpool career never really took off. He suffered a bad leg break at Blackburn Rovers early into his Liverpool career and when he returned he would often be used on the right wing. Benitez clearly did not want him as a centre forward and he left for Marseille for £6m in 2007. Did win the Champions League though and scored in the shootout.

CF: Stan Collymore

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Saturday, January 6, 1996: Liverpool's Stan Collymore celebrates scoring the second of his hat-trick of goals against Rochdale during the FA Cup 3rd Round match at Anfield. (Photo by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Liverpool signed Stan Collymore from Nottingham Forest in 1995 for a then British record of £8.5M. Collymore scored all sorts of brilliant goals for Forest. On the field Collymore did well for Liverpool. He scored and created lots of goals and established a good partnership with Robbie Fowler.

However, Collymore caused most of his problems off the field. He allegedly refused to move to Liverpool and preferred to commute from Birmingham. Reports of being late for training and refusing to play in a reserves game saw Roy Evans lose patience and sold him to Aston Villa in 1997 for £7M.

We all know Liverpool are expecting a quiet transfer deadline day, but that never stopped the rumour mill. We round up the days LFC’s transfer speculation.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Saturday, October 4, 2014: Liverpool's Rickie Lambert in action against West Bromwich Albion during the Premier League match at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

So it’s transfer deadline day, the perennially anti-climactic end to the January transfer window and, despite Brendan Rodgers’ repeated claims that Liverpool are not to dip into the market at this stage, there’s a little bit inside all of us that hopes he will.

Just for the sake of it more than anything, of course.

But who are the various capricious media sources linking Liverpool with this transfer deadline day?

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Saturday, January 31, 2015: Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge scores the second goal against West Ham United during the Premier League match at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

After watching Raheem Sterling mercilessly eviscerate him at Anfield on Saturday, Rodgers has clearly decided it would be the right idea to join the bemusing transfer race for mid-table talent and West Ham United chancer Winston Reid.

The 26-year-old has garnered widespread interest from clubs as reputable as Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur this season, purely because he is a centre-back whose contract expires in the summer.

The Mirror claims that Liverpool will offer an astonishing £6.5 million for the New Zealand international.

“[Reid] rejected a new four-year deal to stay at Upton Park and now Liverpool will test the Hammers’ resolve to hang on to him.”

Let’s just say no to this one.

Liverpool look to finalise Yevhen Konoplyanka deal – but Spurs join race

Remember Yevhen Konoplyanka? The Dnipro winger the Reds so desperately pursued this time last year?

Well Rodgers decided once wasn’t enough, and according to Metro has seen fit to deal with Dnipro’s ridiculously difficult president Igor Kolomoisky once more this January.

“Liverpool and Tottenham are to set to contest a deadline-day battle for…the Ukraine winger,” reports suggest, “after [he] turned down Roma in favour of a Premier League move.”

“Konoplyanka is also set to become a free agent at the end of the season, leaving Liverpool and Spurs with the option of attempting to beat each other and the transfer deadline with a late bid, or tying him to down to a pre-contract agreement ahead of a summer move.”

It’s hard to imagine Liverpool will target another winger, what with Adam Lallana, Philippe Coutinho, Jordon Ibe, Raheem Sterling and Lazar Markovic all able to play there.

And, of course, Liverpool aren’t playing with wingers at the moment are they?

KINGSTON-UPON-THAMES, ENGLAND - Monday, January 5, 2015: Liverpool's captain Steven Gerrard in action against AFC Wimbledon during the FA Cup 3rd Round match at the Kingsmeadow Stadium. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

With Steven Gerrard leaving Liverpool for more surreal climbs with LA Galaxy in the summer, now would be the perfect time to link the club with a plethora of potential successors, wouldn’t it?

After Fabian Delph signed a new contract at Aston Villa, and when we’d emerged from our respective unhappy places, a new challenger emerged.

Hannover 96 midfielder Lars Stindl is the man for Rodgers, talkSPORT claims:

“Rodgers is keeping a keen eye on Hannover skipper Lars Stindl since his return from injury as he looks to find the man to fill [Gerrard’s] boots.”

