Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini claims he did not watch Liverpool's dramatic collapse at Crystal Palace on Monday night and insists they still have a lot of work to do to secure the Premier League title.
Liverpool were coasting at 3-0 up and chasing more goals to keep the pressure on City in the thrilling battle to finish top of the table.
They then conceded three goals in the final 11 minutes to hand City what appears to be a decisive advantage.
City now need just four points from their final two games to bring the Premier League title back to the Etihad.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers conceded the title to City in his post-match interview, saying: "I think we needed to win tonight to keep the pressure on.
"Manchester City, they have got two home games now, two tough games, but we needed to win it. I think Manchester City will go on and win their two games and they will be champions."
Pellegrini said he had not watched the match, and played down its significance: "No, I didn't (watch it).
"It is just one result and it is very difficult to win games in the Premier League. You cannot be sure you are winning until the end. Crystal Palace are a good team in a good moment.
"That's why, after the defeat at Liverpool, I said we must continue because other teams will drop points. That has happened.
"We have to win the game against Aston Villa; then at the end of the week, we will see which team has more points. We will prepare exactly the same as we have done in all the games during the year. The next game is always the most important.
"It is a difficult game because all the teams are under pressure. A lot of people said Everton were not going to win because they didn't want Liverpool to win the title but we had a very tough game against them."
Watch Manchester City take on Aston Villa live on Sky Sports 1, with coverage from 7pm on Wednesday evening.

Pepe Reina could be set to sign for Napoli on a permanent basis after the Serie A club confirmed their intentions to keep him at the Stadio San Paolo.
Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez signed Reina to Napoli on a season-long loan deal last summer when Brendan Rodgers replaced him with Simon Mignolet at Liverpool.
Despite an underwhelming league campaign, Napoli won the Coppa Italia last weekend, defeating Fiorentina 3-1 in the final.
After a season on uncertainty about his future, now Napoli Sports Director Riccardo Bigon says he hopes to sign Reina permanently from Liverpool.
“Reina is a very important player both on the field and off,” Bigon told +N tv, with quotes translated by Sky Sports.
“At the end of the season we will talk with him and Liverpool, we are interested to hold him here.
“He has been fine in Naples, he has a very close relationship with the coach (Rafa Benitez) and also his family has settled very well.”
Reina spent eight seasons at Liverpool, accumulating 395 appearances and winning the FA Cup in 2006 and League Cup in 2012.

A capitulation of monstrous proportions left Liverpool reeling as Crystal Palace came back from 3-0 down to strike a hammer blow to the Anfield club’s title hopes. Here, Jack Lusby assesses the performances of Brendan Rodgers‘ Reds.
CRYSTAL PALACE 3-3 LIVERPOOL, Selhurst Park, Monday 5th May 2014
SIMON MIGNOLET – 7 (out of 10)
Kept his side ahead with some fantastic saves, particularly in the first half; a reflex save to tip a Mile Jedinak piledriver over the bar was a highlight from what was a solid performance from the Belgian. Can’t be faulted for any of the goals.
GLEN JOHNSON – 6
Encapsulating his side’s performance, Johnson was one of Liverpool’s best players going forward as Rodgers looked to stick the knife in at Selhurst Park and ran left-back Joel Ward ragged, however unfortunately the England international played a huge part of the Reds’ defensive frailties in that last 10 minutes.
After the game, the 29-year-old took to Twitter to vent his frustrations at criticism leveled at him:
Unfortunately, another mindless defensive display belies this sentiment.
MARTIN SKRTEL – 5
Little to do in the first half, but Skrtel played a large part in Liverpool’s capitulation. Guilty of dropping way too deep into the box – as per the norm of late – and inviting pressure from the likes of Yannick Bolasie and Dwight Gayle.
MAMADOU SAKHO – 5
Dealt with defensive issues well at the start of proceedings, and as per Squawka won three out of five headed duels, but as with Skrtel was at fault as the Reds fell apart as the game drew to a close.
Should have scored in the first half, instead burying his header into the ground and over the bar.
JON FLANAGAN – 6
An unspectacular game from Liverpool’s rising star, coped well defensively and contributed with some clever overlapping runs as the Reds looked to unpick a tough Palace defence prior to the opening goal.
STEVEN GERRARD – 7
Determined to make amends for his costly slip against Chelsea the previous weekend, Gerrard was on solid form in his defensive midfield role.
Provided the assist for Joe Allen’s opener with a well-struck corner, and was involved in some intelligent build-up play as the England captain drove into more advanced positions to assert himself on proceedings.
LUCAS LEIVA – 6
Another ineffective performance from the Brazilian, who looks well out-of-sorts in his newly established advanced role in the Liverpool midfield.
Lacks the pace or tactical nous to impose himself in the attacking third, whilst his defensive abilities pail in comparison to the energetic Joe Allen.
JOE ALLEN – 7 (Man of the Match)
Liverpool’s most effective performer throughout the night, Allen looks to be growing in confidence as he is allowed a run of starts in the absence of Jordan Henderson.
The Welshman showed some inventive movement as he slipped towards the back post to take the first goal, and elsewhere performed his defensive duties adeptly, whilst also making some astute passes into the box.
As per Squawka, the 24-year-old won 63 percent of his attempted tackles, made 5 key passes and had a passing accuracy of 88 percent.
RAHEEM STERLING – 7
Indicative of his rise this season, Sterling once again looked as much a part of Liverpool’s attacking trio as the more established Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, and was a constant threat to the Palace defence.
Provided the assist as Suarez made it three on the night.
LUIS SUAREZ – 7
Out-of-sorts of late, Suarez looked near to his best against Palace as he twisted and turned his way to Julian Speroni’s goal, and was involved in some majestic attacking play; took his goal with consummate ease, taking his tally to 31 for the season.
Perhaps guilty of not tracking a rampant Bolasie back towards the Reds’ box for Palace’s second, and was a little profligate in front of goal, blazing three attempts high and wide.
DANIEL STURRIDGE – 6
As with Sterling and Suarez, was involved in some inventive build-up play, but Sturridge is clearly not quite at full fitness yet following his return from injury.
The England striker was guilty of being somewhat selfish as Liverpool looked to up the ante and dent Manchester City’s goal difference after taking the lead.
Subs
PHILLIPE COUTINHO (on for Lucas, ’78) – 6
Had little time to impose himself, and his substitution coincided miserably with Palace’s late dominance.
VICTOR MOSES (on for Sturridge, ’86) – 5
As Gary Neville attested on Monday Night Football , the wrong substitution; snatched at a golden opportunity to provide Liverpool with a late winner.

