Villa 2
Liverpool 1

Villans goes to the Final.

And sorry Captain!
No fairytale Farewell untuk anda.

Liverpool Too Poor

Back To Basic

AKHIRNYA Liverpool gagal menampung ketiadaan 20 goal striker musim ini. Hampir setiap game LFC split and share the goal tally tanpa ada consistent striker.

RodgersTactic

Chances Created

Tak cukup peluang dicipta. Tak ada keypasses yang berterusan. Akhirnya mengubah kepada crossing play kerana BUNTU. LFC is not competitive enough untuk crossing play. Corner kick pun payah nak beri ancaman.

Kesimpulan ringkas saya adalah, pasukan LFC macam datang ke dewan exam tapi tak tau exam subjek apa. Not well prepared, tactically , technically, mentally and physically.

Collum khas utk Gerrard

Dont blame him excessively. sebab secara teamplay semua kelaut. At least dia merasa grass wembley dalam baju LFC buat kali terakhir. Kita gagal sebagai unit bukan seorang dua tetapi satu team. Memang dia agak out tune tapi kita ada every reason to respect him!

Adios captain ! Anda ada menulis cerita indah dalam FA Cup yg tak mungkin kami lupakan, Gerrard Final vs West Ham !

HallOfFame : Rory Delap

Fenomena lontaran panjang !

RoryDelap

Delap adalah bekas juara rejam lembing ketika sekolah. Beliau adalah bekas pemain Stoke yg pernah mengejutkan dunia bolasepak dengan aplikasi teknik balingan throw in yg luar biasa.

Ancaman Delap&039;s Throw

Notable Long Throws

In the aftermath of Liverpool’s season effectively ending with the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Aston Villa, Brendan Rodgers‘ job is reported not to be under threat – yet.

LONDON, ENGLAND - Sunday, April 19, 2015: Liverpool's manager Brendan Rodgers during the FA Cup Semi-Final match against Aston Villa at Wembley Stadium. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Monday afternoon saw the Liverpool Echo report that Rodgers retains the backing of the club’s owners and that Fenway Sports Group have no plans to change manager.

In a somewhat contradictory claim though, the report states:

“The Americans plan to conduct a thorough review into this season, once the campaign has finished, but unless there is a significant change of heart in Boston during the next month, Rodgers will be given the chance to continue as Reds boss.”

So basically, there has been no review yet, then his job is neither safe, nor under threat until that review has taken place.

We’ve seen in the past how ruthless FSG can be when targets aren’t met. They sacked Kenny Dalglish in 2012 for failing to qualify for the Champions League, despite winning the League Cup and getting to the FA Cup final.

Rodgers will have failed on all three of his targets for this season; a top four finish, to win a domestic Cup, and to progress to knockout stages of the Champions League.

Since the semi-final defeat, Liverpool have attempted some positive PR with numerous pieces of information arriving in the mainstream media. Interest in PSV forward Memphis Depay is now “confirmed” and reports on Jordan Henderson‘s new contract have both been reported the press on Tuesday.

Comments are retrospectively moderated. Some could be subject to delays before publication. They must obey the

The performance at Wembley was unacceptable, whichever way you dress it up, writes Liverpudlian.

LONDON, ENGLAND - Sunday, April 19, 2015: Liverpool's captain Steven Gerrard looks dejected as Aston Villa score the second goal during the FA Cup Semi-Final match at Wembley Stadium. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

We were playing a bang average side – who are flirting with relegation and who were better than us in every department. In a season of disappointments, this ranks alongside the worst. In fact, looking at the bigger picture, it stands alongside the biggest disappointments in years. This was a prestigious game at Wembley for a chance to restore some credibility and maybe, just maybe, the chance to put a trophy in the cabinet with a return visit against Arsenal.

Symptomatic of the season though, when it came to the crunch, the lack of quality was staggering. Delph and young Grealish ran the midfield while Benteke, predictably, gave us problems all afternoon. Villa looked the better team, despite a host of injury problems. Let’s take nothing away from their display, they deserved it. They wanted it more than us and when was the last time you could say that about a Liverpool side?