Now how about a quickfire round-up of the more high-profile deals Liverpool have been linked with?

First up, Metro relay reports from Spanish publication El Confidencial, claiming that “Liverpool could be set for a busy transfer deadline day after they were linked with an 11th hour move for Real Madrid holding midfielder Asier Illarramendi.”

The Daily Star continue to entertain speculation that Liverpool will sign PSG winger Ezequiel Lavezzi this January.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Thursday, November 4, 2010: SSC Napoli's Ezequiel Lavezzi in action against Liverpool during the UEFA Europa League Group K Matchday 4 match at Anfield. (Photo by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

“Liverpool have been heavily linked with a £14m move for Lavezzi and the Reds had scouts in Paris watching him in action a fortnight ago,” apparently.

Then Liverpool were reportedly offered Real Madrid left-back Fabio Coentrao, according to the Express : “The Bernabeu club have contacted Arsenal and Liverpool to enquire if they want their 26-year-old Portuguese.”

The most tentative of reports, Sky Sports will be pleased…

Finally, with Liverpool notoriously low on firepower this season, it comes as no surprise that Rodgers is linked with a move for Mareille hotshot Andre Pierre-Gignac, courtesy of the Daily Star .

“[Gignac] has been in red-hot form for the Ligue 1 club this season and reports on the continent suggest Rodgers will try and beat Arsenal to his signature,” reports desperately claim.

Ligue 1’s answer to Tom Hardy, Gignac has scored 14 goals in 23 games so far this season, and is coming to the end of his contract, so shouldn’t be too expensive.

But another big, burly target man, really?

Gignac’s move reportedly hinges on whether or not Rodgers sanctions the loan move of Rickie Lambert, who is undeniably struggling in a peripheral role on Merseyside, despite the joy his surprise move from Southampton brought us all on his £4 million move in the summer.

Likely to spend the majority of the season on the bench or in the stands, Lambert will suffer even more so on the return of Daniel Sturridge.

Luckily for the 32-year-old, the same report suggests that Hull City, Crystal Palace, West Bromwich Albion and Queens Park Rangers are all interested in taking him on loan this January.

This stands as one of the more believable of transfer rumours this deadline day—could Rodgers relent and set the previously prolific Scouser free this January?

Of course, Lambert could not be the only player to leave the club on loan, with the Liverpool Echo reporting that 17-year-old academy midfielder Sheyi Ojo is set to move to Championship hopefuls Wigan Athletic today.

“The Reds are in talks with the Championship outfit over a temporary move for the 17-year-old winger.

“Rodgers believes Ojo’s development would benefit from a spell playing regular first-team football.”

This, finally, is a move we can all get behind—after seeing the benefits of a Championship loan in the development of Jordon Ibe, Ojo moving to Wigan and being awarded regular game time can only aid his progress as one of Liverpool’s most promising young talents.

It seems wrong to end on a believable transfer story, so here’s a selection of reports we’ve plucked out of the air to peddle at your whim:

Karim Benzema will finally leave Madrid in search for potential Europa League football with Liverpool, after he grew tired of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale’s bickering.

– Borussia Dortmund have decided to cut their losses and offer star centre-back Mats Hummels to Premier League sides this January, and Liverpool lead the race.

– Not content with the three suitcases of hard cash delivered to St. Mary’s in the summer, Ian Ayre will Yodel another to the south coast in an attempt to sign hardworking Southampton midfielder Steven Davis.

– Rodgers will muscle in on Real Madrid’s interest in Spurs striker Harry Kane, despite the striker just signing a new five-and-a-half year deal at White Hart Lane.

– After scoring his first La Liga goal for Sevilla, Liverpool will look to cut short Iago Aspas’ loan deal by offering a fee of £5 million, to compensate for the club’s considerable loss.

Wouldn’t it be nice?

Liverpool January Transfer Deadline Day Rumours Round-Up

Unknown   at  19:54  No comments

We all know Liverpool are expecting a quiet transfer deadline day, but that never stopped the rumour mill. We round up the days LFC’s transfer speculation.

