Luis Suarez not interested in Real Madrid or Barcelona rumours

Liverpool forward Luis Suarez has revealed he is fully focussed on next season with Liverpool, dismissing speculation around his future.

After a stunning 2013/14 campaign with the Reds, transfer rumours linking the Uruguayan international with a move to the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona have been inevitable.

But the 27-year-old signed a new long-term contract at Anfield in December and after helping the club back into the Champions League with 31 Premier League goals, Suarez is content on Merseyside.

“I signed the contract because I love it here and I’m so happy here. If you’re not happy here you don’t sign any contract,” he told Sky Sports News.

“Liverpool’s team for me is one of the best in the world because nobody here in the dressing room thinks I am better than another and the people here inside Melwood work very well.

“I love it here and this mentality I like because maybe in some other dressing rooms I am bigger than you and another bigger, it’s difficult for the team-mates to play together on the pitch in something like that.”

Suarez has previously spoken about looking forward to experiencing the big Anfield European nights, and now he is relishing the opportunity to play in UEFA’s elite competition.

“The most important thing was to focus on the Champions League because the last four or five years Liverpool, the players, is a good moment for the comeback to a step on the Europa League to Europe’s top,” he added.

“We know how difficult the Premier League is, because you never know what they are doing and I think maybe this year (Manchester) City have more players by then and Chelsea as well, (Manchester) United.

“Is difficult but in football it’s a dream, because the stadium is unbelievable, the fans are the 12th player because they help so much.

“In my career they know what is important and myself and my family as well because they help so much.”

Earlier this week, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers also played down speculation surrounding Suarez, saying there will be no repeat of last summer’s long and dragged-out saga.

Liverpool eye Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand and Southampton’s Dejan Lovren – Reports

Liverpool could be set to bolster their defensive options with summer transfer moves for Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand and Southampton’s Dejan Lovren, according to reports on Saturday.

The Reds have also been linked with an approach for Bayern Munich midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri, as well as Lovren’s Saints teammate Adam Lallana.

Liverpool have been linked with 24-year-old Bertrand before, with Brendan Rodgers thought to have been interested in taking the left-back on-loan in January.

However, Chelsea had other ideas and he finished the season at Aston Villa.

Out of favour with Blues boss Jose Mourinho, Rodgers will be hopeful this summer he will capture the two-cap winning England international, as Andy Huter of The Guardian explains:

He [Rodgers] is also keen to sign a new left-back this summer despite Jon Flanagan’s encouraging development in the role last season and Bertrand is top of his preferred wish-list. Chelsea may be reluctant to sell the 24-year-old to Liverpool, however, in which case Rodgers may turn his attentions to Sevilla’s £15m-rated full-back Alberto Moreno.

Meanwhile with Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel both turning 30 this year, Rodgers may be looking towards bringing in a new central defender.

Croatian international Lovren has had a very solid season at St Mary’s and the 24-year-old could be seen as Mamadou Sakho‘s long-term central defensive partner.

The Mirror reports on the Lovren speculation:

Croatia international Lovren only arrived last summer from Lyon for a fee of around £8m. But has proven beyond doubt he can cope with the physical demands of English football, and is the defensive leader Liverpool have been desperately searching for.

Paul Joyce of the Daily Express explains there has been movement in the Liverpool camp regarding this summer’s transfer targets:

Rodgers held a meeting with his scouts this week to discuss targets and has made no secret that he wants a new centre-back to help eradicate the defensive shortcomings that saw Liverpool concede 50 goals last season, only three fewer than 16th-placed Hull.

Report: Liverpool approach Bayern Munich over Xherdan Shaqiri

Liverpool have made inquiries with Bayern Munich over the availability of Xherdan Shaqiri, according to reports on Saturday.

The Guardian ‘s Andy Hunter claims that “Liverpool officials have approached their Bayern counterparts” regarding the Swiss international midfielder.

It’s not the first time Shaqiri has been linked with a move to Anfield. Last July, reports originating in Spain suggested the now 22-year-old was set for talks on Merseyside.

However, the transfer didn’t come to fruition, but according to The Guardian it could be back on this summer:

The 22-year-old rose to prominence with Basel before joining Bayern for €11.6m in 2012. However, despite being a key figure in Ottmar Hitzfeld’s Switzerland squad for the World Cup, the winger has not secured a regular starting role in Germany and Liverpool are keen to offer Shaqiri a fresh start in the Premier League.

Chris Bascombe of The Telegraph also picks up on the story:

The 22-year-old midfielder has been scouted extensively by Liverpool since his Basle days and, at around £10 million, would be considerably cheaper than Lallana.

Shaqiri made 17 appearances for Bayern in the 2013/14 Bundesliga season, scoring six times.

The highly rated pacey midfielder signed for Bayern for around €11.6 million in 2012 and has two years left on his current deal.

However, despite an array of winners’ medals in his personal trophy cabinet, his lack of first-team opportunities may be frustrating the former Basel player.