In the days up to the semi, we had read how this was our chance to make a statement, to lay the bogie that we were chokers, the nearly men, that our success last year was down to playing less games, it was
our chance to move up to the next level…etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

So what do we do? Play right into the hands of our detractors with a woeful performance devoid of inspiration, quality and passion. If this was a one off you could say, ok, lets move on, but we all know that is not the case and it is very difficult to make an argument for a single one of our lads playing to their full ability. If they had come off blood stained and weary, having given every last ounce of sweat, you could gave forgiven them …..but that?

LONDON, ENGLAND - Sunday, April 19, 2015: Liverpool's manager Brendan Rodgers and Aston Villa's manager Tim Sherwood during the FA Cup Semi-Final match at Wembley Stadium. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

I have supported them all season when the critics were baying for blood, reasoning that once Daniel Sturridge had returned from injury, we might see a steady improvement but the simple facts are now that the two main goal scorers that took us to within an inch of the title have been missing since last summer and in terms of solutions and ideas on how this shortfall was ever going to be overcome, well, we are all still waiting for the answers.

How was this allowed to continue, though, once it got to the January transfer window? You would like to think the club did a bit more than try and bring in Divock Origi early but either way, the situation with Sturridge must never be allowed to happen again. Ok we missed out on Alexis Sanchez in the summer and also the Falcao loan, but the Balotelli gamble has misfired totally and there is no other “striker” of quality to lead the line either on the bench or in the reserves and you are kinda wondering why this is?

Coutinho is improving all the time into a more attacking role but very regrettably, with all this going on, young Raheem now seems hell bent on pissing us all off big time. The result is, of the attaching
trio that took the premiership by storm last year, one is in Spain, one wants to go there and the third might as well go there now on his jollies and start getting himself relaxed, fit and ready for next
season because we cannot have anther season like this.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Friday, April 10, 2015: Liverpool's Raheem Sterling during the launch for the New Balance 2015/16 home kit at Anfield. (Pic by Paul Currie/Propaganda)

Yes, Raheem is a great prospect, arguably the best of his age in Europe but he isn’t quite a great player yet and we are all waiting for some more maturity in both his play on the field and his conduct off it. His problem now is, once you even hint at breaking that bond of trust with the supporters with any kind of insinuation that your heart is not in the cause, then it is like signing your own death warrant and you simply invite the scrutiny.

Kevin Keegan, Michael Owen, Steve McManaman and Fernando Torres all did it and will never be quite viewed the same way again. They, however, had at least done it on the pitch whereas, Sterling hasn’t yet. This all may seem incredibly harsh for a lad of twenty but its shit or bust time now.

After flirting with the big time and taking six steps forward in getting to a runners up spot, we have, with
indecent haste, taken three back and the very familiar struggle for credibility, a top four place and, on top of the Wembley fiasco, the last thing we need now is any more dissention from within the ranks.

The outcry to his ill-advised interview was pretty universal in condemnation and even critics of our club rounded on the lad, but the very relevant point has been made that he is not even playing well enough this season to either justify a hundred grand a week or to consider that one of the big names in Europe will necessarily pay big bucks for him. If he was getting his head down, playing his heart out and saying nothing, no one would say a dickie bird, but I think he is starting to believe his own hype and, lets face it, he is not alone.

It’s fair to say that apart from Emre Can, none of our young imports have really been a success so far and they have it all to prove now or I fear the patience of the crowd may well start to wear thin.

The honeymoon period is over now with what looks like a meaningless run-in with nothing to play for. All the credit gained last year has been used up. From the situation appearing quite promising, everything is in danger of going pear shaped. Our manager rightly got the plaudits for the change to playing three at the back but it now requires a re-think as teams have sussed it out almost as quickly as it started and he has got to get it right again. The shadow of the steelwork will not be the only thing looming over Anfield if he doesn’t do that going into next season.

The owners are putting their money where their mouths are but not many of our players can look back at this season with any sort of satisfaction.

What they all need to do is to look at themselves in the mirror to see if they want it as much as we do, because I never saw it at Wembley.

You let us down lads, big time.

Disappointing times to be a red.

From “sensational” training ground performances, to getting carried away and talking up the chance of a second place finish, Brendan Rodgers needs to stop setting himself and his players up for a fall.

SUNDERLAND, ENGLAND - Saturday, January 10, 2015: Liverpool's manager Brendan Rodgers during the Premier League match against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Brendan Rodgers likes to talk. He talks a lot. That’s not necessarily a problem – after all, talking is part of his job (an increasingly bigger part in modern football). The problem is the hyperbole that he delivers on a weekly basis is helping nobody, not himself and certainly not the young players he overly lavishes praise upon.