Liverpool vice-captain Jordan Henderson believes the return of Daniel Sturridge has boosted not only their goal threat but also confidence within the squad.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Saturday, January 31, 2015: Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge scores the second goal against West Ham United during the Premier League match at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

A goal on his comeback in the 2-0 win over West Ham, after five months out with thigh and calf problems, showed just how much the Reds had missed the England striker after some costly toothless performances without him.

Sturridge’s comeback has, almost in an instant, Liverpool believing they are guaranteed at least a goal a game just like last season, when he and Luis Suarez combined to such devastating effect.

Judging by the rousing reception he got from Anfield that feelgood factor has been scooped up by fans desperate to see some decent build-up play finally get the finishing it deserves.

“It was obviously good for Dan to come on and get his goal so there were some positives,” said Henderson.

“It gives the crowd a lift when they see such a big player coming back and he never loses his movement – even though he has been out for so long – and it was a great finish with his right foot.

“He is a huge player, he has such talent and he can change a game in a couple of seconds.

“He will keep getting better and better. It is a great boost for everyone involved the club and hopefully we will kick on and get some momentum going.”

While all the focus will be on what is now happening up front, some credit should be given to what has taken place at the other end.

Three successive Premier League clean sheets were achieved for the first time since the opening month of last season and Liverpool have let in just five in seven league matches since losing 3-0 at Old Trafford in mid-December.

“The last couple of months, especially over the Christmas period into January, has been a good time for us,” added Henderson. “We have been really strong at the back, we are pressing well and the intensity is back, the pressing is like it used to be, and that comes with confidence.

“Obviously we have done work in training to be a lot more solid and the lads have taken on what the manager has said really well and there is a lot of communication when a set-piece comes in.

“We are defending really well, which is important, and they deserve a lot of credit.

“If there is any negative it is we need to be better in front of goal, we need to be a bit more clinical.

“We have some fantastic players but we have to make sure we stay solid defensively and then you have players like Adam Lallana, Philippe Coutinho, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling who can unlock defences.

“If we can carry on doing that I think we can get some good results.”

POST MATCH VERDICT AND ANALYSIS

postmatchverdictandanalysis

~By Axello

Liverpool v West Ham United (2-0)

Anfield&064; 31.1.2015

&039;Reds Reviving The European Spot Hunts&039;

West Ham Pressuring Early.

Emre Can Markovic.

Markovic melakukan

3 shot

3 tackle sepanjang perlawanan. Dia menjana option dan Urgencies.

Liverpool All Attack.

Liverpool Quick Passes and counterpressing

First Goal

Second Half Total Dominance

Liverpool mencatatkan 21 shots on goal dan 7 on target. Ia adalah ruting yang dikira negatif. Masih low shost conversion.

Sterling

Break the defensive line dengan agility.

Sturridge Return!

Sesuatu yang ditunggu tunggu. Sesuatu yanng menjadi excuses paling banyak oleh Fans Liverpool bila kalah atau gagal skor. Sebab Sturridge tak ade, kalau ada...

Yes, he is the valid excuses dan the missing pieces selama ini.

Ibe

Satu kolum khas untuk Ibe agar anda tak payah frust gagal sign Lavezzi kerana Ibe ini also the real deal. Movement dan agitasi yang luar biasa tetapi kualiti Adrian menghalang dia meraikan gol BPL pertama.

Clean Sheet

Selain Mignolet , organisasi di defensive third jga penting. Dikala Can kurang selesa mengawal Valencia, rodgers meletakkan Can di middle Centre Back.

Overall Hendo still a good captain and he is not Stevie G, dont compare them.

POST MATCH VERDICT AND ANALYSIS

Liverpool v West Ham United (2-0)

Anfield&064; 31.1.2015

&039;Reds Reviving The European Spot Hunts&039;

West Ham Pressuring Early.

Emre Can Markovic.

Markovic melakukan

3 shot

3 tackle sepanjang perlawanan. Dia menjana option dan Urgencies.

Liverpool All Attack.

Liverpool Quick Passes and counterpressing

First Goal

Second Half Total Dominance

Liverpool mencatatkan 21 shots on goal dan 7 on target. Ia adalah ruting yang dikira negatif. Masih low shost conversion.

Sterling
