Lambert was an unused substitute in England’s 3-0 win over Peru at Wembley last night and made the journey to Liverpool at full-time.

He underwent a medical at the Spire Liverpool hospital on Saturday morning, overseen by the club’s doctor Zaf Iqbal.

Several media outlets are reporting on Saturday afternoon that Lambert successfully passed his medical and has since agreed personal terms at Melwood.

Having left Liverpool’s youth ranks at the age of 15, Kirkby-born Lambert will complete a dream return this weekend.

In between, he has played for Blackpool, Macclesfield Town, Stockport County, Rochdale, Bristol Rovers, before moving to Southampton in 2009.

Lambert will now fly out with the England World Cup squad for pre-tournament friendlies against Ecuador and Honduras, before it all kicks off in Brazil on Thursday, 12th June.

England’s first game sees them face Italy on Saturday 14th June. Kick-off is 11pm BST.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s bid to sign Saints midfielder Adam Lallana has hit problems, according to BBC Sport’s Ben Smith:

Rickie Lambert has arrived in Liverpool for a medical with Brendan Rodgers' side ahead of his move from Southampton.

The 32-year-old travelled to Liverpool on Friday night following England's 3-0 friendly victory over Peru at Wembley where the striker was an unused substitute.

After staying in a city centre hotel on Friday night, Lambert arrived at the Spire Liverpool Hospital shortly before 9am in a Liverpool Football Club vehicle where he joined the club's doctor - Zaf Iqbal.

It is understood a fee of £4m has been agreed between the two clubs for the Kirkby-born striker.

Lambert spent five years in the club's youth side from the age of 10 before being released in 1997 and later joining Blackpool as a trainee.

Liverpool have also agreed personal terms with the frontman who will head to Melwood later in the day to complete his medical.

Lambert is expected to fly to Southampton late on Saturday before rejoining Roy Hodgson's England squad prior to their departure to the United States for the friendlies with Ecuador and Honduras ahead of the World Cup.

Subject to the formalities of the deal being completed, an announcement confirming Lambert's capture is expected on Monday.

Lambert notched 14 goals last season and has scored 117 in 235 appearances for Southampton since joining the club for £1m from Bristol Rovers in 2009.

Meanwhile, Liverpool's improved £25m offer for Lambert's team-mate Adam Lallana is understood to be final and it remains to be seen whether 26-year-old the will also be heading to Anfield ahead of next season.

[Simon Mignolet]

Liverpool have, according to the latest reports, submitted a final “take it or leave it” offer of £25 million for Adam Lallana.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Saturday, September 21, 2013: Southampton's Adam Lallana in action against Liverpool during the Premiership match at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

While most supporters agree that Lallana, the 26-year-old England international, would be a good addition at Anfield, the potential cost is one that has divided opinion.

Yes, £25 million does seem quite exorbitant at first glance, but look a little deeper and you can see why it can be justified.

First off, take the increased Premier League TV revenue last season which saw even the bottom placed team in the league, Cardiff City, earn £62.1m – more than the title winners the year before.

It’s quite clear that this increased amount of money in England’s top flight is going to inflate the transfer market this summer. The market is effectively a new one, comparing deals and prices now with ones even a year ago isn’t relative.

Secondly, those qualifying for the Champions League next season (in 2014/15), and thus in Europe’s elite competition for 2015/16, will earn more than DOUBLE the TV revenue due to BT Sport’s purchase of TV rights.

Quite clearly then, the importance of qualifying for the Champions League next season is huge. You cannot put a price on it.

The worst case for Liverpool would be to throw away this opportunity after having regained their place in the competition after five years away, in one season. Missing out on the huge TV revenue subsequently.

That TV revenue increase for Champions League participants, you would think, will create a bigger divide between those in the competition and those not. It will make qualifying even more important than it is currently.

Liverpool, therefore, MUST strengthen their squad this summer in order to be competitive next season and thus qualify for the Champions League again.

£25 million on a player the manager sees as an important addition to achieve his aims, will pale into insignificance in the bigger picture.

You cannot compare the deal to that of Andy Carroll, Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing, or indeed any other transfer. As explained, the market is now a new one due to the increased TV revenue.

Furthermore, Rodgers is clearly keen to get business done before the World Cup, allowing for a quicker transition after the tournament. Spending a little more to get that massive benefit is justified.

Anyway, since when did all football fans become financial advisors and experts in football transfers? Isn’t it about enjoying the game?

FSG get criticised for not spending big money, and when they are prepared to back the manager and spend relatively big money, there’s still some who aren’t happy.

This isn’t the wasteful spending of a previous era, it’s calculated, speculating to accumulate. We have a superb manager who has identified a player he sees as a key player for the club.

Enjoy it.

The BBC’s Ben Smith writes on Saturday:

The Reds want to complete the deal swiftly or they will consider moving on to alternative transfer targets.

Lallana has been on the Reds’ radar for a while and the club are hoping to get a deal tied up for the 26-year-old before he flies out for World Cup preparations with England on Sunday.

Lallana played 73 minutes of England’s 3-0 victory over Peru at Wembley Stadium on Friday night.

Speculation surrounding Lallana’s proposed move to Liverpool increased this week with the imminent signing of his Southampton teammate Rickie Lambert.

Lambert is undergoing a medical on Saturday ahead of his reported £4 million switch to Anfield.

Elsewhere, the Mirror report that Liverpoool hope to sign Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno within the next week, suggesting the deal will total around £20 million.