Every manager says things that annoy supporters, and every manager has quotes that come back to haunt them, but Brendan Rodgers is making a habit of saying things that very quickly backfire.

I’ve regularly defended Rodgers this season when fans have criticised him on social media for talking about certain subjects, pointing out that that’s how questions work, the manager is paid to give answers in press conferences. He answers what he is asked.

The problem is he talks too much and gets carried away when things are going well.

In recent months we’ve heard Rodgers tell us how his new look Liverpool side would have fared so much better in the Champions League than the one dumped out after just one win in six back in December. “If we were in it now with this group and the confidence we’re showing and the way of working then we would have had a chance,” he claimed.

Liverpool were dumped out of the Europa League a week later, at the first attempt, by Besiktas – having scored one goal (a penalty) in 210 minutes.

ISTANBUL, TURKEY - Thursday, February 26, 2015: Liverpool's manager Brendan Rodgers before the UEFA Europa League Round of 32 2nd Leg match against Besiktas JK at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

More recently, buoyed by his side’s win over Manchester City and a scrappy win at former club Swansea, Rodgers got carried away again and talked up the chances of his side not only finishing in the top four, but targeting second place. Two defeats in a row in crucial games against Man United and Arsenal ended those brief hopes.

Not long after that we were told how 18-year-old winger Jordon Ibe, who had been the only arrival for the club in January after returning from loan at Derby County, had been “sensational” in training following his return from injury. Was this intended to make Ibe feel good about himself? Did it have the adverse effect and put pressure on him? Either way, he had a pretty ineffective hour against Newcastle, as you might expect after six weeks out and a handful of Premier League appearances to his name.

The question perhaps is whether the players even believe such praise, given that they witness Rodgers telling the media how sensational Rickie Lambert has been in training (working tirelessly is usually the claim), then given the last two minutes as a cameo appearance when the side runs out of ideas and Rodgers abandons his much lauded philosophy to go long to the target man. After a while, surely these statements become a bit hollow?

The latest hyperbole from Rodgers was his claim that Steven Gerrard was “excellent” during the dismal display against Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final. Who is he trying to kid? We all clearly appreciate Gerrard for everything he has done for the club, but we’re not daft enough to let sentimentality cloud our judgement. There aren’t many I know who didn’t think Gerrard was Liverpool’s worst player on the day. I doubt you’ll find anybody who watched that game who agreed with Rodgers’ claim.

It’s annoying when managers turn into spin doctors and blow more hot air than a politician. What next, that Dejan Lovren’s braindead decision to shoot form 35-yards when we had Villa penned in their own box after a rare spell of pressure in the final stages was a good idea? As good an idea as spending £20 million on him last summer was.

We all knew Hodgson was talking crap when he claimed a famous victory at Bolton or that a 2-0 defeat in the derby was the best performance of the season. Rodgers is talking from The Book of Roy when claiming Gerrard was excellent. He wasn’t. Why say he was? What is that going to do other than piss off the fans who are already annoyed at such an inept display in another big game? He doesn’t have to knock him when he’s down, but he doesn’t have to make such a ridiculous claim either. Gerrard won’t believe him, he’ll know he wasn’t “excellent”.

It’s fine making big statements if you can deliver them, these last few months (or more) have seen Rodgers fail to deliver any of the big claims he’s made.

It’s good to talk, but just stop with the hyperbole.

Jordan Henderson is expected to sign a new five-year Liverpool deal by the end of the week, according to reports in several national newspapers on Tuesday.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Sunday, March 1, 2015: Liverpool's captain Jordan Henderson in action against Manchester City during the Premier League match at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

The Telegraph‘s Chris Bascombe claims Henderson and Liverpool have agreed a £100,000-a-week deal that will see the England international stay at Anfield until the summer of 2020.

The Daily Mail‘s Dominic King also reports the news, which comes with 14 months remaining on Henderson’s current deal at Anfield.

If true, the news would come as a great boost to the Reds after disappointedly being beaten in their FA Cup semi-final to the hands of Aston Villa on Sunday, prompting much discussion over the current direction of the club.

There had been growing concerns over Henderson’s future with Liverpool struggling to tie up new deals for him, Raheem Sterling and Jon Flanagan. Sterling’s contract will be discussed again at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old is currently enjoying his fourth season on Merseyside, having made 180 appearances since his move from Sunderland in 2011.