We round up the newspaper and social media reaction to Liverpool’s dramatic and stunning 3-3 draw at Crystal Palace on Monday night which left their Premier League title hopes hanging by a thread.
Luis Suarez‘s tears of devastation summed up a horrible, horrible evening at Crystal Palace on Monday night for Liverpool. Just 15 minutes minutes earlier, it was looking to be a very rosy night indeed.
To recap for those at the back, 78 minutes gone and Liverpool were cruising at 3-0 and looking good for closing down the nine goal margin in goal difference between themselves an Manchester City in the league table.
A first-half strike from Joe Allen had been later followed by early second-half goals from Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez. The difference in goal difference was now six, but the objective still to secure the win.
And then “[Damien] Delaney’s 25-yard shot was deflected high beyond Mignolet” (BBC Sport), “a blur of activity but was composed enough to cross for [Dwight] Gayle for the second” (Independent ), before “a long ball from the back was chested on by another substitute, Glenn Murray, and fell to Gayle, who left Mignolet with no chance” (Daily Mail ).
The Back Pages
Daniel Taylor of The Guardian quite poetically described the scenes at Selhurst Park as Mark Clattenburg blew the full-time whistle:
At the final whistle Steven Gerrard was on his haunches. All around him there were Liverpool players in a state of shock, some falling to the turf, others just wandering aimlessly. Luis Suárez’s shirt had been pulled over his face, trying to hide the tears, and Gerrard was pushing away the television cameras while trying to keep in his own emotions. They were a broken lot.
Henry Winter of The Telegraph says Liverpool failed when they saw the opportunity to extend their winning margin and close down the gulf in goal difference between themselves and Manchester City:
The desire to rack up the goals was understandable, and clearly ordered by Brendan Rodgers, but there was still naivety staining Liverpool’s efforts. Balance is required. The great Liverpool teams of the past had accomplished defenders, who could close out games. They have conceded seven goals in their last three games, damagingly at the business end of the season.
The Tweets
A common consensus was that Liverpool’s defence finally came unstuck. Bailed out time and time again by the prolific attack this season, the visitors caved in to be left stunned in the final 10 minutes.
There were some rather unsavoury post-match tweets from Liverpool fans directed towards Glen Johnson, which prompted an angry response from the 29-year-old:
Under-21 right-back Ryan McLaughlin, who spent the final stages of the season on-loan at Bansley as they suffered relegation from the Championship to League One, was the only other Liverpool player to tweet following the result:
Liverpool fans at Selhurst Park and on social media were awash with emotion, many conceding the title outright, as did Brendan Rodgers in his post-match interview:
But it’s not over ’til the fat lady sings. The result ultimately only changes one thing: Liverpool must hope Man City LOSE one of their two remaining games (against Aston Villa on Wednesday or West Ham on Sunday) to swing things back the Reds’ way. Two draws would do nicely too.
But for most, the dream is over. However, there is still a sense of pride and optimism from what has been a great, great season for Liverpool:
