Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson believes Steven Gerrard is the best captain in football.

11 years ago today I became the captain of my boyhood team one of the proudest days of my career . It's a huge honour to captain this great club #YNWA

?????????? ?? Instagram

Gerrard marked another anniversary of wearing the armband for his boyhood club by writing on Instagram: “11 years ago today I became the captain of my boyhood team one of the proudest days of my career. It’s a huge honour to captain this great club £YNWA.”

Henderson has been identified as Gerrard’s long-term successor after being appointed vice-captain last month and he is keen to follow the 34-year-old’s example.

“Stevie’s probably not only the best captain for Liverpool and before with England, but in the game itself,” Henderson told the official Liverpool FC magazine.

“Being around him has benefited me a lot. It’s been huge. Every day I watch him.

“It’s his desire to improve. He’s been the best and most influential player here for such a long time but he still wants to get better.

“He takes training really seriously and sets the tone for how things should be. Everyone else follows. He does a lot of things that people on the outside don’t see.

“On the pitch he’s a great leader. You can see the goals, the passes and the tackles he makes; the way he inspires the team.

“But off the pitch he conducts himself brilliantly too. He’s a genuinely nice person and everybody in the squad knows they can go to him.

“The most important thing is he puts the team in front of everybody else including himself. The most important thing is the team.”

Henderson’s growing importance and maturity has not only seen him elevated to Gerrard’s deputy but has helped him become more comfortable with the expectations and associated disappointments which come with being at a club like Liverpool.

“That was one of the biggest things that I needed to come to terms with when I first came here,” he admitted. “I was 20, 21 when I joined and when you’re young, you can dwell on things quite a lot. It’s one area where I’ve improved a lot.

“At the end of the day you can’t change what’s happened. You can only influence what happens in the future. As long as you learn from mistakes, you’ll be fine.

“When we have a bad result or I have a bad performance, it isn’t nice. It hurts, it ruins your evening, but the next day you’ve got to move on, taking the negatives and the positives.”

Steven Gerrard is celebrating 11 years as captain of Liverpool - with team-mate Jordan Henderson rating him the best skipper in the business

Gerrard was made captain by Gerard Houllier ahead of the UEFA Cup clash with Olimpija Ljubljana on October 15 in 2003.

The Merseyside-born midfielder took over the armband from Sami Hyypia and led the Reds to a 3-0 victory at Anfield.

Gerrard admitted at the time that it was a dream to be made captain of the club he joined as a nine-year-old.

"I was captain of my school side and I used to go along to Anfield to watch the team," Gerrard said in 2003.

"I used to watch Barnes with the captain's armband and dream that one day it would be me captaining the team I love."

The former England captain, who has made over 450 appearances for the Reds since making his debut in 1998, feels pretty much the same today.

Gerrard posted on Instagram: "11 years ago today I became the captain of my boyhood team one of the proudest days of my career. It's a huge honour to captain this great club."

Team-mate Henderson believes Gerrard is the best captain in football.

"Stevie's probably not only the best captain for Liverpool and before with England, but in the game itself,'' Henderson told the official Liverpool FC magazine.

Northern Irish Red Conor McKillion on the pride Brendan Rodgers has restored to Liverpool.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Sunday, May 11, 2014: Liverpool's manager Brendan Rodgers after the final game of the season, a 2-1 victory over Newcastle United, during the Premiership match at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Carnlough, Northern Ireland, June 2012 – A small coastal village in Northern Ireland had just robbed the local bookies of the borough of what was reported to be in the hundreds of thousands. Men placing their savings and reportedly mortgages on the talk of the town that its now most famous son was to become the manager of Liverpool FC. Betting had opened at 12/1 so it was understandable from the word of mouth that it was a done deal.

As a Liverpool fan from Northern Ireland, we have not had an awful lot to cheer about historically. George Best and his adeptly named airport and that victory over England in 2005 are about the height of it. Last year though, that finally changed.

After the initial euphoria of the appointment came the first season and the bitter disappointment of coming 7th and missing out on Europe altogether. No-one here doubted Brendan’s ambition or drive but we all knew it would be a long road ahead. After the signings of Sturridge and Coutinho in January 2013 and their good finish to the season we went into 2013/14 hoping to have a crack at the top 4 and that was all we wanted, yearning for a return to those Champions League nights I wondered if it was ever going to come back again.

Summer 2013 didn’t inspire much signings wise but holding onto Suarez made me realise that Rodgers knows what Liverpool is all about and is embracing it every day more and more. Despite his ridiculous bite and ban, Rodgers kept the faith and boy did it do wonders.