According to Press Association Sport, Liverpool have so far declined to comment on the reports.

My Explanation Over This Picture.

We lost marquee player Luis Suarez dan LFC gagal replace beliau. Kenapa ?

Calon pertama dahulu adalah Alexis Sanchez , dia decide ke Arsenal atas sebab London Life !
At the same time our TC tak mampu nak deal atau nego more utk Sanchez.

Calon kedua : Karim Benzema , dia divaluasi at least £30 juta. Tetapi dia tak ada tanda tanda tertekan nak tinggalkan Bernabeau walaupun tak pasti role dia di Santiago Bernabeau setelah RMFC mendapatkan mega deal untuk James Rodriguez.

Calon ketiga : Radamel Falcao Garcia. Monaco mrminta LFC membayar gaji at least £250k per week utk menampung £325 k seminggu. yang ini memang overprice. Sedang dalam proses rocovery. Man Utd akhirnya sanggup.

So memang tak ada marquee signing yg possible untuk Luis Suarez. Jadi tiba tiba Mario Balotelli disenaraikan Milan dalam For Sell List. Ketika BR not too interested to sign MB45. Some section of fan urges him to sign Balotelli selepas aksi persahabatan Milan LFC. Akhirnya £16m deal done. Dan TC LFC menganggap ia adalah good price sebab below 20m.

Let&039;s Have a look at some signing.

Second Role Singning-
Allen, Lambert,Toure - mereka adalah back up untuk squad depth. Dan most of the time mereka adalah second choice. Kecuali pemain utama injured atau mereka on form.

Loan Signing
Tetapi dia memang dah losing his grip sejak tinggalkan Dortmund.

Moses pula atas dasar dia nak more game untuk persediaan Kejohanan World Cup. So no issue overspend di sini. So no deal selepas tamat loan.
Lepas tu tinggal Manquillo. Option to buy, saya rasa ini prospek dan ia adalah clause yg tepat untuk option to buy. Option to buy means , biasanyya anda harus membayar gaji pemain ini penuh dalam tempoh loan dan bukan split the wages antara kelab angkat dan parents club. Reason kenapa Falcao di Man Utd bukan option to buy kerana Monaco turut membayar gaji. Kes sama dengan Sahin di mana LFC - Madrid split the wages bill. Lepas tu ada lagi extreme, not option to buy , parebts club bayar gaji penuh.

Prospect Signing
Ini yg paling banyak dilakukan. Kerana mereka dibawah paras 20 juta dan kadang kada 3 , 4 jut sahaja.

List
Coutinho - 8j Bargain of century, nilai dah increase sekitar £25m

Emre Can - 12m, Good signing dan value also increased
Assaidi - 3j, dijual ke al Ahli 4.7m = excess 1.7m

Yesil - 1j (good prospect)
Teixera - 6m (good prospect, cmerlang di kelab angkat buat masa ini)
Alberto - 5m ,on loan ( more game di kelab angkat)
Aspas - 7.7 m, on loan ( good performance di kelab angkat)
Moreno - 16m, good singning
Illori - 7m, good singning, pemain penting di kelab angkat.

Origi - 10m, Good signing.. kalau tinggi sikit dah overprice dah.

Lallana - 25m (PFA TEAM OF THE YEAR dan Player of the Year Soton)
markovic - 25m (player utama Benfica dan pemain terbaik kelab.)
Lovren - 25 m ( top 10 pertahanan terbaik BPL 2014)
Balotelli - 16m (pemain utama AC Milan dijual kerana masalah kewangan kelab.)
sakho - 18m ( kapten PSG dan kini pemain utama LFC)

Marquee signing
- error 404

So 212m kemana?
Kita invest terlalu banyak kat young talent dan pemain sperti Illori memang anda patut monitor. Kesannya, bila main game besar semua nervous sebab jarang nak jumpa budak macam Gerrard masa muda yg tak gentar.

Ingat Moreno cuak lawan City bila direct main first 11 sebab enrique missing. Prospect signing terpaksa cover pemain injured yg teruk melanda kelab kita. YNWA

My Explanation Over This Picture.

We lost marquee player Luis Suarez dan LFC gagal replace beliau. Kenapa ?