Liverpool sedia melakukan tawaran kepada Barcelona untuk mendapatkan Alexis Sanchez. Liverpool bakal membida Sanchez sebanyak £20m. Selepas berjaya mendapatkan Rickie Lambert, Brendan Rodgers mahukan khidmat Sanchez pula.

The majority of Liverpool supporters have welcomed the news of Rickie Lambert’s imminent arrival with perspective and balance, able to see how much sense it makes for Liverpool. As always though, there are some who have found reason to criticise the move.

Social media, love it or hate it, has given a voice to those who think the world of football transfers is a simple process and one where clubs simply go out and players who they want, like shopping at your local Tesco.

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve read how Liverpool “should just sign [Loic] Remy instead” in relation to the Lambert deal. One suggestion on twitter was that Samuel Eto’o would be better as he’d score more goals and was available on a free.

Just quickly, lets get that Eto’o one out the way by pointing out that Lambert scored four more than Eto’o last season in the Premier League. A rather flawed ‘argument’.

As is the suggestion that Liverpool should simply go out and sign Remy instead.

For starters, why would Remy, a player who has just been a regular starter and goalscorer for a Premier League side, sign for a club knowing full well he’d be back up to two of the best forwards not only in the league but also Europe? He wouldn’t. Not unless he was a mercenary. In which case why would want someone at the club just to pick a pay cheque?

Rodgers’ squad is all about attitude, togetherness, mentality and unity.

Throw in the reported wages of Remy and you get another quite clear reason why such a move makes very little sense. Why would Liverpool pay a player higher wages than half the starting XI, to simply play back up to Suarez and Sturridge.

These are all rhetorical questions by the way, ones which anyone with an iota of perspective needn’t even think about.

What’s most baffling is that some are seemingly griping about signing a player who is 32. “He’s too old, we should be signing someone younger” they spew from their keyboards.

Yes, because Liverpool are clearly lacking young players.

Quite clearly too, Lambert fits in with the style of play at Liverpool, having played in a similar system with Southampton for the last two seasons.

But at the same time, he offers a different dimension that will improve the squad. He’s able to hold up play and bring others around him into play.

Struggling to break a team down, have Lambert with Suarez and Sturridge buzzing around him, plus Sterling, Coutinho and likely Lallana.

Needing to hold on to a lead, have Lambert hold up play up front expertly.

Why would Remy, a player of a similar ilk to what we already have in the squad, be a better option? He wouldn’t.

Signing Lambert is a smart move, one that makes complete sense for Liverpool. A player who will give 100% despite being behind Suarez and Sturridge – unlike others we’ve witnessed this season.

Oh, and for the record, Remy signed just one Premier League goal more than Lambert last season, but one less in all competitions.

We’re signing a player who has scored 28 Premier League goals in the last two seasons, for £4.5m, who suits our style of play and will be an excellent addition to the squad.

Southampton striker Rickie Lambert will undergo his medical at Liverpool on Saturday after the two clubs agreed a fee for the England international.

The Press Association report that Liverpool’s second bid was accepted on Friday morning.

Numerous reports claim the fee is in the region of £4 million, not the £9 million fee that was reported by Sky Sports on Thursday evening.

Lambert will sign a two-year deal with the option of another year, and the move should be finalised this weekend, before he heads off to Miami for England’s pre-World Cup training camp.

Liverpool are signing an experienced player with a proven Premier League goalscoring record who has played a system similar to how Brendan Rodgers‘ side play for the past two years.

In both his seasons in the Premier League, Lambert has hit double figures. He will offer an excellent backup to Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.

The low fee also means that money will remain to strengthen other, arguably more pressing, areas of the squad.

PA Sport also report that Liverpool are continuing negotiations for Spanish left-back Alberto Moreno, with Sevilla now reported to want Luis Alberto on loan as part of the deal.

“Lambert looks like being the first through the door at Anfield in what is expected to be a busy summer as they look to strengthen ahead of a return to the Champions League” writes PA.

They end by saying interest in Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm has cooled, and that Liverpool are no longer considering the Dutchman as a viable target.

[PENCERAHAN PEMBELIAN LAMBERT]

Pembelian Lambert dikaitkan dengan Lallana dan Lovren (3L)

1. Pembelian Lambert tak masuk akal sebab menyalahi FSG transfer rule sebab umur dah tua (32 thn). Jadi mesti ada sebab lain

2. Situasi paling berkemungkinan : Soton naikkan harga Lambert (harga asal: 4 juta jadi 9 juta ) Lovren (harga asal: 15 juta jadi 20 juta)

3.liverpool hanya perlu bayar Lallana 10 juta(atau lagi kurang) sebab 10 juta lagi dah di back up dari harga Lambert dan Lovren .

4. Sebab buat gitu?

Lallana : 20 juta? Berbaloi.

Lovren : aku menerima dengan hati terbuka

Muda, 2 kaki hidup, leadership .

Semua 3 pemain tu dah biasa dengan sistem BR.

6. At the end, Liverpool kemungkinan dapat 3 &039;upgrade&039; pemain dengan harga £40 juta atau kurang. Brilliant move.

7. Situasi yang dicerite ni memang dah hangat diorang bincangkan kat Europe. Pernah terjadi mase Monaco beli Moutinho dan Rodriguez. (naikkan harga satu pemain, turunkan harga pemain yang lain)
