Raheem Sterling: Set to leave Liverpool

Raheem Sterling: Set to leave Liverpool

Sky sources understand that Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling is not on Manchester United’s radar and they have no plans to sign him.

Reports on Thursday claimed United had made an enquiry with their Premier League rivals over the prospect of signing the 20-year-old, but Sky believes that not to be the case.

Sterling has been linked with a move away from Anfield after reports claimed he was unwilling to sign a new contract.

The England international, who has been linked with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City, is under contract until the summer of 2017.

Sky sources also understand that Gareth Bale’s availability this summer will dictate whether United atrtempt to buy the Real Madrid winger.

Bale is not on manager Louis Van Gaal's current list of targets but it is understood if United were given the impression that the Spanish club were prepared to do business they would find the necessary funds to bring the Welshman to Old Trafford.

Raheem Sterling's agent Aidy Ward says his player wouldn't sign a new Liverpool deal if they offered him £900,000 per week.

In an interview with the London Evening Standard, agent Aidy Ward launched an astonishing attack on Liverpool and some of the club legends who have spoken out against Sterling's refusal to sign a new deal.

Sterling's representative, Aidy Ward, said his client would refuse to sign a new deal even if he was offered nearly £1 million a week.

“I don’t care about the PR of the club and the club situation. I don’t care," Ward told the Evening Standard.

“He is definitely not signing. He’s not signing for £700, £800, £900 thousand a week. He is not signing.

“My job is to make sure I do the best with them (my clients). If people say I am bad at my job, or they are badly advised it does not matter.”

After Jamie Carragher had told Sterling to "keep his mouth shut" and focus on the football, Ward revealed his thoughts on the former Liverpool favourite.

"Carragher is a knob. Everybody knows it. Any of the criticism from current pundits or ex-Liverpool players - none of them things matter to me. It is not relevant.

“I am not worried. Worried is making a decision not knowing what is going to happen. Every Premier League club will make a bid for him.”

Liverpool have so far remained insistent that their forward will not be leaving, but this further sours the relationship between club and player.

Raheem Sterling: Warned by Thierry Henry over listening to bad advice

Raheem Sterling: Warned by Thierry Henry over listening to bad advice

Sky Sports pundit Thierry Henry has warned Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling that he risks "destroying his life and career" by listening to "bad advice".

Sterling has been linked with a move away from Anfield following reports he is not willing to sign a new deal, but Henry is advising the 20-year-old to think twice before making a wrong decision.

Speaking after watching Arsenal draw 0-0 with Sunderland, Henry told Sky Sports: "I think we all know that he's been receiving some bad advice.

"You can't go out there and talk about your contract in the press. You have to respect your fans, respect the club that you play for.

"If you want to leave Liverpool or not, when you make the decision about leaving or staying, then do it. Don't discuss yourself in the paper.

"I went through the same thing. When I was young I had a problem with Real Madrid and Monaco because some guys that were around me were putting stuff in my head.

"I lost my football, mentally I wasn't there anymore, I wasn't concentrating on anything, and therefore it looked like I was going to have a good career and people were questioning me when I hadn't even started my career.

"So it's the same thing with Raheem Sterling. To an extent you can blame the agent, adviser, whatever you want to call them now but you need to be a man about it also, you need to be able to say, 'Enough, you're destroying my life, you're destroying my career.'"

But the Frenchman says he would be happy to see Sterling return to London to join his old club if he makes a decision to call time on his three-year spell at Anfield.

"He's a great product for Liverpool and he's going to be a great product for England. I would be more than happy to see him play for Arsenal but he's still a Liverpool player," he added.

"We all know he's a Londoner, and we know Arsene Wenger is interested in him."