Calon pertama dahulu adalah Alexis Sanchez , dia decide ke Arsenal atas sebab London Life !
At the same time our TC tak mampu nak deal atau nego more utk Sanchez.

Calon kedua : Karim Benzema , dia divaluasi at least £30 juta. Tetapi dia tak ada tanda tanda tertekan nak tinggalkan Bernabeau walaupun tak pasti role dia di Santiago Bernabeau setelah RMFC mendapatkan mega deal untuk James Rodriguez.

Calon ketiga : Radamel Falcao Garcia. Monaco mrminta LFC membayar gaji at least £250k per week utk menampung £325 k seminggu. yang ini memang overprice. Sedang dalam proses rocovery. Man Utd akhirnya sanggup.

So memang tak ada marquee signing yg possible untuk Luis Suarez. Jadi tiba tiba Mario Balotelli disenaraikan Milan dalam For Sell List. Ketika BR not too interested to sign MB45. Some section of fan urges him to sign Balotelli selepas aksi persahabatan Milan LFC. Akhirnya £16m deal done. Dan TC LFC menganggap ia adalah good price sebab below 20m.

Let&039;s Have a look at some signing.

Second Role Singning-
Allen, Lambert,Toure - mereka adalah back up untuk squad depth. Dan most of the time mereka adalah second choice. Kecuali pemain utama injured atau mereka on form.

Loan Signing
Tetapi dia memang dah losing his grip sejak tinggalkan Dortmund.

Moses pula atas dasar dia nak more game untuk persediaan Kejohanan World Cup. So no issue overspend di sini. So no deal selepas tamat loan.
Lepas tu tinggal Manquillo. Option to buy, saya rasa ini prospek dan ia adalah clause yg tepat untuk option to buy. Option to buy means , biasanyya anda harus membayar gaji pemain ini penuh dalam tempoh loan dan bukan split the wages antara kelab angkat dan parents club. Ten Kop stars on the way out of Anfield ?

Status Raheem Sterling pula masih menjadi tanda tanya selepas beliau in a contract stand-off & Manchester City FC akan membuat tawaran untuk mendapatkan Sterling.

Tetapi agen beliau percaya Liverpool FC masih kelab pilihan utama Henderson.

There’s two things a Liverpool defeat can guarantee to bring out—questions over the club’s transfer policy and a good flurry of activity in the rumour mill.

Newspapers

Reds fans will have woken up on Monday morning with that awful sense of déjà vu — mounting deadwood and the urge for a squad-wide reshuffle this summer.

Of course, the newspapers have all the answers for Brendan Rodgers and today those answers lie in PSV Eindhoven’s Dutch international winger Memphis Depay and Colombia’s Monaco-come-Manchester United forward Radamel Falcao.

Dutch newspaper De Telegraf say Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have been given permission to start discussing personal terms over a proposed move for Depay this summer.

This Is Anfield’s Jack Lusby wrote last month of the reasons why the Reds should look to sign the 21-year-old, concluding:

At £20 million and just 21 years old, Memphis Depay should represent a solid investment for Brendan Rodgers this summer, and would swiftly become a key player for Liverpool.

Such is the cruel way of the rumour mill though that BBC Sport report Man Utd have made moves to sign Depay.

The Daily Express say Falcao’s agents is “reportedly” in talks with Liverpool over a permanent move. As the Express seem to be the first ones claiming this (at least this week), it must be assumed that those reports have leaked from Johnny in accounts again. Johnny is a lover of Morrissey on sunny days, cats and storytelling.

This is the same Falcao who has earned almost £3 million since his last shot on target, according to an equally unreliable source — Twitter.

“Mendes is apparently trying to persuade Brendan Rodgers to sign Falcao on a full-time contract,” writes Anthony Chapman. Well if Rodgers was persuaded to sign Iago Aspas, Mendes is probably quietly confident.

As Liverpool’s season fizzles out, expect the transfer rumours to come along thick and fast as every man and his dog formulates a rescue plan.

Liverpool FC Transfer Rumours: Depay and Falcao to fix an ailing team?

The aftermath of any Liverpool defeat is always followed by questions, often pointing to a long-term rot, hierarchical problems or root cause for said loss.

LONDON, ENGLAND - Sunday, April 19, 2015: Liverpool's manager Brendan Rodgers during the FA Cup Semi-Final match against Aston Villa at Wembley Stadium. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Newspapers, websites, social media and forums will be awash with theories, often, but not exclusively, kneejerk and by the Reds’ win the next week, everything is rosy again.