I and a few friends watch every game in a local pub, just 14 miles up the road from where Brendan hails, after the defeats to City and Chelsea over Xmas 2013 we thought a top 4 finish would be hard to comeby. January came and went and we were back in the top 4.

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Saturday, February 8, 2014: Liverpool's manager Brendan Rodgers is all smiles as his side score the fifth against Arsenal during the Premiership match at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)Brendan Rodgers is all smiles as his side score the fifth against Arsenal. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda)

Then February 8th 2014, my 25th birthday, came and that was the day that propelled Rodgers as a decent manager to a top class manager, the annihilation of Arsenal was a starting point in the most fun I have ever had as an LFC fan.

Eleven swashbuckling wins later, highs lows, outright attacking destruction and all the heart in the world and it was upon us, the title which was a dream of dreams was now a reality. Non LFC fans (Mancs not included) were flocking to the cause as it looked like for the first time in 24 years and the first time since I was 15 months old that Liverpool Football Club would top the table in the English top flight.

I will never forgetting falling over when Coutinho scored the winner against City and my friend hugging me on the floor. That is the joy football brings to us all but it brought us more pride in the fact that it was all because of our manager, a humble man from a small village up the road, almost delivering the greatest prize in our universe.

We may not have won the title last May but the journey that Rodgers brought us on and the sheer desire he shows everyday to get this club back to the top is an immense source of pride to us all but even more to the place where he comes from. Last year was about Rodgers as much as it was the team and his management tactics and the immense performance of all the players. He is undoubtedly the man to take this club forward.

Like the banner in his home village reads “Brendan Rodgers – The Carefully Chosen One”.

I couldn’t agree more.

BBC Sport today released their annual ‘Price of Football‘ survey, finding that the average price of the cheapest tickets across English football has risen at almost twice the rate of the cost of living since 2011.

Copa90’s Eli Mengem joined the Football Supporters Federation earlier this year as they fight for a reduction in ticket prices to make football accessible for everyone. Watch the video below:

Liverpool’s cheapest season ticket is now £710, with the most expensive being £869. Liverpool’s cheapest season ticket price is the highest outside of London. The Reds also have the (joint) most expensive cup of tea on a matchday.

Tickets for the League Cup match against Swansea later this month at Anfield cost up to £59.

New figures collated by the BBC reveal that the cost of watching football in England is continuing to rise.

The average price of the cheapest match-day ticket across the top four divisions is now £21.49, an increase of 13% from 2011.

As the BBC report, the growth is considerably larger than the 6.8% rise in the cost of living over the same period.

Despite action from supporters' groups over escalating ticket prices, protests do not appear to have stemmed price hikes.

Neither has the Premier League's massive new TV deal, which was 70% higher than the last package. The increased income allowed top-flight clubs to spend a record £835m in the summer transfer window, but fans have received little benefit.

The BBC's research reveals that Arsenal sell the most expensive match-day ticket in the Premier League at £97 and the most expensive season tickets at £2,013.

However, the Premier League is not the only division where costs rapidly continue to grow. Manchester City have the cheapest season ticket in the top flight at £299, which is cheaper than 15 Championship clubs, 10 League One clubs, four in League Two and Conference side Halifax.

After contacting 207 clubs in 21 leagues across British and European football, the BBC found that the cost of enjoying the English game is considerably higher than anywhere else.

Match-day tickets for Conference clubs Bristol Rovers, Lincoln and Alfreton are priced at £18, which is around the same price to watch Real Madrid and Barcelona in La Liga.

The report reflects well on some clubs, with Charlton Athletic having the cheapest season ticket in the top four divisions at £150, and Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday selling the cheapest match-day tickets at £10.

Cost of football continues to rise

New figures collated by the BBC reveal that the cost of watching football in England is continuing to rise.

The average price of the cheapest match-day ticket across the top four divisions is now £21.49, an increase of 13% from 2011.

As the BBC report, the growth is considerably larger than the 6.8% rise in the cost of living over the same period.

Suso ! the modern 10

Do we really need him ???

Satu soalan yg ramai akan jawab ya!. Suso ditandatangani Benitez atas kapasiti Future playmaker. Tapi sayang dia tidak mendapat peluang yg dimiliki Sterling. Suso adalah playmaker modern football dengan classic no. 10 style. yg lokasi positioning dalam padang ialah di no.10.

