Brendan Rodgers - first signs of discontent?

Brendan Rodgers - first signs of discontent?

A banner saying ‘Rodgers Out, Rafa In’ has been flown over Anfield ahead of their match with QPR.

A group claiming to be Liverpool fans earlier on Saturday tweeted a photograph showing the banner, which appeared to be laid out at an aircraft hanger.

The organisers call themselves the @RodgersOutClub.

They tweeted: “We are a group of lifelong Liverpool fans who have had enough of Brendan Rodgers. We will not be silenced or ignored until he is gone. Fact.”

They are also demanding the return of former boss Rafa Benitez – who often punctuated his press conferences with the word ‘fact’.

The protest appears to be the first real signs of discontent amongst supporters since Rodgers arrived at the club.

Daniel Sturridge: Single-minded approach

Daniel Sturridge: Single-minded approach

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge hopes a change of environment in the United States will help him overcome his injury problems.

The 25-year-old has made just 18 appearances in a season which has been blighted by thigh, calf and hip injuries and has flown to America to see Dr Peter Asnis, an orthopaedic surgeon connected to club owners Fenway Sports Group's other major acquisition the Boston Red Sox, in an attempt to solve his current hip problem.

The England international spent some time in Los Angeles in early December as he rehabilitated from a thigh injury and he has revealed he enjoys spending time in the USA.

"I like America, the way of thinking is different," he told the Times.

"When you're injured it's important to have a different mentality. You have to channel yourself that you're not a football player, that you could be a boxer or a tennis player or whatever it may be.

"You have to have a single-minded mentality to get back in the best shape possible. When you're injured it's important to have that type of mentality.

"That's why being out here, I'm single-minded, zoning in on what I have to do and it's great to be here.

"The physios at Liverpool are top class but it's a change of environment that worked before and I wanted to do it again and that's why it happened."

Sturridge's constant fitness problems have led some to question whether there may be a mental issue at the root of his struggles but the former Chelsea man is adamant that is not the case.

"People can think what they want to think about me but I definitely know I do not have a mental issue," he added. "I find it funny, I take it with a pinch of salt."

Asked at his press conference on Friday whether part of Sturridge's problems were mental, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers said: "I'm not sure. Daniel is like every other player - he wants to play and be available.

"It is just unfortunate for him. If you look at his career he's had little issues along the way but when we brought him here we knew we wanted to give him every chance to be one of the top goalscorers in Europe.

"We have to do everything we can to get him on the training field and into the game, hence the reason for looking into the issue."

Brendan Rodgers: Hoping to convince Raheem Sterling to sign new deal

Brendan Rodgers: Hoping to convince Raheem Sterling to sign new deal

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers hopes a heart to heart with Raheem Sterling will help convince the winger his future is at Anfield before reiterating that the England international won't be sold in the summer.

Rodgers has repeatedly stated that Sterling - who has admitted that he rejected a new #100,000 a week contract - won't be leaving Merseyside at the end of the season.

The 20-year-old has caused controversy after footage was released in April of him appearing to inhale the legal high nitrous oxide and then pass out, and images of the England international holding a shisha pipe alongside Reds team-mate Jordon Ibe subsequently emerged.

That was the second time in a matter of days that photographs of Sterling with a shisha pipe had appeared, with a Sunday newspaper also publishing pictures of him allegedly smoking from the instrument.

Rodgers says he has given advice to Sterling.

"I think he looks a lot more relaxed now than he has done for a while," he told national newspapers

"He looks comfortable in himself again. We had a couple of good meetings. He came to my house and had a good chat on a personal level as well. It's not just about the football side, it's also about his welfare because he's still young and he's been through a lot in the last couple of years. So I talked to him generically and I think he's in a good place at the moment.

"I do it with some when the moment's right. We had a good chat and it was about making himself comfortable.

"It's not just football; it's parenting as well, helping him and making sure everything is alright outside of his football. Raheem won't be going anywhere this summer, even if there's not a deal agreed.

"We've made that clear from the beginning - and the owners are very much supportive of that - and the club will meet up again with Raheem's representatives and reinforce it.

"This is the best club for him at this moment where he's got the opportunity to play and to fight and be competitive."