Sunday’s gloomy FA Cup semi-final exit to the hands of Aston Villa at Wembley, however, feels different. It has some unromantic conclusions that play Liverpool’s 2014/15 campaign out as a tragic narrative.

Steven Gerrard’s “fairytale” goodbye was put to bed (though the campaign to #getgerrardtowembley did succeed, so well done you), and coupled with Manchester City’s win over West Ham, it looks, without want of hope, like the season is over.

The defeat to Villa epitomised Liverpool’s season—a drab display lacking inspiration or ideas, too many passengers on a mediocre journey.

LONDON, ENGLAND - Sunday, April 19, 2015: Liverpool's Dejan Lovren in action against Aston Villa's Christian Benteke during the FA Cup Semi-Final match at Wembley Stadium. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Dejan Lovren’s wayward effort in the dying embers of the ordeal rank alongside Victor Moses’ miskick at Selhurst Park last season and Iago Aspas’ appalling corner at home to Cheslea.

Unsurprisingly a large focus in the post-match debate is Liverpool’s spend on players under Brendan Rodger—a worrying issue that is raised time and time again.

The Northern Irishamn is approaching the end of his third season at Anfield, having spent over £212 million on 20 players, with an additional four loanees.

What it amounts to, writes Sam Cunningham in the Daily Mail, is the lack of return on such a heavy investment:

During Rodgers’ time in charge, Manchester United and Chelsea had spent more than their Merseyside rivals – so too have City by a fraction – but each of those have brought home something. United and City have won two trophies – including the Premier League title – while Chelsea have one and are sure to add the league title to that soon.

Arsene Wenger has spent £183m, comparatively little, but managed to win two trophies over the past two seasons. That is less than rivals Tottenham, who have spent just under £200m and, like Liverpool, have won nothing.

Cunningham claims, based on 22 of players bought under Rodgers, only seven have proved a success, and says the club’s failings in the transfer market will heap more pressure on young signings such as Divock Origi.

Player From Reported Price (£m) Date
Fabio Borini Roma 10.4 July 2012
Joe Allen Swansea 15 August 2012
Oussama Assaidi Heerenveen 2.4 August 2012
Nuri Sahin Real Madrid Loan August 2012
Samed Yesil Bayer Leverkusen 1 August 2012
Daniel Sturridge Chelsea 12 January 2013
Philippe Coutinho Inter Milan 8.6 January 2013
Luis Alberto Sevilla 6.8 June 2013
Iago Aspas Celta Vigo 7.5 June 2013
Simon Mignolet Sunderland 10 June 2013
Kolo Toure Manchester City Free July 2013
Aly Cissokho Valencia Loan August 2013
Tiago Ilori Sporting Lisbon 7 September 2013
Mamadou Sakho PSG 15 September 2013
Victor Moses Chelsea Loan September 2013
Rickie Lambert Southampton 4.5 June 2014
Adam Lallana Southampton 25 July 2014
Emre Can Bayer Leverkusen 9.75 July 2014
Lazar Markovic Benfica 19.8 July 2014
Dejan Lovren Southampton 20 July 2014
Diock Origi Lille 10 July 2014
Javier Manquillo Atletico Madrid Loan August 2014
Alberto Moreno Sevilla 12 August 2014
Mario Balotelli AC Milan 16 August 2014

Chris Bascombe of The Telegraph delivers a similar line, counting 23 players signed by Rodgers and the rest of the Liverpool transfer committee made up of Michael Edwards, Ian Ayre, Michael Gordon, Dave Fallows and Barry Hunter.

Both Cunningham and Bascombe agree there are success stories in Daniel Sturridge (£12m), Philippe Coutinho (£8.6m) and, to an extent, Simon Mignolet (£10m), whilst younger members of the squad, such as Emre Can (£9.75m), are afforded “promising” evaluations.

There is little praise for last summer’s signings from Bascombe who, whilst describing Lazar Markovic’s (£19.8m) impact so far, says the “soundtrack of Liverpool’s season could be agent Pini Zahavi laughing at the £10m he cashed in for this dud. Chelsea had first option and ignored it. They’re reaped the benefits at Liverpool’s cost.”