Dalam era zaman selepas 80-an, evolusi bolasepak dunia sangat mengutamakan no.10. Maradona antara the greatest no.10. Namun ,no.10 zaman dulu adalah anchor man. Dialah yg paling banyak pakai tenaga kerana perlu sentiasa belari dan cuba melakukan gol. No.10 era klasik memiliki lesen besar utk tamak. Mereka biasanya memiliki titik graviti rendah dan lincah.

Namun era moden,no.10 turut boleh dimainkan pemain berbadan kecil dan tidak kuat fizikal . Spain antara negara yg memulakan evolusi ini. Mereka mengutamakan vision football daripada dribling no.10 . Imaginasi mereka luar biasa.

Suso memiliki ciri ciri itu. Tapi sayang, Coutinho adalah pilihan utama. Yg pasti , Suso perlu meyakinkan BR dengan vision play selain daripada kemampuan menjaringkan gol.

Do we need him?

In my opinion YES!

Tapi adakah dia sanggup bersabar setelah sekian lama?

Dan adakah BR serious menjadikan Suso sebagai no.10 setelah coutinho sendiri kerap disimpan dan bermain di CMF kerana Sterling memiliki statistik lebih baik di no.10 musim ini. Sterling adalah classic style no.10.

Ituh intipati yg akan menjadi pengaruh utama masa depan dia!.

After poor starts in both the Premier League & Champions League, Adam Bate analyses the five main reasons behind Liverpool's struggles so far.

A 3-1 win over Crystal Palace in October last year saw Liverpool go top of the Premier League after seven games of the season.

Twelve months on and the Reds are ninth in the table and struggling in Europe.

Here we look at some of the reasons why Liverpool appear to have lost their lustre...

That man Luis Suarez

In any discussion about what's changed at Anfield, it's impossible to ignore the exit of Luis Suarez. After all, the Uruguayan forward netted 31 Premier League goals in 2013/14 - no player has scored more in a 38-game season. Those goals alone accounted for 16 points but it wasn't just about the times he put the ball in the net himself. There were the 12 assists - only Steven Gerrard could beat that - and the infectious attitude that raised the standards of those around him. "We lost a world-class player," said Brendan Rodgers. That just about sums it up.

New players to integrate

Replacing the irreplaceable was never going to be straightforward and with a Champions League campaign to plan, Rodgers had to add numbers as well as quality. As a result, several new arrivals came with caveats. Lazar Markovic is a young player in a new environment and is now injured, while Mario Balotelli represents a challenge on and off the field. Rodgers might have banked on Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert hitting the ground running but injuries to the former and a surprisingly low-key start for the latter has made for a difficult transition period.

Champions League commitments

Everyone knew the Champions League challenge was on its way and it's certainly a welcome one for the five-time European champions, but that hasn't made it any easier. It's not just the travelling but the mental exertion - as shown after an unexpectedly fraught evening against Ludogorets first time out. What followed was a miserable defeat at West Ham in which the Liverpool players covered just 105.46km - a season-low so far. Rodgers fielded eight of the starting line-up from the midweek game with the injuries that limited his ability to rotate proving costly.

No time for tactical preparation

Much of the emphasis has been on the physical difficulties of playing two games per week but the increased workload has also been a tactical challenge for the Liverpool boss. The days of being able to begin serious preparation for the weekend opponents on a Tuesday have become a rarity this season. The flight back from Basel was in the early hours of Thursday morning so training ground time was at a premium ahead of the visit of West Brom. A tighter schedule to get players up to speed and focused on the next game might have caused problems.

It's all about expectations

Liverpool have six points fewer than they picked up at the same stage of last season but it's worth pointing out that the margins have been small. After all, two of those were surrendered courtesy of Phil Jagielka's bolt from the Everton blue. Liverpool also won their first three matches of last season 1-0 and produced nothing in the early stages that was as impressive as August's 3-0 dismantling of Tottenham at White Hart Lane. Of course, raising expectations at a massive club like Liverpool can be dangerous - even if there are logical reasons for what Rodgers calls "the pain".

Conclusions

Although Raheem Sterling's apparent tiredness while on England duty would appear to be a further indication of the problems facing Liverpool, Rodgers will at least be grateful that the teenager played a little over an hour of international football across the two games. With Daniel Sturridge afforded time to recover from injury and Steven Gerrard enjoying a rare break, Liverpool fans might expect to feel the benefit against QPR at the weekend. If they don't, concerns really will grow that events are conspiring to make for a difficult follow-up year after last season's near miss.