LONDON, ENGLAND - Sunday, April 19, 2015: Liverpool's Lazar Markovic in action against Aston Villa during the FA Cup Semi-Final match at Wembley Stadium. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Adam Lallana (£25m), Dejan Lovren (£20m) and Mario Balotelli (£16m) all fail to impress too, whilst the assessment of Fabio Borini (£10.4m), signed upon Rodgers’ arrival in 2012, reads like a bad hangover.

Bascombe says of Spaniard Alberto Moreno (£12m) that he “started off well enough but has deteriorated as the season has progressed. Not a clever defender and offering little in attack. Will need a vast improvement next season.”

In essence the jury is still out on a few players, but patience is wearing thin on a large proportion of Rodgers’ signings and as the director’s clapperboard begins to close on 2014/15, the questions are all about Liverpool in the transfer market.

How many of Rodgers’ signings can be considered a success? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and share your ideas on what needs to be done at club-level to improve things.

Attention turns to Brendan Rodgers’ signings as debate over Liverpool’s failings begins

With Liverpool’s pre-season objectives all but out of reach, Jack Lusby picks 10 changes Brendan Rodgers must make for the remaining six games of 2014/15.

It’s the harsh reality that Liverpool fans will have to confront sooner rather than later—Brendan Rodgers’ side both crashed out of the FA Cup and saw their hopes of a top-four league finish collapse in a single, brutal Sunday.

With the Reds’ 2-1 Wembley loss to Aston Villa following Manchester City’s 2-0 home league win over West Ham United, Rodgers has lost sight of silverware and Champions League qualification.

So now he must look ahead, and plot a renewed charge for success in 2015/16.

This can begin with the last six games of the 2014/15 season, but what changes must the manager make to do so?

Settle on a System

LONDON, ENGLAND - Sunday, April 19, 2015: Liverpool's manager Brendan Rodgers during the FA Cup Semi-Final match against Aston Villa at Wembley Stadium. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Rodgers’ struggle to find balance and counter Villa’s might on Sunday exemplified the need for the manager to settle on a successful system ahead of next season.

3-4-3, 4-2-3-1 and 4-3-3: Rodgers tried a lot to no avail at Wembley, with Fabian Delph and Jack Grealish finding pockets of space within each system.

This was largely due to the constantly shifting positional demands placed upon each player, with Steven Gerrard, for example, operating as a playmaker in the opening stages but finishing the game as a deep-lying midfielder.

This isn’t a new problem either, and Rodgers now needs to settle on a reasonable system, based on his players’ strengths—a 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 diamond is perhaps best—and build around that.

Offer Javier Manquillo Redemption

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Sunday, August 17, 2014: Liverpool's Javier Manquillo in action against Southampton during the Premier League match at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

As Liverpool played out Sunday’s loss, one player who looked on almost dead-eyed and disinterested was Spanish right-back Javier Manquillo, who adopted his regular role on the Reds’ substitutes’ bench.

The 20-year-old can be forgiven for his demeanour, too, given the complete lack of game time Rodgers has offered him in the second half of the season after a bright start, when he served as Liverpool’s best defensive full-back.

While the soon-to-be departed Glen Johnson is offered vacuous minutes in Liverpool red, it is Manquillo that is genuinely deserving of redemption under Rodgers.

Bury the Steven Gerrard Sentimentalism

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Sunday, March 22, 2015: Liverpool's captain Steven Gerrard walks off after being shown a red card during the Premier League match against Manchester United at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

As Rodgers continued to switch the systems at Wembley, Gerrard remained one miserable constant—the Liverpool captain failed dramatically on what was built up to be his big day.

That the manager kept him on the pitch was bemusing, as was his switching Gerrard to the deep-lying role that had so obviously failed in what Rodgers himself called Liverpool’s “turning point,” in November’s 3-1 loss away to Crystal Palace.

What seemed to keep Gerrard on the pitch was a misguided will to see him conjure some of the magic he has become synonymous with on occasions such as Sunday’s semi-final.

But the truth is, he is no more than a sentimental selection at this point—this needs to end.

Phase Out the Other Players Who Will Not Be Around Next Season

Along with Gerrard, who will join LA Galaxy at the end of the season, there are a host of Liverpool players likely with one eye on the upcoming summer, as they plan for life with new clubs.

Johnson, Kolo Toure, Brad Jones, Rickie Lambert, Fabio Borini and Jose Enrique are all also likely to move on in the summer.

Now the Reds have no short-term success in sight, why lean on them anymore?

These players must be phased out before the end of the season.

Give Mario Balotelli One Last Chance

European Football - UEFA Europa League - Round of 32 - Liverpool FC v Besiktas JK

Close to making his mark at Wembley, Mario Balotelli’s wrongly ruled-out goal would have given Liverpool a lifeline at 2-2 but, as has been the striker’s luck for most of his maiden season for the Reds, it wasn’t to be.

While Balotelli wasn’t exceptional on Sunday, nor has he been at all this season, his quality did shine through in brief patches.

Balotelli is a player underused by Rodgers, for one reason or another, and will likely join Gerrard, Johnson and Co. through the exit door in the summer.

But before he does, he should be given the chance to prove his worth to Liverpool in the final six games. Playing him alongside a forward would be at least worth a try.

Move Emre Can Into Midfield

Like Gerrard, Emre Can was a player who switched roles with regularity on Sunday, and it was the position that he finally settled on, in midfield, that Rodgers should persevere with from this point in the season.

Can should be earmarked as Gerrard’s long-term successor; as a driving force in the Liverpool midfield and a true leader.

His apprenticeship, of sorts, in defence has seemingly developed his tactical game, as well as his physical approach to the Premier League, and this will no doubt aid his transition into a midfield warrior.

With nothing much left to lose, Rodgers should plump for Can in midfield now.

Build Around Philippe Coutinho in a Central Role

BLACKBURN, ENGLAND - Wednesday, April 8, 2015: Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho Correia celebrates scoring the first goal against Blackburn Rovers during the FA Cup 6th Round Quarter-Final Replay match at Ewood Park. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

One player who managed to preserve his dignity on Sunday however, and one of few to have done so consistently throughout this season, was opening goalscorer Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian has risen to the fore under Rodgers this season, beyond the currently muted Raheem Sterling and the constantly injured Daniel Sturridge to the stature of Liverpool’s best player.

That he committed his future to the club with little fuss earlier this season is a further indicator of his worth.

He is best in a central role, and should be built around in this position for the long-term.

Focus on the Development of Jordon Ibe

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Thursday, February 19, 2015: Liverpool's Jordon Ibe in action against Besiktas JK during the UEFA Europa League Round of 32 1st Leg match at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

After declaring last summer that Jordon Ibe had “all the attributes to be a real outstanding player,” and more recently as “absolutely sensational,” it is clear that Rodgers has a big future in mind for the 19-year-old.

Returning from injury to the Liverpool first team, Ibe should play a key role in the last six games of 2014/15.

With the future of Sterling still up in the air, and the likes of Balotelli and Sturridge struggling up front, Rodgers would be wise to focus on the development of Ibe as a focal attacking outlet.

Give Lazar Markovic an Extended Run in His Natural Role

SUNDERLAND, ENGLAND - Saturday, January 10, 2015: Liverpool's Lazar Markovic in action against Sunderland during the Premier League match at the Stadium of Light. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Along with Ibe, another young, high-potential forward waiting to blossom within Rodgers’ squad is Lazar Markovic, and the 21-year-old should play a big part in the season’s climax, too.

Markovic was hauled off at half-time at Wembley—a regular occurrence for the £20 million man—and given little chance to impress in a right wing-back role.

The former Benfica man is clearly most effective in an attacking role, where he has flourished in the past, and he should be afforded the opportunity to impress in an extended run in his natural position for the rest of the season.

Utilise Liverpool’s Youth

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND - Monday, September 23, 2013: Liverpool's Cameron Brannagan in action against Manchester City during the Under 21 FA Premier League match at Ewen Fields. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Along with Can, Coutinho, Ibe and Markovic, Rodgers should turn to his bountiful Academy system to spruce up his side ahead of 2015/16.

One name that stands out is 18-year-old midfielder Cameron Brannagan, who has featured on the Liverpool substitutes’ bench in recent weeks, as well as impressing in Gerrard’s All Star charity match.

Brannagan, Harry Wilson, Sergi Canos, Pedro Chirivella and Ryan Kent should all come into Rodgers’ thinking in the last six games of the season.

How should Brendan Rodgers approach the last six games of the 2014/15 season? Let us know in the comments below.

10 Things Brendan Rodgers Must Do in Last 6 Games of 2014/15
